The two leaders met for approximately 50 minutes shortly after President Biden arrived in New Delhi for the G20 summit. Their discussions covered India’s role in the G20 presidency, collaboration in nuclear energy, critical technologies like 6G and artificial intelligence, and efforts to reshape multilateral development banks fundamentally.

They also explored ways to strengthen the Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership (CGSP), emphasizing its broad scope.

Following their meeting, a joint statement was issued, highlighting advancements in defense cooperation, including the completion of the Congressional notification process on August 29. Negotiations have now begun for a commercial agreement between GE Aerospace and Hindustan Aeronautical Limited (HAL) to manufacture GE F-414 jet engines in India. President Biden welcomed India’s letter of request to procure 31 General Atomics MQ-9B remotely piloted aircraft along with associated equipment.

President Biden commended India’s leadership during its G20 presidency, demonstrating the forum’s effectiveness in achieving important outcomes. Both leaders expressed their commitment to the G20 and their confidence in the summit’s ability to advance shared objectives.

They also reiterated the significance of the Quad in supporting a free, open, inclusive, and resilient Indo-Pacific. Modi invited Biden to the next Quad Leaders’ summit scheduled to be hosted by India in 2024.

Additionally, the leaders called for continued efforts to enhance the India-US strategic partnership across various dimensions and emphasized their support for building robust global semiconductor supply chains.

They underlined the importance of shared values, including freedom, democracy, human rights, inclusion, pluralism, and equal opportunities for all citizens, which strengthen the relationship between their countries.

Following their productive meeting, Prime Minister Modi expressed his satisfaction with the discussions and highlighted the role of India-US friendship in advancing global welfare.

G20 Summit: Progress Made in Bridging Differences for Joint Declaration:

One day before the commencement of the two-day G-20 summit in New Delhi, India’s G-20 “sherpa,” Amitabh Kant, announced that the “New Delhi Declaration” joint statement or communique was nearly finalized. This indicated that intense efforts were ongoing up to the last minute to bridge disagreements, particularly on the contentious issue of Ukraine, which has created divisions within the G20 Summit, with the Western G-7 nations on one side and Russia and China on the other. The summit’s agenda includes addressing the concerns of developing nations regarding their access to global resources, and achieving consensus on this matter is anticipated.

During a well-attended media briefing at the International Media Centre near the G-20 summit venue, Bharat Mandapam, Mr. Kant stated, “We have successfully engaged with every participating country to gain their support.” He emphasized that the impact of the Ukraine conflict on global food security had been thoroughly discussed during India’s G-20 meetings, including the gathering of G-20 sherpas. This was deemed necessary even though the G-20 primarily serves as an economic forum focused on growth and development, because the conflict’s adverse effects extended to food, fuel, and fertilizer security, particularly affecting Global South countries, which are developing nations.

When queried about specific details of the joint statement and whether consensus had been reached concerning references to Ukraine, Mr. Kant noted the “high level of confidentiality” surrounding such documents. He mentioned that the text would be presented by the G-20 sherpas to their respective leaders for approval. He also emphasized that every G-20 nation possesses veto power, and discussions on this matter would occur after the conclusion of the summit.

Regarding the possibility of India issuing a separate Chair’s Summary, particularly on contentious issues like Ukraine in the absence of consensus, a practice observed in previous G-20 meetings hosted by India, Mr. Kant did not provide a direct response. He did, however, stress India’s significant impact on the G20 summit’s deliberations and outcomes, highlighting New Delhi’s emergence as a vocal advocate for the Global South. Additionally, he pointed out India’s leadership role in advancing digital infrastructure.

Tabreed Commits to Invest Rs 1,600 Crore in Telangana, Says KTR:

On Wednesday, Information Technology Minister K.T. Rama Rao held meetings with prominent business leaders in Dubai and reached agreements with Dubai-based companies to establish their business units in Telangana.

Simultaneously, the Telangana state government has joined forces with Tabreed, a prominent cooling utility company, to enhance cooling infrastructure in industrial parks, including Hyderabad Pharma City.

Over time, Tabreed is set to invest Rs 1,600 crore in the state, developing 125,000 refrigeration tons (RT) of district cooling plants and networks, with an investment of up to $200 million. This initiative will offer sustainable long-term cooling services through a utility cooling-as-a-service model for the cooling and storage needs of industrial facilities.

The government has signed an MoU with Tabreed to explore district cooling infrastructure in existing and upcoming commercial districts in Cyberabad and other mixed-use development areas. This initiative has the potential to reduce over 200 MW of peak electricity demand annually, resulting in an annual reduction of 18 million tonnes of CO2 emissions over a 30-year period. It will also help mitigate the heat island effect, further enhancing Hyderabad’s reputation as one of the best cities to live and work in Asia.

Rao expressed, “As we move toward a more sustainable future, we are pleased to collaborate with Tabreed, demonstrating our commitment to environmental stewardship by adopting innovative and actionable solutions. By prioritizing cooling through cool-roof policies and energy-efficient district cooling, we are creating a greener and healthier environment for our communities, significantly contributing to our ambitious goal of making Telangana net-zero by 2047.”

Khaled Abdulla Al Qubaisi, Tabreed’s Chairman, described the partnership with the Telangana government as a significant milestone in sustainable infrastructure development. “We are bringing our expertise in district cooling to the world’s largest net-zero pharmaceutical cluster and the highly advanced industrial zone,” he stated.

Siblings in Skating Aim for Success at Asian Games

Siblings in Skating Aim for Success at Asian Games:

Siblings Akanksha and Sanchit Yenduru, residing in the city, have been making waves in the world of skating, with one of them achieving significant recognition by winning the Oceania Artistic Skating Championship and Pacific Cup, bringing pride to the country.

Akanksha, 17 years old, and Sanchit, 13 years old, developed an interest in skating five years ago when they relocated to the city from Visakhapatnam and had their first experience with the sport at a local rink. Sanchit, who was only nine years old at the time, was particularly captivated by the extraordinary stunts performed by skaters, especially the axel jump.

Their journey began with artistic skateboarding, and since then, they have never looked back.

Artistic skating is a unique sport that combines elements from various other disciplines. It requires the flexibility of a gymnast, the speed of a sprinter, and the agility of a badminton player, as explained by Akanksha.

Their daily routine commences at 4:30 a.m. with athletic training at LB Stadium, followed by school at 8:45 a.m. Their mother, Madhuri Yenduru, mentioned, “They eat breakfast in the car while heading to school. They’ve managed to maintain a balance between their studies and sports, and I believe that’s what contributes to their overall improvement.” After school, they complete their assignments and then return to the rink or badminton court for further training.

Despite their dedication to the sport, skating is relatively less recognized, and they face several challenges.
Few people recognize or regard skating as a legitimate sport. Among those who do, the focus is often solely on speed skating, with little awareness of artistic skating games. Obtaining sponsorships is challenging, as most sponsors tend to prioritize cricketers and badminton players. Worse, we don’t have enough rinks and training facilities in the city,” noted Madhuri.

Their training is overseen by several coaches, including Amar Nag Yama, Anup Kumar Yama, Brijkishore, Satish Reddy, Rajesh, Murali, Vikranth, and Ashraf, who specialize in fitness, badminton, and skating.

The siblings hope that their recent success will inspire more individuals to take up this exciting sport. They will represent India at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China next month, with aspirations for a podium finish.

A traffic home guard who had set himself on fire a few days ago and was undergoing treatment in a private hospital has tragically passed away, as confirmed by the police on Friday.

Telangana BJP President G. Kishan Reddy expressed deep sorrow over the death, describing it as a “murder” committed by the state’s BRS government, led by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

The incident occurred when Ravinder visited the Home Guard Commandant’s office in Goshamahal, where he self-immolated. Passersby alerted the police, who promptly transferred him to a government-run hospital. He suffered severe burns, with over 50% of his body affected, and was later moved to another city hospital.

Ravinder’s wife reported that her husband had called her on Tuesday to inform her about ill-treatment by two senior police officials—an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and a constable—when he had visited the commandant’s office. She demanded action against the ASI and constable.

Police denied claims that the incident was related to a delay in Ravinder’s salary.

Tomato Prices Hit Rock Bottom, Selling at Rs. 2 Per Kilogram:

The price of tomatoes has plummeted to an alarming low of Rs. 2 per kilogram in local markets, pushing farmers in the Peapully area of Nandyal to the brink of despair. Just a few weeks ago, tomato prices were soaring at Rs. 150-200 per kilogram, but the influx of fresh crops into the main markets has led to a significant price drop.

Due to the rock-bottom prices, some farmers have resorted to dumping their Tomato produce outside the market, while others have done so on national highways, a situation reminiscent of the past. The volatile market conditions have become unbearable for them.

Now, after factoring in transportation costs, farmers are left with meager profits, potentially forcing them to abandon their crops to wither away in the fields, according to analysts.

Farmers are expressing frustration that the prices they receive barely cover the expenses associated with transportation. Distressed farmers have left tomatoes on the National Highway in Dhone, where cattle have started consuming them.

In the Pathikonda wholesale market in Kurnool, a sharp decline in Tomato prices was evident on Thursday. Approximately 300 quintals of tomatoes arrived at the wholesale market, with an average price of Rs. 6 per kilogram. However, high-quality tomatoes commanded a slightly better rate, fetching Rs. 1,200 per quintal, compared to the Rs. 2,000-2,500 per quintal price range just a week ago.

The use of multilateral conferences like this for domestic political gain and image enhancement is not unique to the BJP. In the past, leaders like Prime Minister Indira Gandhi leveraged global events to boost their domestic and international profiles.

The G-20 has evolved considerably since its establishment in 2008, expanding its agenda from macroeconomic issues to encompass trade, sustainable development, health, agriculture, energy, environment, climate change, and anti-corruption. Various thematic groups and engagement groups aim to create a “sustainable, inclusive, and equitable” world.

However, numerous geopolitical challenges complicate the G-20 summit. The absence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping underscores some of these difficulties. The Ukraine conflict has divided G-20 members, making consensus on resolutions challenging.

Furthermore, strained relations between India and China, as well as between the United States and China, add complexity to the summit. Xi Jinping’s decision to skip the G-20 could be attributed to domestic economic concerns and political pressure within China.

Additionally, the recent expansion of the BRICS group, driven by China, may signal a shift in China’s priorities away from the G20. This expansion has raised questions about India’s influence within BRICS.

In this uncertain global landscape, the G-20’s ability to reach consensus and take action on significant issues remains uncertain, despite India’s efforts to project its image and achievements on the international stage. Geopolitical factors, domestic political challenges in various countries, and economic uncertainties contribute to the uncertainty surrounding the G-20 summit’s outcome.
