Zaira Wasim deletes Twitter, Insta accounts on being trolled for quoting the Quran

0

Former Bollywood actress Zaira Wasim has deleted her Twitter and Instagram accounts after being heavily trolled for quoting from the Quran while talking about locust attacks.

“So We sent upon them the flood and locusts and lice and frogs and blood: Signs openly self-explained: but they were steeped in arrogance — a people given to sin. –Qur’an 7:133,” Zaira had tweeted.

Soon, she started receiving hateful comments from netizens who interpreted her post as a justification of the locust attacks. They felt that Zaira was suggesting that the incident is God’s way of expressing wrath.

Shortly after being deluged with such comments, Zaira Wasim deleted her Twitter and Instagram accounts.

However, a section of netizens continues to attack Zaira on her Facebook page, where she put up the same post.

Commenting on the post, a user wrote: “Lady you must have taken into account of those people of JK, Kerala and elsewhere who are also suffering from the virus. Moreover, the crops which are damaged by locust had no name as to who will consume them. In these hours of crisis please post something which is positive and reflects your education.”

Another user shared: “So according to you, with all due respect every year on the same time period, Allah send locust to India to destroy the crops of poor farmers who are not even involved in the industrial rise, who don’t use a vehicle to destroy the nature, and Allah send locust only to harm the poor farmers nd not the rich one who actually destroy nature.”

“So those farmers who lost there fields of crops and will probably go into debt and may also commit suicide, those farmers who feed the nation, who feed you and everyone, are sinners?” asked yet another user.

However, there were a few on social media who felt Zaira had done nothing wrong.

“Quoting Quranic Verse is not a crime… Why is every Indian abusing @ZairaWasimmm. She didn’t mention any particular nation or religion. I request everyone please stand with #ZairaWasim. She needs our support. #ISupportZairaWasim,” goes a tweet.

Elisabeth Moss: No life is worth a TV show

0

Actress Elisabeth Moss doesnt want to risk lives for her series “The Handmaid’s Tale”, and says no life is worth a TV show.

Back in March, it was announced that shooting for the fourth season of the hit show is being put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In an interview with show “Extra” on Thursday, Moss shared that the production team is trying to figure out a time frame to resume work, reports dailymail.co.uk.

“We were only two weeks in, so we actually have an entire season to shoot,” said Moss, who is also attached to the show as a producer.

“We want to go back to work because families have people to support and rent they need to pay, but at the same time no human’s life is worth a TV show. We’re just trying to figure out how to do it safely for everybody,” she added.

The 37-year-old is set to make her directorial debut with an episode in the new season.

On the work front, the actress will next be seen in the horror movie “Shirley”. Bev Q app gets ‘tipsy’, liquor sales in disarray in Kerala

0

The virtual queue app that the Kerala government gave the nod for online booking of tokens for getting liquor from vends, appeared to have gone haywire, with people slamming the “ineffective app” and opposition claiming foul play.

The Congress-led opposition has demanded that this “corrupt deal” of handing the app’s development to the CPIM-M’s “fellow travellers” be probed.

Speaking to the media here, Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala, who has been crying foul over handing over the app to a IT firm, said all that they had been apprehending has now come true.

“We have understood that after this app failed to deliver since it was launched on Wednesday and supplies started the next day… on Friday, also it is the same. It is mayhem, as all rules are being violated and liquor is flowing from bars with no token being asked for. I had given a complaint of this corrupt selection deal to the Vigilance. There was a review meeting and it has been decided to stick with this same company which has fumbled,” he said.

It was on Wednesday evening that state Excise Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan announced that the supplies via a virtual queue through the ‘Bev Q’ app is ready. According to the rules, all those who book their liquor through the app would get a token with which they could have their orders fulfilled from 1,168 liquor vends in the state from 9 a.m to 5 p.m everyday.

A person who has booked once from one mobile number could make his next booking from the same mobile only five days later. Liquor vends include 301 retail liquor shops belonging to the state-run Bevco and Marketfed besides 576 bars and 291 wine and beer shops.

Liquor vends opened on Thursday after a gap of 64 days when those few lucky ones who were able to download the new app and get a QR code, got their favourite brand. But there were issues, which continued on Friday also.

While some got their supply, many did not and on Friday, a few bars were seen selling liquor to those who came even without tokens, leading to huge crowds in such places.

What was even more shocking was some hotels, which have now been turned into paid quarantine centres, witnessed heavy crowding by people who came to buy their favourite stuff from the bar counters there.

Across the state, many people were angry that the app was ineffective.

“This app is humbug. It has been a miserable failure… there is some foul play,” said an angry tippler who did not get his bottle, after the state-owned liquor vend did not honour the token.

Since Wednesday, there have been numerous issues in the efficiency of this app and the social media was having a field day with heavy trolling of the system.

One reason why Chennithala has been crying foul is this is the first time in the state that liquor is being sold in bottles through the bars at the same rate compared to the rates at the state-owned liquor vends and he has alleged that there was a secret deal between the government and the bar owners.

Many had complained that even when there are state-run vends around their locality, the app directs them to the bars.

Nagari MLA Roja hit back at TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh

0

Nagari MLA and APIIC chairman Roja hit back at TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh who made critical comments against YSRCP government on its one year completition.

Reacting to Naidu and Lokesh’s comments, Roja said, “When TDP was thrown out of government by people of AP, the state’s treasury had just Rs 100 crore while Chandrababu and co made Rs 3.5 Lakh crore debts. Despite making lakhs of crore of debts, there was no sign of development.”

On the accomplishments of Jagan government, Roja said, “In just one year, YSRCP government had spent over Rs 40,000 crore on the welfare of poor and about 3.5 crore people got the benefits of the government. Not just this, another 27 lakh people are given land documents and Jagan government will support them in constructing their own homes.”

On the criticism, Roja said because there is zero corruption in the state now, Chandrababu and Lokesh are also not getting any money. “The corrupt money is not reaching father and son and that’s why we can see them losing weight,” added Roja in satire.

Further the YCP firebrand leader said very soon the state will come up with new industrial policy and on the liquor policy, Roja faulted TDP leaders of encouraging people to get used to alcohol whereas YCP is stuck to its words to ban liquor in phase wise manner.

More than 150,000 coronavirus cases across India

0

It was barely noon on Thursday when the metal doors of the mortuary at a hospital in south Delhi swung open and staff in white coveralls rolled out a stretcher. Mourning relatives looked on, as a body bag was loaded into an ambulance and taken away to a cemetery.

It was yet another casualty from the coronavirus pandemic that has killed over 4,500 people and infected more than 150,000 across India.

While infection rates from the virus have begun to fall in many countries, in India they are still rising sharply, and epidemiologists warn peak is yet to come.

Concerns are rising about how the country will handle the surge with roughly 6,000 new infections being detected daily this week.

On Thursday, Reuters was given exclusive access inside Max Smart Super Speciality Hospital – currently the largest such private COVID-19 treatment site in Delhi – where some 200 patients are being treated for the disease caused by the new coronavirus.

While the country is easing a more than two-month long nationwide lockdown that was aimed at reining in the spread of the disease, the battle against the virus rages within its strained hospital system.

“We are getting more and more people daily both in numbers and in the severity of disease,” said Arun Dewan, the director of the hospital’s critical care section. “We’re not seeing any end.”

Around him, the eerie calm within the hospital was broken only by the sound of machines beeping and patients coughing – most of whom were separated only by white curtains. Staff in heavy protective gear move around softly, speaking in murmurs.

Until a few months ago the cries of babies would often fill this section of the hospital, which was meant for neonatal care. But with the number of cases surging, Max designated the entire building for COVID-19 patients.

Now, posters of Winnie the Pooh and other cartoon characters meant to soothe children, beam down upon patients struggling to beat a deadly virus.

It is the first time in his 35-year-career that Dewan is battling a pandemic of this scale, he said, and while each day has been as struggle, he fears the worst is yet to come.

“Manpower will be the biggest challenge. We have reached the limit,” he said, adding even as the toll rises, the wait list of patients is growing fast.

But there are small victories that keep the staff going. For Steena, a nurse working in the ICU who only gave her first name, one such moment was when a 70-year-old woman brought in dire condition recovered in recent weeks.

“After seven or eight days, she was taken off a ventilator, and tested negative,” she said, sounding hopeful, before quickly turning to attend to yet another patient.

YSR Congress government had removed Nimagadda Ramesh

0

The Andhra Pradesh High Court today ordered the reinstatement of Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar as State Election Commissioner. The High Court’s order, which sets aside the appointment of retired Justice V Kanagaraju from Tamil Nadu, has been viewed as an embarrassing development for the Jagan Mohan Reddy government.

Chief Minister Jagan Reddy’s YSR Congress had also passed an ordinance amending the Panchayat Raj Act to reduce the State Election Commissioner’s (SEC) tenure from five to three years. That has also been set aside.

The YSR Congress government had removed Nimagadda Ramesh under controversial circumstances after he postponed local body elections for six weeks because of the coronavirus outbreak. It alleged that his actions were politically motivated.

On Friday a division bench of the Andhra High Court, comprising Chief Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice M Satyanaryana Murthy set aside various government orders replacing him with Justice Kanagaraju, a retired judge of the Madras High Court.

The reinstatement is with immediate effect and till the end of his term, the court said, noting the state government did not have the authority to curtail the tenure of the SEC.

Nimmagadda Ramesh resumed office as Andhra SEC this afternoon and was quoted by news agency ANI as saying: “I have resumed charge. I will discharge my duties fairly and impartially as I did in the past and as mandated”.

He also said that “in consultation with the principal stakeholders and all political parties”, electoral process for the local body polls would be resumed as soon as normalcy was restored in the state.

The elections, initially postponed till April 26, were deferred for a second time earlier this month by Justice Kanagaraj.

The court delivered the judgment on a batch of petitions, including one by Nimmagadda Ramesh that challenged the ordinance and appointment of a new SEC.

Other setbacks suffered by the Jagan Mohan Reddy government in recent days include the handing over the Dr K Sudhakar arrest case to the CBI and the setting aside of an order suspending senior IPS officer and former Intelligence chief AB Venkateswara Rao.

The YSR Congress is set to complete one year in power on Saturday; Chief Minister Jagan Reddy was sworn in on May 30, 2019.

In a statement, the state said the Chief Minister had implemented a “slew of welfare and development programmes” and fulfilled “90 per cent of its poll promises”, adding that it had also emerged as a role model in combating the novel coronavirus.

Andhra has over 3,200 COVID-19 cases and 59 deaths so far. As of May 26, there are nearly 15,000 people in quarantine across the state.

China has rejected US President Donald Trump’s offer

0

China has rejected US President Donald Trump’s offer to mediate between India and China as tensions over border disputes continue to rise. “China and India are capable of properly resolving the issues through dialogue and consultation,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said, news agency Press Trust of India reported.

In a surprise move, Mr Trump on Wednesday offered to “mediate or arbitrate” the raging border dispute between India and China, saying he was “ready, willing and able” to ease the tensions, amid the continuing standoff between the armies of the two Asian giants.

Reacting for the first time to the US President’s offer, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said the two countries did not want the “intervention” from a third party to resolve the military standoff.

“Between China and India we have existing border-related mechanisms and communication channels,” Mr Zhao told reporters. “We are capable of properly resolving the issues between us through dialogue and consultation. We do not need the intervention of the third party,” he said.

Several areas along the Line of Actual Control or LAC in Ladakh and North Sikkim have seen major military build-up by both the Indian and Chinese armies, in a clear signal of escalating tension and hardening of positions by the two sides even two weeks after they were engaged in two separate face-offs.

India has said the Chinese military was hindering normal patrolling by its troops along the LAC in Ladakh and Sikkim, and strongly refuted Beijing’s contention that the escalating tension between the two armies was triggered by trespassing of Indian forces across the Chinese side.

The Foreign Ministry has said all Indian activities were carried out on its side of the border, asserting that India has always taken a very responsible approach towards border management.

The stand-off in Eastern Ladakh is in at least five key areas where India and China have had traditional differences on the perception of the LAC in the region. The present tension between the two sides came into sharp focus when reports of skirmishes between the soldiers of both sides were reported in the Pangong Lake region on May 5 and May 6.

These skirmishes saw officers and men of the Indian Army injured after they were reportedly surrounded by Chinese soldiers who brutally assaulted them with batons. Chinese and Indian patrols frequently cross paths in this area of dispute but in most cases, soldiers of both sides retreat after performing a banner drill where each side asserts its claim to the disputed area.

“The two sides have established mechanisms both at military and diplomatic levels to resolve situations which may arise in border areas peacefully through dialogue and continue to remain engaged through these channels,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

Ben Stokes clarified that he never said India lost to England

0

All-rounder Ben Stokes clarified that he never said India lost to England deliberately during the 2019 World Cup. Strokes’ comments come after former Pakistan cricketer Sikander Bakht on Thursday claimed the all-rounder in his book has mentioned that India deliberately lost to England in World Cup last year to knock Pakistan out of the tournament. He also shared an old video of him pointing out the same on Twitter.

Taking to Twitter Stokes clarified Bakht and wrote, “You won’t find it cause I have never said it… it’s called “twisting of words” or “clickbait”.”

In the round-robin stage match against England in Birmingham, India failed to chase down the massive target of 338 and fell short of 31 runs. That was the only game that India lost in the premier tournament last year before the semifinal loss against New Zealand.

India’s chasing approach towards a massive target was criticised by many, in particular of wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni, including the fans at home.

England became the eventual champion by beating New Zealand in a dramatic final at Lord’s to lift its maiden World Cup title since the inception of the competition.

In his soon to be published book titled “On Fire”, Stokes analysed each of England’s games in the World Cup.

Many directors and producers were part of Chiru’s team

0

Since a week or so the biggies of Telugu film industry is holding talking with Telangana government on getting shoot permits and stuff. Megastar Chiranjeevi initiated this and formed a team and even took them to meet Telangana CM KCR.

Nagarjuna, directors Trivikram, Koratala Siva, producers ‘Dil’ Raju, Suresh Babu and many other directors and producers were part of Chiru’s team. However this team had the absence of heroes like Venkatesh, Nandamuri Balakrishna and a few producers and directors.

A few celebs were upset that they were not informed about TFI talks with Telangana government. They expressed their displeasure that they are part of the industry since years yet they have no clue about TFI happenings. They questioned this impartiality.

This sparked a debate and just when this is likely to become an issue, hero Nandamuri Balakrishna’s comments became a talking point.

This morning Balayya reached NTR ghat and offered tributes to his father NTR. While speaking to the media, the presspersons asked Balayaa about TFI talks and in reply he said, “I have no clue about TFI talks with Telangana government. I learned about these developments through media.”

However, Balakrishna said the film industry is suffering huge losses because of the lockdown. “As the talks were held, even I’m waiting for the Telangana government’s decision. I hope the government will issue a special G.O on shooting and I urge them to permit shoots for films which have already begun. Also I request the government to support the cine workers. I can only say one thing that hereafter shooting will take place with social distancing and it will take some time to restore normalcy,” said Balakrishna.

Here Balakrishna did not make any controversial remarks but wished for the film industry to be back to its usual business. Despite being a top hero for years, Balakrishna is not at all upset with the happenings and his comments were matured. That’s why experience matters.

Balayya stated that TDP will comeback to power

0

Actor and TDP MLA from Hindupur constituency Nandamuri Balakrishna has made sensational comments at TDP’s annual meet Mahanadu which was telecast through Zoom webinar. Speaking about AP government, Balayya expressed his doubt whether CM Jagan would serve his full term of 5 years.

Exuding over confidence, Balayya stated that TDP will comeback to power even before the next general election i.e before 2024. He indicated that YCP government which itself has 151 MLAs and support of few other MLAs from TDP and Janasena would lose its power. This is quite shocking as YCP has much more majority than the required.

Balayya further criticized Jagan’s government and said whether there is any government in Andhra Pradesh right now. He assured that TDP will come to power next. He said the real successors of legendary NTR are TDP’s party workers and hard-core fans. Balayya was all praise for Chandrababu. He said Chandrababu is fulfilling the dreams of NTR.

Breathing fire on Jagan-led AP government, Balayya said everyone was watching what his government is upto and everyone knows what this government is doing. The party (YSRCP) which came to power by seeking ‘Okka Chance” for power from people has failed to fulfill people’s wishes, said Balayya at Mahanadu.

Talking about YSRCP government, Balayya further said there is no need to fear for anyone. He asked party leaders and workers to be brave enough as they can’t be touched by ruling party.

Spat between Twitter chief Jack Dorsey and US President Donald Trump

0

Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg has indicated he would take a hands-off approach from vouching for online content amid the spat between Twitter chief Jack Dorsey and US President Donald Trump over the microblogging website fact-checking Mr Trump’s tweets.

Twitter had tagged two of Mr Trump’s tweets in which he claimed that more mail-in voting would lead to what he called a “rigged election” this November. There is no evidence that attempts are being made to rig the election, and under the tweets Twitter posted a link which read: “Get the facts about mail-in ballots.”

Mr Zuckerberg, however, indicated that Facebook – the world’s biggest social networking website – has a different policy in handling such matters.

“I just believe strongly that Facebook should not be the arbiter of truth of everything that people say online,” Mr Zuckerberg said in an interview posted online by Fox News.

“I think, in general, private companies, especially these platform companies, shouldn’t be in the position of doing that,” he said.

After Twitter’s action, Mr Trump launched a tirade – on Twitter – in which he claimed that the political right in the US is being censored. “Republicans feel that Social Media Platforms totally silence conservatives voices. We will strongly regulate, or close them down, before we can ever allow this to happen,” Mr Trump tweeted.

For years, Twitter has been accused of ignoring the US President’s violation of platform rules with his daily, often hourly barrages of personal insults and inaccurate information sent to more than 80 million followers.

Mr Dorsey today reinforced his stance on pointing out “incorrect or disputed information about elections globally”. He appealed to “leave our employees out of this” as the face-off with Mr Trump is likely to escalate.

“Fact check: there is someone ultimately accountable for our actions as a company, and that’s me. Please leave our employees out of this. We’ll continue to point out incorrect or disputed information about elections globally. And we will admit to and own any mistakes we make,” Mr Dorsey tweeted.

“This does not make us an ‘arbiter of truth.’ Our intention is to connect the dots of conflicting statements and show the information in dispute so people can judge for themselves. More transparency from us is critical so folks can clearly see the why behind our actions,” said the Twitter CEO.

0

Sandeep Lamichhane, the leg-spinner from Nepal, was recently involved in a question-answer session on his Twitter account. During the session, a fan asked Sandeep Lamichhane, “Which bowler’s action did you try to copy as a child?”. In his response, Lamichhane wrote, “Haha, I used to copy Anil Kumble in my childhood.

He is an amazing personality with a great cricketing mind”. Anil Kumble is one of the most successful spin bowlers in the history of the game. Kumble played 132 Test matches for India and scalped 619 wickets during his career. He is the highest wicket-taker in Test matches for India.

Lamichhane became the first cricketer from Nepal to earn an Indian Premier League contract in 2018. The leg-spinner was bought by the Delhi Capitals for a sum of Rs 20 lakhs, Lamichhane has played 9 matches in his IPL career so far and has scalped 13 wickets with an economy rate of 8.34.

Sandeep Lamichhane made his T20I debut against the West Indies at Lord’s in 2018. He was a part of the World XI team and got to an over during the game. However, later that year, Lamichhane went on to make his ODI debut for Nepal against the Netherlands. During the match, he managed to take a wicket in his quota of ten overs. Since then, Sandeep Lamichhane has played 10 ODIs for his country and has claimed 23 wickets with an economy rate of 4.20.

Sofia Kenin and Sloane Stephens will compete in a 2020 World Team Tennis

0

Reigning Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin and 2017 US Open winner Sloane Stephens will compete in a 2020 World Team Tennis season played at a mountain resort with spectators starting July 12.

The nine-team US circuit will stage its 45th campaign at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, from July 12-August 2, the league announced Tuesday.

With the WTA and ATP tours shut down into August due to the coronavirus pandemic, the move makes the WTT the first pro tennis circuit to resume play after the global outbreak of the deadly virus shut down the sport.

“All of us are extremely grateful to be able to play the 45th World TeamTennis season and present professional tennis to our sports-starved and tennis-starved audiences,” said WTT chief executive Carlos Silva.

“The overwhelming feedback from our players is that they want to play WTT and are comfortable in doing so in a safe environment, which is our number one priority. West Virginia has among the nation’s fewest cases of COVID-19.”

The WTT plans at least three matches a day at the resort’s 2,500-seat outdoor stadium with an indoor court to be installed as a backup option.

West Virginia health guidelines will allow up to 500 spectators, a 20% capacity, to attend the matches.

The WTT plans a 63-match regular season from July 19-30 with the semi-finals August 1 and the championship match the following day.

The WTT will follow local and state government rules and adhere to safety protocals from the Centers for Disease Control, including COVID-19 testing and screening and protective gear such as facemasks.

World number four Kenin, a 21-year-old American who captured her first Grand Slam title on February 1 at Melbourne, will play for the Philadelphia Freedoms while 37th-ranked Stephens, the 2018 French Open runner-up, will compete for the expansion Chicago Smash.

On the men’s side, Bulgaria’s 19th-ranked Grigor Dimitrov will play for the Orange County Breakers with doubles stars Bob and Mike Bryan on the Vegas Rollers.
