BSNL Reduces Validity of Rs. 118, Rs. 187, Rs. 399 Prepaid Plans

0

BSNL has revised a slew of its prepaid plans in Kerala, one of its biggest circles, and instead of increasing the prices, the telco has reduced the benefits on some prepaid plans. Some of these plans are priced at Rs. 118, Rs. 187, and Rs. 399, and for now their validity has only been reduced. BSNL’s decision comes just days after the three major telecom operators in the country announced hiked the prices of their prepaid plans.

Starting with the Rs. 118 prepaid plan in the BSNL Kerala circle, it now offers only 21 days of validity, instead of 28 days in other circles. Benefits stay the same with 250 voice minutes per day, 0.5GB high-speed data per day (speed reduced to 40kbps after FUP), free PRBT, and 100 SMS per day. Similarly, the Rs. 187 plans in Kerala has been listed with reduced validity of 24 days, instead of 28 days in other circles. The plan benefits remain unchanged with 250 minutes per day cap (Loc

al/STD/Roaming incl Mumbai & Delhi), 3GB high-speed data per day (speed reduced to 40kbps post FUP), 100 SMS per day, and free PRBT bundling.

The Rs. 153 prepaid plan that offers 1.5GB high-speed data per day also sees a reduction in validity from the earlier 28 days to 21 days. The biggest decrease in validity is seen on the Rs. 399 prepaid plan that now offers 65 days of validity only. The plan offers 80 days of validity in other circles currently, but in Kerala, the validity has been reduced by 15 days. Interestingly, BSNL has increased the data cap to 2GB per day from 1GB per day in the Kerala circle. All other benefits remain the same i.e. 100 SMS per day, 250 voice minutes, and free PRBT as well. All of these plans are posted on the Kerala website and were first reported by Telecom Talk.

Recently, BSNL was reported to have revised its low-priced Rs. 29 and Rs. 47 prepaid plans as well. The telecom operator is expected to introduce this new validity reduction strategy in other circles as well.

Chrome 79 for Android Rollout Paused After Bug Wipes User Data in Some Apps

0

Google started rolling out Chrome 79 for desktop and mobile users earlier last week. The update includes several bug fixes and phishing protections. However, due to an issue, Google had to pause the rollout after several Android apps suffered data loss, as a result of the update. Google has now halted the rollout of Chrome 79 on Android. The bug was reported by mobile app developers who claimed that it leads to the deletion of user data and resetting of their mobile apps.

In Chrome 79, Google’s developers switched the location of the Chrome directory. This is known to be the primary reason for the issue. The developers admitted their mistake, saying they forgot to move contents of WebSQL into the new directory in Chrome 79. This ensured that user data remained inaccessible. As a result, several users started leaving 1-star ratings for affected apps.

But how did a Chrome update mess around with third-party mobile apps’ user data? Some mobile apps are essentially wrappers for web pages. These mobile app developers rely on Android WebView and local storage to store user data.

After last week’s update, developers noticed that their users were losing data after upgrading to Chrome 79. Chromium’s bug tracker labels this issue as ‘catastrophe’.

For users of these apps, it looked like the app had simply reset. Users couldn’t access their data and were logged out from the apps. Google says around 50 percent of the devices have already received the Chrome 79 update. The company claims it is working on a fix that would minimize the data loss so that the update can be rolled out to everyone else.

Rishabh Pant Speaks On MS Dhoni Chants In Stadiums

0

Rishabh Pant has been mocked by fans with chants of ‘Dhoni, Dhoni’ at various stadiums but he captivated the Chennai crowd with an impressive 71-run knock in the first One-day International against the West Indies on Sunday. However, Rishabh Pant’s ODI-best knock didn’t result in India’s favor and the West Indies registered an eight-wicket win at the MA Chidambaram Stadium to take a 1-0 lead in the three-ODI series. The 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman top-scored for India after they lost Virat Kohli and KL Rahul cheaply and chants of Rishabh Pant filled the stadium following an impressive show.

After the match, Pant thanked the Chennai crowd for support and revealed how it felt when he was greeted by MS Dhoni chants at stadiums.

“Sometimes it’s important when the crowd supports you. From an individual point of view, I was trying to improve myself every day but I wasn’t getting there. I am not saying I got there, but I try to improve.” Pant said at the post-match press conference.

Pant has been heavily criticized by fans and critics alike for throwing away his wicket at various occasions.

In the three-match T20 International series against the West Indies that India won 2-1, Pant lost his wicket for a duck in the third and final match after having managed to score 33 (not out) and 18 in first two matches.

While critics didn’t shy to call Pant’s batting reckless, the young wicketkeeper-batsman said he doesn’t believe in “anything like a natural game”.

“I’ve realized after playing a fair bit at international level that unlike at amateur levels of cricket, there isn’t anything like a natural game. At the international level, you have to play according to the situation or what the team demands,” he said.

“It’s my learning curve, I’m thinking that. From the team’s point of view, whatever I can do to help my team win, to have a good score on the scoreboard, that’s what I was focussing on. In the end, I got some runs,” Pant added.

India will look to stay alive in the series with a victory in the second ODI in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.

Shimron Hetmyer Happy To Contribute To West Indies’ Win With a Ton

0

Shimron Hetmyer on Sunday stated the score of 139 means a lot to him, particularly as the West Indies finished up on the winning team upon India in the first ODI in Chennai.

Hetmyer cracked a career-best 139 while Shai Hope scored an unbeaten 102 as the West Indies romped to an eight-wicket victory against India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Hetmyer, 22, seized 106 balls for his incredible 139 which included 11 fours and seven enormous sixes. This was his fifth ODI hundred.

“I don’t know where the power is coming from. I am trying to hit as hard as I can. This hundred implies a lot to me,” Hetmyer spoke after being declared the Man of the Match at the post-match commemoration.

“The last one I had was at the start of the year and this one came at the end of the year. It is always nice to have a smile on the face after the victory. It’s an immeasurable enjoyment because the last time, I got a hundred in India, we lost the game,” he continued.

The pair of Hetmyer and Hope yielded a gigantic 218-run partnership for the second wicket to drive the Windies dismissed with expertise in the end and put Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant’s fifties in a covering.

U2 Features Smriti Irani, Gauri Lankesh As Female Icons At Mumbai Concert

0

Irish rock band U2 paid tribute to women icons of the country during their maiden performance in Mumbai, putting the spotlight on Union minister Smriti Irani, author Arundhati Roy and journalist Gauri Lankesh among others.

The Irish rockers closed ‘The Joshua Tree Tour 2019’ – their final show of the tour after Seoul, Auckland, Brisbane, and Melbourne – in honor of their 1987 album at the DY Patil Stadium on Sunday.

Frontman Bono, guitarist The Edge, drummer Larry Mullen, and bassist Adam Clayton opened the concert with their classic “Sunday Bloody Sunday” and ended with a visual montage of women icons across the world, including India.

The night also saw performance by academy award winner composer A R Rahman, who along with his children, joined U2 to sing – for the first time.

In their special segment, called ‘Herstory’, the musicians featured photos of women – projected on a giant screen at the backdrop of the stage – as the band played their track “Ultraviolet”. The names were of Women and Child Development Minister Irani, Roy, Kalpana Chawla, Karuna Nandy, Lankesh and Rana Ayyub among others. U2 also acknowledged the contribution of Greta Thunberg.

To highlight the security concern women face the world over, the band also included pictures from the recent protest march in Hyderabad after a young vet was raped and killed.

The tour celebrated U2’s fifth album, The Joshua Tree. Their playlist included songs from the seminal record including “With or Without You”, “Where The Streets Have No Name” and “Bullet The Blue Sky”. Bono, in his greeting to the audience which began with “namaste Mumbai!”, acknowledged that it took them a while to visit the country.

Ben Stokes named BBC Sports Personality of the Year

0

It was a hat trick of wins for English cricket at the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year awards on Sunday evening in Aberdeen. The World Cup-winning squad were crowned Team of the Year while Jos Buttler’s run out of Martin Guptill in the final at Lord’s was voted the Greatest Sporting Moment of the Year. And then the big one: Ben Stokes became the first cricketer to win the main Sports Personality of the Year award since Andrew Flintoff in 2005. For a sport not always front and center in the national consciousness, it was quite an evening.

The main award voted on by the public, is given to the athlete whose performances most captured the attention of that very public during the year. Previous winners have included Andy Murray, Jonny Wilkinson, and Steve Redgrave. This year, Stokes finished ahead of Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton and athlete Dina Asher-Smith, who were second and third respectively. He is just the fifth cricketer to win the award, following in the footsteps of Flintoff, Sir Ian Botham, David Steele, and Jim Laker.

It was no surprise. Stokes has had a fine year. He played a crucial innings in England’s World Cup victory at Lord’s in July, hauling them to a tie in normal time before helping them to a Super Over total that proved just out of New Zealand’s reach. Then a little over a month later, he played one of the great modern-day Test innings against Australia at Headingley, scoring an unbeaten hundred to guide England to a victory they had no right to achieve. Two transformative innings, for Stokes and the sport.

Considering the Sports Personality of the Year is essentially a popularity contest, Stokes’ victory says much about the impact he has made on the sporting landscape this summer. It has been clear for a while that he has been catapulted into a spotlight rarely occupied by cricketers in this country. People with little understanding of, or interest in, the game know of Ben Stokes. He has even appeared on breakfast TV a number of times. This award is further proof that Stokes has gone mainstream.

The nuts and bolts of his cricketing talents have obviously played a part. But this summer, Stokes did more than just prove he could bat and bowl well. England have had, and do have, many cricketers with those skills. This summer, there was something extra. Stokes dragged England to two of their most famous ever victories and in high-stakes games to boot. That’s why he has reached wider popularity. There is nothing the English public loves more than a winner.

It is also clear that Stokes has qualities that resonate with people. His never say die attitude, epitomized at both Lord’s and Headingley, for instance. It is clear that his willingness to do the hard yards connects with a sporting public that has always trusted graft and determination far more than flamboyance and genius. It is clear that people like the humbleness and work ethic. With his north-east accent and his down to earth nature, he comes across as “one of us” rather than as “one of them”.

And perhaps just as important, people like the team before self attitude that Stokes displays. “There are so many people to thank when you win something like this,” Stokes said when collecting the award. “It is an individual award but I play in a team sport and the best thing about that is you get to spend special moments with teammates, backroom staff and management. I’m up here receiving this award but I’m not just up here by myself. Without the efforts that you (the team) put in this summer, I wouldn’t be up here. Thank you so much.”

Things have certainly changed since the incident outside a Bristol nightclub in 2017 when Stokes’ world came crashing down. Vilified as yet another wayward, unprofessional sports star who had let the country down through alcohol and violence, those were dark days and months. It was a crossroads, no doubt. A career in the balance. Nobody knew then whether it would be the making of him as a cricketer or the ending of him as one. So far, it has conclusively been the former.

Although Bristol will always be a footnote in his career whether he likes it or not, Stokes has emerged from all that now. He has had plenty of support, from his teammates, his agent Neil Fairbrother, and his family. Stokes himself has taken his game to a new level over the past two years, driven on by a ferocious work ethic. And as this summer has proved, success soon makes people forgive and forget. Being named Sports Personality of the Year is the culmination of an impressive two-year turnaround.

More generally, a total of three awards was a good night for English cricket. It ensures more column inches, more coverage online, more mentions on social media for a game which needs as much exposure as it can get. After all, the fight for the attention of a new generation goes on. This summer was a step in the right direction but there is plenty more to do. At least in that fight, the ECB has a trump card in Ben Stokes, a player who has made his way into the public’s hearts. These days, not many English cricketers do that.

Pak Vs Sl : Wet outfield consumes morning session

0

What chance does this Test match have when – without rain or bad light – there’s still no play possible? The culprit this time was a wet outfield from all the overnight rain, as it wiped out the morning session on Day 3 in its entirety.

Nothing changed in the backdrop either, with gloomy skies dawning on Rawalpindi on Friday (December 13). And while there was no rain coming down, there were already significant puddles of water over the covers with the groundstaff hard at work, difficult as it was in the cold of winter. Eventually, it began paying off and the covers were starting to be peeled away before Friday’s scheduled hour-long lunch break arrived.

All in all, though, it’s quickly getting to a point where weather leaves only one possible outcome for this match. If that point hasn’t been crossed already, that is.

David Warner lashes out at Tim Southee for targetting static Joe Burns

0

Justin Langer’s men are a closed knit group, a fact that is known to one and all. The camaraderie of the team is comparable to that of New Zealand’s, the one that is rated highly. So don’t be surprised if David Warner comes to the rescue of his partner, which, in this case, was Joe Burns.

By the time Australia, who won the Toss, had played the first six overs, they looked settled in against the New Zealand attack. Debutant Lockie Ferguson leaked quite some runs in his first three overs, precisely 17. So the batsmen had enough space to breathe. But Southee, who is spearheading the attack in Boult’s absence, was seemingly frustrated as was seen in the first delivery of his fourth over.

Southee, on the other hand, collected the ball and threw it back targetting the Stumps. But whatever made it impossible meant that Burns, who got knocked on his pads, was motionless during this occurrence. As Burns held shocked, Southee went back grinning but was hindered by an enraged Warner, who was at the non-striker’s end. Southee, in his reply, acknowledged that he was pointing at the stumps. However, Warner wasn’t satisfied.

Southee glanced behind as Warner held to make another remark: “You’re supposed to be Mr. Nice guys!”

While the Ashes is the rivalry we talk about so much, the trans-Tasman heat is an unmissable event.

KL Rahul back on track to lend stability for opening slot

0

The only way for a batsman to respond to pressure and criticism is by letting his bat talk. KL Rahul is doing exactly that. With three half-centuries in his last four T20I innings (52, 62, 11 and 91), Rahul is firmly back in the reckoning when the team is trying to sort out their best combinations for next year’s T20 World Cup and also the style of play that brings out the best in their batsmen.

The third and final T20I against West Indies at Wankhede Stadium here on Wednesday could mark the beginning of a change in India’s approach in the shortest format. Rohit Sharma was at his best during his 34-ball 71, but it was Rahul who played the longest and perhaps the most important knock. Rahul matched Sharma’s belligerence with a 56-ball 91—consisting four sixes and nine fours—without taking too many risks while maintaining the tempo throughout.

For a long time, India was considered better at chasing targets. But Rahul, Sharma and Virat Kohli have changed that perception considerably this series.

“We are contemplating to operate on first innings if whenever we ought to bat (and) start the sessions,” Rahul said on Wednesday. “We start off thinking we want more than 200, or that is (how) T20 cricket (is) nowadays. No total is suitable, you perpetually seem like you are 10-15 runs low. At points we have decided to overachieve, and if you are batting at the front and establishing a mark that usually occurs, not only in T20 cricket but in any version of the game.”

Losing his Test spot to Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal would have been tough for Rahul, who once had displayed similar consistency in the opening slot with seven consecutive fifties in 2016-17. But Rahul, who has made it difficult for Shikhar Dhawan to return to the T20I side, says it is important to keep pushing on.

“I will not say I will not feel it (pressure) at all,” he said. “Certainly, passing in and out of the squad is never apparent on any athlete. You take a tiny ample chance to get adapted to the international obligation and opponents, and there is no competition (against whom) you can just drive in and procure runs,” he said.

Rahul also appeared to have modified his batting stance and the back-lift of his bat. “I do not think I have worked too much like it has not been a conscious effort. But I have seen my batting, and every batsman goes through changes. I felt that my bat-lift was coming not exactly from where I wanted it. Having time off playing cricket, I worked on it, and it is coming out well. When you score runs everything seems good isn’t it?”

Rahul stressed on the importance of having players match-ready when they are away from national duty.

“I cannot really sit outside and not prepare. All I can do is prepare and try to create a match feel for myself. I did play a lot of first-class cricket, so (there have) not (been) a lot of changes, it is still T20 cricket,” he said.

“It is so important for a batsman or a bowler (or) for anybody for that matter, to be in good rhythm, be out there in the middle, no matter how much you train or how many hours you put in the nets. While you go out in the midst it is totally distinctive. It is more essential to be in the middle and play cricket, be it any format red ball or white ball,” he said.

Amma Rajyam lo Kadapa Biddalu

Amma Rajyam lo Kadapa Biddalu is the latest movie that released yesterday in the theatres.

Amma Rajyam lo Kadapa Biddalu is the latest movie that released yesterday in the theatres. Ram Gopal Varma tried his best in trying to create some buzz around the movie but unfortunately, the film could not make much money on the first day. The mornings shows witnessed good occupancies in some centers but the bad word of mouth has resulted in the decline of the footfalls at the theatres towards the end of the day.

Ram Gopal Varma just tried to create the hype and garner the attention with the movie in which he became successful. As usual, he failed in coming up with an engaging product. Quality-wise, the film is better than his last movie Lakshmi’s NTR but content-wise, we lost him long back. The producers might not get any huge figures in terms of theatrical revenue.

Renegades sign Gleeson last-minute after Shinwari, Faheem pull out

0

Melbourne Renegades have signed uncapped English quick Richard Gleeson seven days out from their season opener against Sydney Thunder. The late signing comes after Pakistan’s Usman Shinwari and Faheem Ashraf became unavailable.

While Shinwari was picked for the Rawalpindi Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, it is understood that Ashraf has been held back to participate in domestic cricket.

Both the players had signed with the Renegades for the first half of the tournament.

Harry Gurney, who was going to replace Shinwari in the latter stages of the season, is now expected to be available for all the matches.

“It’s unfortunate to lose Shinwari and Ashraf on the eve of the season but sometimes that’s the nature of T20 cricket in a busy international schedule,” new Renegades coach Michael Klinger said in a statement. “We know things can change quickly with international players and we need to be ready to respond.”

Gleeson, 32, featured in the T10 League in the UAE recently and has a career economy rate of 7.47 with Northamptonshire and Lancashire in England’s domestic T20 competition.

“Richard bowls with genuine pace and is capable of hitting the areas that make it difficult for batsmen to score regularly,” said Klinger. “His skills in the power play and at the death have resulted in him being one of the best T20 bowlers in the UK T20 Blast in recent years.”

India’s WTC standing argues for pink-ball Test on Australia tour – CA CEO

0

India’s last visit to Australia witnessed a lot of brouhaha around scheduling. The opening Test was typically batsmen-friendly Adelaide Oval instead of Brisbane, renowned for its pace and bounce. To add to that, there was no day-night Test on the itinerary, when Australia have seriously promoted this brand of Test cricket at home over the last few years. And now when India is set to visit again in 2020, the same old debates have opened up.

Cricket Australia CEO Kevin Roberts, though, has assured that India is not opposed to playing at any venue in the country and that their solid lead at the top of the World Test Championship table might play a pivotal role in getting them to agree to play a pink-ball Test.

“I don’t see India being opposed to that (playing in Brisbane)… there is a lot to work through. But I don’t see India being opposed to any venue,” Roberts said. “Certainly what we heard speculated in the last India tour that they refused to play at the Gabba is simply not true, so we have productive discussions with them in terms of all the future tours we are playing, be it over in India or here. We commend India in being a good global citizen in growing the game all around the world…don’t think (they) get enough credit for their generosity for the game around the world. They tour more days away from home than any other country in world cricket.”

On the matter of pink-ball Tests, Virat Kohli himself recently admitted that they were hesitant to play a day-night Test last time around owing to lack of exposure. But things have changed now. Kolkata recently hosted India’s first-ever day-night Test under the leadership of new BCCI president Sourav Ganguly — someone who has publicly advocated Test cricket’s need to align itself with the demands of pink-ball Test. Roberts sees hope there.

“I believe we should be playing one pink-ball Test in the Indian series next year,” Roberts said. “India to their credit are doing very well in this World Test Championship, and it’s highly likely that they will make the final in 2021 if you look at where the standards are now and what’s coming. I suspect that will make it easier to schedule a day-night Test next season if India have relative certainty of making the WTC final, then there is less reason not to play a day-night Test and more reason to play one.

“Also with Sourav Ganguly coming into the presidency of the BCCI, he’s been very proactive in scheduling the first day-night Test in India, and we saw that was a sell-out in three days which is very different to what the previous day series have looked at in terms of ticket sales. There is an openness from India and an understanding that it is good for cricket. And they’re standing in the WTC hopefully helps things next season,” Roberts added.

The itinerary of the next summer is also somewhat complicated by Australia’s internal strife when it comes to match allotment. Roberts clarified that no Test match is locked at any venue, be it the opening summer Test in Brisbane, the Boxing Day Test at MCG or the New Year’s Test at SCG. He acknowledged the “commitments” to hold a Test each in Melbourne and Sydney but that’s how deep the commitments run.

“No specific Test anywhere around the country is locked in into the future. There are commitments to have a Test at the MCG and the SCG, that’s the depth of the commitment,” Roberts said. “What we do know is that there is a rich history around Boxing Day, we love that and respect that and we would like to see Boxing Day Test continue at the MCG. There’s an average opening-day crowd of over 70,000 at the MCG, so that’s the only venue in Australia which can accommodate that crowd so that’s a key consideration.”

Roberts said that what the players want and tradition will play a huge role in how they draw up the schedule. “The challenging thing we’ve got to work through is when there’s not as many Test matches as there are capital cities,” Roberts said. “We look at the playing side of things, it’s a really important thing, especially for the first Test where the players have a very strong preference for the first Test of any major series to be played at the Gabba.

“As you would appreciate as we travel around the country for different Test matches, there are very valid articles put up in each city, with the likes of Michael Vaughan and Shane Warne asking, how could Cricket Australia possibly schedule a first Test anywhere other than Brisbane, they would be crazy. And then understandably we come to Perth and a very good stadium that the government has invested heavily in, and from a WA perspective it’s how could we not schedule a Test match here?”

Google Chrome for Android could get screenshot editor soon

Google Chrome for Android could be getting a new feature soon. Google is currently testing a screenshot editor for Chrome on Android which it could roll out soon.

This feature was spotted by developers in a merged commit on the Chromium Gerrit. Here, the codes revealed a new flag for “Chrome Share Screenshots” and “Enables UI to edit and share screenshots. More details on the screenshot editor for Chrome include the image editor which would be the “Ink image editor library”.

As of now, only this much information is available on Chrome’s screenshot editor. There’s no screenshot or details on how this feature would work. But it would be a nifty tool for users to edit screenshots directly on Chrome without having to leave the app.

Most Android phones already come with the edit tool for photos which can be used directly after taking a screenshot. It’s interesting to see how Chrome’s screenshot editor will work. Google is expected to release it in beta first before the stable version comes out.

Google rolled out the latest version of Chrome just yesterday for all its platforms including Android. Google Chrome 79 comes with key features on private security. Some features include alerting users of using passwords that have been exposed in data breaches and real-time phishing protection. Google Chrome will also freeze tabs which are inactive for more than five minutes to free up CPU and RAM on devices.
