VR/AR: Present and Past Glorified Applications

Experimentation has been on with regard to virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) and some companies accepted them while some decided to underplay them.

There is indeed much gossip about virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). Although, they indeed are modern sophisticated technological applications and no doubt not many people are aware of the earliest iterations of VR/AR being at least half a century old (or even more).

One does need to become more aware of the history of this technology which has been rather spiced up with pop culture.

Small Steps with Early Beginnings

The first implementation of VR is indeed by some experts traced as back as 1838. Charles Wheatstone did find that the human brain makes use of 2D images which are viewed by each different eye separately, and they are merged together in order to process a 3D image. He thus invented the stereoscope, a device that that does allow people to see two side-by-side pictures through a pair of “glasses” in order to simulate a sense of depth. Although extremely crude, this technology is indeed based on the same principle that is made use of today for the popular Google Cardboard and therefore this happens to be the first VR headset prototype. Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) has indeed been given much importance.

VR/AR: Present and Past Glorified Applications

However, the first devices that could really identify as fully-developed VR headsets are found a century later, during the ’60s and ’70s. In 1968, Ivan Sutherland did create the Sword of Damocles, a head-mounted display which has been connected for the first time to a computer that could indeed generate primitive wireframe graphics rather than simply a camera or a fixed picture.

Virtual Reality in the ’80s and ’90s

The ’80s and ’90s were no doubt an opportune time for technological applications which could indeed benefit mankind in several ways. vr was no different and appeared as unusual devices. VR back then was a huge fan, and was indeed had been widely popularized by tons of movies and comics that did depict it as being the futuristic tech that allowed people to live in a “virtual world.” In other words, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) has indeed carved a niche for themselves in the modern technological applications.

Despite being a fully interactive and virtual environment, early VR devices did not gain much ground. A lot of purported “VR headsets” were in fact merely rudimentary and extremely bulky 3D units. Even the most advanced ones were rather prevented by motion blur issues and poor head tracking and also ended up causing severe physical discomfort after brief use.

The Futuristic Age of Virtual Reality

One may take note of the fact that after repeated failed attempts of the early ’90s, at the dawn of the 21st-century one did not observe in terms of VR. A notable exception was indeed interesting, but an only moderately related iteration of this technology in the form of a stereoscopic 3D mode for Google Street View that had been launched in 2010. Consumers and developers did lose interest in VR and AR technologies for a while.

The situation did change considerably. VR games were in demand. The processing power of the newest high-end graphics cards does allow gamers to rediscover the hidden potential of this technology. In a matter of few years, competitors such as the HTC Vive, Samsung Gear VR and Google Cardboard started coming up with a new type of VR. By 2016, hundreds of companies were indeed developing their own different VR products which were to be used in a lot of different fields other than just entertainment.

Big Data Is No More. Viva! Big Data Artificial Intelligence

Much hype is on about Big Data and artificial intelligence applications and the focus is definitely upon machine learning to big data. Focus is on packaged solutions.

For the last few years, there has been endless talk about big data, led by Hadoop and now Spark. The next round of hype will no doubt be about applying machine learning to big data, but that is primarily to sell AI and analytics to people.

In reality, the big data era is indeed rapidly coming to a close. In fact, one can think of big data artificial intelligence has being quite significant in applications. One has come across media reports of big data pullbacks, which tend to put on a person in the trough of disillusionment in Gartner’s famous hype cycle.

One now comes across a situation whereby the big data “ends” and the actual application of the technology does begin.

For the industry, this does imply there will be fewer “let’s roll out the platform and see what happens” projects. The decisions makers are indeed are in for a more rational approach, as they should, and even start with a business problem initially. For example, big data artificial intelligence needs to be taken note of. In fact, even the platform companies need to talk about “solutions.”

Standard solutions for actual problems

The next big step is indeed analyzing problems, finding patterns, and also indeed creating packaged solutions to those problems.

Big Data Is No More. Viva! Big Data Artificial Intelligence

One has already in fact observed seen this in the finance industry with the latest generation of distributed fraud detection packages that have been wrapped up as well as ready to go. Fraud detection software is in fact not so new, but on the other hand, distributing it at Hadoop and/or cloud scale is rather fresh. No doubt, finance is happening faster, but so is a fraud. For years, there has indeed been a missile gap — and the industry was rather losing out. Now they are rather fighting back, and Hadoop, Spark, and other modern tools are considered to be the firepower behind a new Custom-built solution thus making use of the next wave of technology that is not sufficient. Fraud detection for credit cards is in fact much different than for invoicing, insurance, or other common business applications. The next step is not to write for merely super- specialized apps for very specific industries, but rather to identify the “distributed big data patterns” in order to solve common problems that exist across lines of business.

One needs to take note of the fact that building custom solutions where everyone does manage to solve similar problems in different ways will rather persist for a while. But the future does involve efforts in finding commonality, developing patterns, and also spreading that across lines of business — that is, to make use of this new technology of massive distribution as well as cost-effective scale and apply it without blinders on. In the end, we do customize it and make use of the right terms and add the twists, but indeed designing pluggable algorithms in software that need not be written over and over again is what one is meant to gain expertise.

One has observed this before and decades ago, accounting software was considered to indeed be a hot topic. While one is able to find specialized accounting software for specific businesses, most of the big companies to make use of using a prepackaged solution that is customized to some degree or has a plug-in specific to the industry in question. It is rarely occurring that a skilled CIO or CTO is expected to write an accounting package for a line of business, apart from specific to the company.

The next major step to go ahead is focusing on “data-driven” and also making use of “machine learning” through a series of software package acquisitions and also trivial integration.

Kabir Singh Character dissection

Kabir Singh Character Dissection by Vamsi Pujit

Kabir Singh is flawed, just like you and me. But are we as honest as he is?

If Kabir likes someone, first sight or 5100th sight, he can confidently walk towards them and say it, “Yes, I like you”.

Kabir isn’t like people who sugarcoat things, like how how typically they have these steps to propose someone,
1. Become friends.
2. Become their bestfriend.
3. Propose on their birthday by kneeling down in a fancy restaurant.

Kabir is not fake. He is an emotional fool. Kabir is selfish, just like us. I loved the way Sandeep Reddy Vanga had put him into extreme crisis in the second half for the actions he had taken since the beginning of the movie. Along with his anger there’s another inherited trait Kabir has which was narrated by his grandmom in the beginning of the movie, “Kabir wants what he wants, if not he gets into a stage of traught”. The whole character movie is about that.

What does Kabir loves the most?

– Grandmother.
– Family.
– Preethi.
– Profession.
– College. (And the place it’s located)

Except Shiva, he lost everything. That is because of the actions taken by his flawed mentality. Maybe, he wouldn’t have faced all this if he tried to settle things by being that,

Kabir: “Please let me marry your daughter, uncle, I’ll fall on your feet. I’ll always take your permission to kiss your daughter, honestly we haven’t even touched before, this is the first time…”

But that’s not him, he’s not a rebel without a cause. Kabir is not a misogynist, the way he explains about how to take care of someone who’s got their chums says it all, yes, he called a girl healthy, I don’t think that’s a wrong term to use.Kabir is foolish enough to think that casual-sex could help him forget Preethi, and why would that be wrong if it’s consensual? He’s always been that way, he’s honest, not sugar-coated, and for god’s sake, in the opening scene she called him for that kitchen sex, it ain’t rape.Kabir is a passionate guy, and Preethi might’ve got influenced by that, they love, they fight, they slap, they sleep, passionately. The graph of Preethi’s character was so smoothly done, this subtle, soft person is brave inside, and that comes out by the influence of her environment, which is Kabir, she gets a voice to talk to their parents, she slaps Kabir when he shouts at her, she becomes that hopeless romantic, and finally turns into someone who is brave and opinionated, who fights for what she loves. She’s a very strong person, stronger than Kabir.Kabir is not a bad guy, he’s not a misogynist, he’s just flawed, selfish, just like us. And brutally honest, unlike most of us.
