Ashwin and KXIP to part ways amicably – Ness Wadia

0

Ness Wadia, the co-owner of IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab confirmed that KXIP and Ravichandran Ashwin have amicably decided to part ways. Having captained Kings XI in the previous two seasons, Ashwin will now be a part of a new franchise for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.

Kings XI have been negotiating with Delhi Capitals over the last few months but a few other teams are also interested in signing up the all-rounder for next season.

“I understand there is a lot of thought but we are still discussing. Ashwin is a very good and versatile player. Any side would prefer to have him. We are discussing with few different sides and as soon as we are clear, we will declare it,” Wadia quoted as saying by PTI.

“We have amicably decided that we should partition ways and now we are working to get the most suitable fit, the best solution for everyone. We are communicating with few sides to see where the best fit is and the best value comes for both him and ourselves. We want the most beneficial deal for everyone,” Wadia added.

Under Ashwin’s captaincy Kings XI failed to make it to the playoffs in the previous two editions, and with him parting ways, dashing opener KL Rahul is most likely to lead the side.

Following the appointment of Anil Kumble, Kings XI’s management had considered Ashwin’s retention, but Wadia has now said that negotiations over Ashwin trade-off have resumed. The IPL transfer window closes next week, on November 14th, and the announcement of the trade-off is likely to be made before that.

For an Afghani man who flew down to watch one-day international cricket series between Afghanistan and West Indies in Lucknow, his 8-feet height became a problem in finding accommodation.

Sher Khan, who is 8 feet and two-inch of height, toured various hotels in hunt of a place to stay but no hotel supposedly agreed to rent him a room due to his height.

Disappointed and alone in a new city, Sher Khan approached police for help which took him to a Hotel Rajdhani in Naka area where he spent Tuesday night.

Hundreds of people gathered outside the hotel to see the tall who is a resident of Kabul.

“nearly 200 people have come to see him. Sher Khan is very upset and disturbed,” hotel proprietor Ranu told the media.

Due to the people gathered outside the hotel, the police had to escort Sher Khan to Ekana Stadium where the international match is being played.

the hotel owner stated Sher Khan will be staying in the town for the next four to five days.

“There is no way Dhoni can commentate,”: Source

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is unlikely to make his commentary debut in the Day-Night Test between India and Bangladesh, sources close to the former India captain told PTI.

Host broadcaster Star Sports has sent a proposal to the BCCI on Dhoni commentating in the landmark game but the board is yet to respond.

Dhoni, who has not played for India since the World Cup semifinal in July, remains a contracted player of the BCCI.

“There is no way Dhoni can commentate,” a source close to the player told PTI when asked about the possibility of Dhoni being behind the mic during the pink ball Test from November 22-26 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

As per the existing constitution, Dhoni commentating would also amount to a conflict of interest.

Ever since that World Cup semifinal loss to New Zealand, Dhoni’s future has been a subject of intense speculation but the player himself has not spoken a word on it.

The Indian team, as mentioned by chief selector MSK Prasad, seems to have moved on with Rishabh Pant becoming the number one choice in the shorter formats.

“Time To Punish Officers”: Supreme Court On Stubble Burning

0

The Punjab government was roasted by the Supreme Court today for its inability to control stubble burning by farmers. Accusing the government of failing to provide a roadmap and leaving it all to officers, the court said, “The time has come to punish officers”. As the government’s representative, the Chief Secretary bore the wrath of the court, which squarely told him it was his failure. “Is this way? We will suspend from here. Why are you the Chief Secretary of Punjab? It is your failure,” the court said.

“People are dying. 1800 is the level of pollution. Flights are diverted. You are proud of your achievement,” said the two-judge bench comprising Justices Arun Mishra and Deepak Gupta, while hearing the plea of pollution control body Environment Pollution Control Authority or EPCA against stubble burning.

Smoke from the stubble burnt on the farmland of Punjab and Haryana is the chief component of the smog that chokes Delhi and its neighboring areas. This year, it has spread over much of north India.

Despite the court’s Monday’s order to Punjab and Haryana governments to extinguish stubble fires, a record 7000 fires were detected on Wednesday by SAFAR, the Ministry of Earth Sciences’ air quality monitor.

Pointing out that the government’s inaction is placing the onus on farmers, who are being challaned in Haryana for stubble burning, the court said no nation permits stubble burning.

“You want poor farmers to be punished. Punishment of farmers is not a solution,” the court said, accusing the officers of “sitting in ivory tower and ruling the state”.

You are responsible and the entire Punjab, Haryana, UP and Delhi are responsible for this. Nobody bothered about the poor citizens of the country… We are going to haul up entire machinery,” Justice Mishra said.

Earlier, the court had reprimanded the Attorney General as well. At the hearing attended by the Chief Secretaries of the Centre, Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana, Attorney General KK Venugopal had said 44 percent of the polluting haze that’s sweeping over north India comes from stubble burning.

The court rejected his suggestions that it is not possible to control 200,000 farmers who burn stubble. “If stubble burning is the only way then this is the end… Stubble burning has to be controlled and inability to do that will take the country back by 100 years,” the court said.

“Farmers say it will affect the livelihood and they have no other way,” he said. “If Haryana can control it (stubble burning), why not Punjab? Nobody tried organic means,” the court shot back.

When the Punjab Chief Secretary said they do not have the funds for the purchase of machinery, the court said, “You don’t have funds, you don’t have a plan. Then you don’t have the right to be the Chief Secretary”.

“All Evidence Prove Charges Against Chinmayanand, Law Student”: UP Cops

0

A special investigation team of Uttar Pradesh Police has filed charge sheets against jailed former Union Minister Chinmayanand in a rape case against a 23-year-old law student and also a separate case of extortion in which the student and her associates are under arrest for allegedly blackmailing the BJP leader.

The police, in the two charge sheets, say that all the analyzed evidence against the powerful politician and the student prove the charges against them.

“We managed to file charge sheets in less than two months. In both investigations, we questioned 105 people, recovered 20 pieces of evidence and also a lot of digital evidences and Call Data Records. We recovered 55 paper trails and are submitting case diaries and charge sheets running into 4,700 pages,” said Mr. Naveen Arora, the head of the special investigation team (SIT).

Chinmayanand has been charged under a law that deals with rape but a sub-section has been applied in his case, which deals with “misusing authority for sexual intercourse”; it appears to be a watered-down charge which carries a punishment of five to 10 years in jail and a fine. He has also been charged with stalking, criminal intimidation, and wrongful confinement.

On Tuesday, a BJP leader and his associate were booked in connection with the extortion case against Chinmayanand, who is currently in jail. The law pupil has also been imprisoned after police charged her with extortion, illegal daunting and “disappearance of proof”.

The police identified the BJP leader as DPS Rathore, the younger brother of JPS Rathore, the vice president of the party’s Uttar Pradesh unit. Police said DPS Rathore was involved in a conspiracy to blackmail Chinmayanand and was helping the law student extort money.

Police also claimed Mr. Rathore and his partners later decided to hit a separate agreement with Chinmayanand for Rs. 1.25 crore, after convincing the law student to surrender a replica of the tapes that purportedly show her being sexually assaulted.

DPS Rathore has not yet been arrested, according to police, but his name has bee included in the charge sheet in the extortion case.

The charge sheets, presented before a court in western UP’s Shajahanpur town on Wednesday afternoon, were filed about 45 days after Chinmayanand and the law student were both arrested in the matter of a few days for their role in the respective cases.

The probe team investigating the two cases says both the charge sheets run into 20 pages each and it is now up to the court to take cognizance. If it does, then a trial will start in both cases.

Kanpur is reeling under poor air quality after Diwali and the pollution also aggravated due to the burning of paddy straw. The plumes present in the air have further deteriorated the pollution in the city. Talking to ANI, one of the commuters said, “The pollution levels in the city have increased, the level has risen from 333 to 437.

Eyes are burning and there is difficulty in breathing. We have to wear an anti-pollution mask to overcome it”.
Another resident Ankit Pandey said, “I have to wear an anti-pollution mask as Air Quality Index (AQI) has crossed 400 marks and the lungs have turned to brown from red and have become difficult to breathe”. Traffic police face the brunt of the pollution to the maximum as they had to stand all day to control the traffic. While sharing their problem with ANI, they said, “Kanpur faces the heat of the pollution all year round, the AQI has become worse after Diwali. We have to perform our duty and in order to save ourselves, wear anti-pollution masks”.

Cyclone Maha In Focus, As India Take On Bangladesh

0

A young Indian side will look to save the Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Bangladesh during the second match at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Thursday with Cyclone Maha threat looming large over Rajkot. There are chances of Cyclone Maha playing a spoilsport on the match day when the two sides face off for a crucial contest.

Bangladesh came to India without the services of their premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, but they will be high on confidence after registering their first-ever T20I match victory over the hosts. Veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim led by example for Bangladesh in the first T20I and will look to carry on the fine show to help his side clinch the series. Top-order batsmen Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar will look to add more firepower to their batting while facing an inexperienced Indian bowling attack.

Shafiul Islam and Aminul Islam will be crucial for Bangladesh in the bowling department as they will be looking to provide breakthroughs at regular intervals. Bangladesh will hope their premier fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman returns to form after he went wicket-less in the New Delhi T20I.

Indian batsmen will look to up the ante in the second T20I after managing to get a changeable 148 runs on board in the first match. It will be interesting to see if stand-in captain Rohit Sharma gives Kerala wicket-keeper batsman a chance ahead of all-rounder Shivam Dube after the latter’s poor show in the last match.

Fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed leaked too many runs in the death overs of the previous match but will look to return with an improved show. Spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was the most economical in the first match but he failed to chip in with regular breakthroughs.

India will have to put their best foot forward in the second T20I to save the series after an under-par performance in the series opener.

No Truce With BJP Yet, Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut Meets Sharad Pawar Again

0

Two days to the deadline for government formation in Maharashtra, a second meeting took place between Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Wednesday. Before the meeting, the Sena leader doubled down on the party’s demand for the Chief Minister’s post and said no new option would be discussed with ally BJP.

Mr. Raut’s meeting with Sharad Pawar signaled a ramp-up in political activity as Maharashtra stares at the possibility of President’s Rule despite a clear majority for the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance.

The NCP, while insisting that it has won a mandate to sit in opposition, has been key to Sena’s attempts to display numbers in its support.

“Pawar Sahab is a big leader of the nation, of Maharashtra, of everyone. He is also concerned that a government is not forming in the state. There’s instability in the state…He showed that concern in the discussions. We have discussed a little. We’ll think about further conversations later,” Mr. Raut said.

But Sena’s flirtation with the NCP-Congress alliance has hit a wall with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi reportedly ruling out supporting the Sena in a meeting with Mr. Pawar in Delhi on Monday.

Under the circumstances, a meeting between Sonia Gandhi’s top aide Ahmed Patel and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari of the BJP drew much attention, though the Congress leader said nothing political was discussed.

Nitin Gadkari, a senior BJP leader in Maharashtra, has emerged as a possible problem-solver in the standoff.

Over the weekend, Sena leader Kishore Tiwari wrote to Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of the BJP’s ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), suggesting that Nitin Gadkari be asked to resolve the crisis.

Earlier today, the Shiv Sena made it clear it was not backing down on the “50:50 formula” which it says was discussed with the BJP for rotational chief ministership and equal distribution of ministries. The BJP has rejected any talk of Devendra Fadnavis, it’s Chief Minister, sharing the post with the Sena.

Yesterday, the party said its door was “open 24 hours” to discuss anything with the Shiv Sena but chief ministership; Devendra Fadnavis would remain Chief Minister and that was non-negotiable, said a BJP leader.

“Our alliance was formed on the basis of an agreement over the chief minister’s post. It was a one-line agreement that was decided before we fought elections together…why waste time talking of a new proposal,” Sanjay Raut questioned, speaking to reporters.

“Talks will only be on the proposal that was already discussed. If there is the President’s Rule in Maharashtra, it will be unfair to the people. We will not be responsible for President’s rule,” Mr. Raut said.

The editorial referred to Mr. Fadnavis’s trip to Delhi to meet with BJP president Amit Shah and Mr. Gadkari.

Pawan slams govt for renaming schemes after YSR

HIGHLIGHTS

launched a scathing attack on the government for christening and rechristening the government schemes after former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
Visakhapatnam: Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan launched a scathing attack on the government for christening and rechristening the government schemes after former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. At a review meeting held with the constituency leaders, the JSP chief pointed out that the schemes were not initiated from the YSRC leaders’ personal funds to name them as they wish.

Referring to the renaming of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Pratibha Puraskar Awards as YSR Vidya Puraskars, he said that one would not be surprised if the YSRCP repaints the national flag also into blue, white and green next. Addressing a huge gathering at the Green City gated community here on Tuesday, Pawan expressed ire over the cases being registered against JSP leaders and workers and demanded that they should be withdrawn otherwise he would teach the YSRCP a ‘befitting lesson’.

Referring to the attack on Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy at Visakhapatnam airport, which is now infamous as ‘Kodi Kathi’ case, Pawan demanded an interrogation into it. “Similarly, we demand a probe into the murder of former MP Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy. Why is the government silent about these two cases now?” Pawan asked. The JSP chief said that he was unaffected by the success or failure in politics. “Our party’s ideology is only to stand by the people and fight for their concerns. I don’t wish to resort to the mudslinging as it does not serve anybody’s purpose. Our appeal is to sort out the burning issues such as sand shortage and provide good governance,” he reiterated.

“There is a need to be strong and stand up as our unity is our strength. Likewise, our disunity turns into YSRCP’s strength as well. It is time to decide whether to stay united and fight together or exhibit our weakness being disunited,” Pawan appealed to people. The JSP chief mentioned that his fight for Special Category Status has distanced him from the BJP. “But despite my failure, close to 1.5 lakh people took part in the long march. It is apparent that I am there in people’s heart,” he said, adding that Gajuwaka stays close to his heart and there was no question of leaving the constituency.

Watch Panipat Official Trailer, Movie to release on Dec 6

0

The trailer of Panipat, starring Arjun Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, and Kriti Sanon, is out and it has a major Sanjay Leela Bhansali hangover. The trailer opens by establishing the great Maratha empire and Kapoor’s Sadashivrao Bhau is handed over the Peshwa sword, making him the leader.

His arch-enemy here is Sanjay Dutt’s Ahmad Shah Abdali who is known to be a ruthless killer. The trailer also introduces Kriti Sanon as the Maratha’s dutiful wife who can swing a sword if need be.

Since we have seen Ranveer Singh playing a Peshwa in Bajirao Mastani, we can’t help but compare Arjun Kapoor’s act to that flawless performance. His look is designed to fit the era, but the aura that Ranveer exuberated in Bajirao is nowhere to be seen here. Even Sanjay Dutt’s Abdali is a little reminiscent of Ranveer’s Khilji in Padmaavat. Not just the characters’ looks, even the props look like they were borrowed from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s sets, especially the headgear worn by Dutt’s Abdali.

Before the makers jump in defense that we shouldn’t be comparing two works of art, they must understand that this sort of comparison is bound to happen. There are only a handful of memorable performances that we have seen in Hindi cinema in the last few years and when two of those performances become a sort of reference point of that era for the audience, comparisons will happen. If they wish to indeed impress the audience, their end product needs to be superbly elevated.

Panipat is the story of the third battle of Panipat that was fought between the Marathas and the Afghan invaders, but it is yet to be seen if the film sticks to historical facts or wanders into fiction.

Director Ashutosh Gowariker has helmed films like Lagaan, Jodha Akbar, and Swades in the past but the wounds of What’s Your Rashee and Mohejno Daro are still fresh for those who saw these films in theaters.

Panipat an opportunity to break barriers: Kriti Sanon

Panipat also stars Mohnsih Bahl, Padmini Kolhapure, Zeenat Aman and Suhasini Mulay among other actors.

Panipat releases on December 6.

Its asset condition has become very worse, with gross non-performing assets (NPA) as a portion of total advances rising to 7.39 percent in the July-September period, from 5.01 percent in the previous quarter.

Yes Bank’s net non-performing assets (NPAs) – or bad loans – increased to 4.35 percent in the second quarter of the current financial year, from 2.91 percent in the quarter ended June 30. Yes Bank shares have witnessed heavy selling pressure so far this calendar year on account of the lender’s worsening asset quality. On October 1, Yes Bank shares hit an all-time low of Rs. 29, taking the year-to-date losses to 84 percent.

As of 12:56 pm, Yes Bank shares traded 2.8 percent higher at Rs. 67.95 apiece on the BSE, outperforming the benchmark Sensex index which was down 0.38 percent.
