Delhi’s Air Quality Sinks; Farm Waste Burning In Punjab, Haryana Blamed

A thick layer of haze lingered over the national capital on Monday morning as its air quality index deteriorated further, touching the 239-mark in several areas such as Jahagirpuri, Punjabi Bagh and Wazirpur.

According to data provided by aqicn.org, which offers real-time air quality index for more than 60 countries in the world, the pollution level in the city has plunged with the Air Quality Index (AQI) oscillating between ‘moderate’ to ‘poor’ category.

An AQI between 0-50 is considered good, 51-100 is satisfactory, 101-200 moderate, 201-300 poor, 301-400 very poor and 401-500 is marked as severe/hazardous.
On Sunday, the AQI in Anand Vihar was 327; Wazirpur 323; Vivek Vihar 317; Mundka 309; Bawana 302; and in Jahangirpuri 300, according to Central Pollution Control Board data.
On Monday morning, the AQI of Delhi-NCR areas such as Rohini (207), Dwarka (194), Pusa Road (182), Mandir Marg (179), Noida Sector 62 (217), Noida Sector 125 (202), Ghaziabad (252), Anand Vihar (218) and Patparganj (189) wavered between ‘poor’ to ‘moderate’ as reports emerged of farmers defying stubble burning ban in the neighboring states of Punjab and Haryana.

Confused by the situation, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “All the accumulations produced so far on pollution front will be canceled. Whereas we need to do a lot in Delhi and we are working, though, all governments and all companies require to operate to stop crop burning .”

On Saturday, he had told gas from crop trash burning in bordering states has begun entering Delhi and the air condition has commenced declining.

“It has been extensively stated that the smoke reaching to Delhi is due to the burning of waste in Karnal, Haryana,” he had said.

Developed by the Central Pollution Control Board, GRAP enumerates several steps to be practiced according to the hardness of pollution.

The 10-member task unit on the GRAP had on Friday operated a meeting on the agricultural waste burning occurrences arrived from Punjab and Haryana and it is expected to strike on Delhi-NCR’s air quality.

V K Soni, a superior scientist at the India Meteorological Department, who visited the meeting, stated winds are calm due to the monsoon recession, heading to low diffusion of pollutants.

Also, wind path has turned to west and north-west, he told.

Though Haryana has announced an inadequate reduction in the number of Agri waste burning events, Punjab has proclaimed that an extensive expansion of 45 percent in such events till October 11, according to results of contamination control boards of the two states.

Despite a prohibition on waste burning in Punjab and Haryana, farmers remain to resist it among a lack of financial considerations.

governments are offering 50 to 80 percent subsidy to farmers and cooperative organizations to purchase advanced farm machinery for in-situ administration of paddy straw and covering a massive experience campaign against stubble burning.

Starting October 15, stricter rules to combat air pollution will come into power in Delhi and its community as part of GRAP, which was first executed in Delhi-NCR in 2017.

These steps involve improving bus and metro services, increasing parking fees and preventing the use of diesel generator sets when the air quality changes poorly.

When the circumstances turn “critical”, GRAP confirms the conclusion of brick kilns, stone crushers and hot mix plants, a sprinkling of water, various mechanized cleaning of roads and maximizing power generation from natural gas.

Move Towards Normalcy, Says Govt as Over 40L Postpaid Phones to Become Operational in J&K from Today

With postpaid mobile telephony set to be returned in Kashmir from Monday, Jammu and Kashmir management has shown hope that it would help complete normalcy in the Valley.
regular activities have been disturbed across Kashmir from August 5, the day the Centre denied the state’s special status after opposing the Article 370 of the Constitution and providing for the restructuring of the state into two Union territories of J&K and Ladakh from October 31.

The state government declared on Saturday that nearly 40 lakh postpaid mobile phones will become operational from Monday noon. mobiles with prepaid and a few other internet services will be suspended for now.

“When the curbs on the cell phones have been taken away, we are anticipating a huge number of travelers to come there. We are also assuming that people if they are anyhow not able to do regular activities, have no more explanation not to do that,” Governor’s advisor Farooq Khan told the reporters on Sunday.

Stating that radicalization seems to have no place in Jammu and Kashmir, he said the teenagers have presented a go-by to the radicalization despite the greatest feasible efforts by Pakistan which has given no stone unturned to ruin the lovely state.

In response to another query regarding the explosion in grenade assaults by terrorists including the one at Hari Singh High Street in Srinagar on Saturday which left seven walkers injured.

“Our acquaintance (Pakistan) will proceed to try its best to disrupt the unity in Jammu and Kashmir but we are robust enough and have shown our flexibility. The state has shown its flexibility towards any such offensive actions by this neighbor,” he said.

At a separate purpose here this afternoon, the advisor told that the administration is conscious of the limitation uttered by the people over the recently set up toll plaza at Sarore on Jammu-Pathankot highway.

“Better highways, bridges, and subways are being built across the nation under public-private partnership to implement good foundation to the people. The toll plazas are being set up for time being to yield money to the organization associated in the construction work,” he said.
Khan, however, said the concerned ministry will take up the matter with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to discuss the interest of the people.

Politicians splitting over party lines have associated the current demand for stripping of the toll plaza at Sarore in Samba district. On the mistreating of a driver by a toll plaza builder and his staff, Khan said, “The law will take its course.”

“Nobody is permitted to take law into his own hands. If somebody has done this, the law is there and appropriate action will be taken against the accused,” he said.

Mary Kom Takes Home Bronze After Losing In World Boxing Championships Semis, Questions Judges’ Decision

Mary Kom took home the bronze medal at the Women’s World Boxing Championships in Russia’s Ulan-Ude after losing her semi-final bout against second seed Busenaz Cakiroglu of Turkey. The European champion Cakiroglu was judged to have won the bout 4:1 and she will take on Russia’s Liliya Aetbaeva in the final on Sunday.

India had appealed against the judges’ decision but it was turned down. As per AIBA’s instructions, an appeal would only be granted if the judge’s scores read 3:2 or 3:1 so the technical committee did not accept India’s appeal.

Mary Kom was left fuming by the decision to award the win to her opponent and immediately took to Twitter to question it.

“How and why. Let the world know how much right and wrong the decision is,” she tweeted.

Modi Begins Day 2 of Mahabalipuram Summit With A Message

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is in Mahabalipuram for an informal summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, began Day 2 of the meet with a special message — fitness and cleanliness.

Ahead of his tête-à-tête with Xi, PM Modi took to plogging — jogging while picking up litter — on a Mahabalipuram beach and called upon people to “ensure our public places are clean and tidy”.

The video on Twitter shows the prime minister picking up litter, including plastic bottles and wrappers, from the beach. He mentioned that he later handed over the ‘collection’ to Jeyaraj, a part of the hotel staff.

In his “Mann ki Baat” address, PM Modi had lauded the efforts of India’s first plogger — Ripu Daman — and acknowledged his efforts towards both Swachh Bharat and the Fit India movement.

Plogging is a fitness trend that began in Sweden in 2016. It was granted its title by Erik Ahlström, who is a ski and jogging supporter.

Modi Begins Day 2 of Mahabalipuram Summit With A Message

Earlier, PM Modi took to Twitter to post photos of his exercise and “refreshing” walk along the “scenic coast”.

PM Modi and Xi Jinping will meet for a one-on-one interaction on Saturday followed by lunch after which the Chinese president will leave for Nepal.

Belying the recent acrimony over the Kashmir issue, PM Modi and Xi held a two-and-half-hour “open and cordial” one-on-one discussion over dinner at Mahabalipuram — the bustling temple town — on Friday, vowing to jointly combat terrorism and radicalization, and signaling a recalibration of bilateral ties.

The meeting at the sumptuous Seashore temple association under a sea-facing bright shelter in the seaside town extended well beyond the programmed time as both the leaders, helped by two interpreters, touched upon a range of issues, including trade deficit, over sumptuous local delicacies, officials said.

35 per cent of children under five are stunted: Survey

A first-ever federal CNNS issued by the Union Health Ministry has reported that about 35 percent of kids in the nation under five ages are stunted, 17 percent misused and 33 percent are puny.

The survey was conducted from 2016-18 in 30 states and Union Territories with technical support from UNICEF.

A UNICEF press release said it was one of the largest micronutrient surveys conducted globally covering anthropometric assessments of 1,12,000 children from 0-19 years of age, including more than 51,000 biological samples for children’s micronutrient status and risk factors for non-communicable diseases.

“In India, 35 percent of children under five are stunted, 17 percent are wasted and 33 percent are underweight,” the release said.

The CNN survey shows there is some progress in a reduction in malnutrition, as well as an effective reach of government programs to prevent Vitamin A and iodine deficiency in children in the age group of 1-4 years.

It says that overweight and obesity increasingly begin in childhood with a growing threat of non-communicable diseases like diabetes in school-aged children and adolescents.

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said the CNNS gives the first comprehensive national set of data about child and adolescents nutrition, including the 5-14 year age group.

“This will help the government accelerate progress using evidence-based policies and programs to combat malnutrition and non-communicable diseases like diabetes in children and adolescents,” he said. The release citing the survey said that school-age children and adolescents were still at risk of malnutrition even as initiatives such as Poshan Abhiyaan 2018-22 have been launched.

“One in 4 adolescents aged 10-19 years remain thin for their age. Five percent of adolescents aged 10-19 years old were overweight or obese,” the release said.

It said another major concern for India was the high number of anemic children, adolescents, and women in the country.

The survey says that anemia affects youngest children and female adolescents the most:

Anaemia was significantly higher in children aged 1-4 years (41 percent) compared to other age groups. Anemia prevalence in female adolescents aged 10-19 (40 percent) years was two times higher than male adolescents (18 percent),” the release said.

It said that overall, 41 percent of children in 1-4 years, 24 percent of those 5-9 years and 29 percent of adolescents 10-19 years were anemic.

The release said that a growing threat of non-communicable diseases was found in school-age children with 10 percent pre-diabetic and high triglycerides.

“Four percent of adolescents had high total cholesterol and high low-density lipoprotein (LDL). Hypertension (high blood pressure) was found in 5 percent of adolescents,” it said.

Pixel 4 pre-orders on Three UK will net you a free HP Chromebook 14

Google is finally going to make the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL official at an event on October 15, and it’s high time that happens, as we’ve been flooded with a myriad of leaks left and right for the past few weeks. At this point, it seems like there’s nothing left to know about the devices, but today a Redditor spotted an advert in Nottingham, UK, that obviously went up too soon.

As you can see, if you pre-order a Pixel 4 or Pixel 4 XL from Three UK, you are going to receive a free HP Chromebook 14 laptop, which runs Google’s Chrome OS.

Depending on which specific HP Chromebook 14 model that is, that’s a £219.99 to £348 value right there. It’s interesting to see a laptop offered as a free perk when buying a smartphone, as we’re more used to accessories being bundled in this way, but Three clearly thinks it’s worth it.

Needless to say, this billboard confirms the Pixel 4’s design for the umpteenth time, after it was leaked seemingly every few days for a long while. It’s unclear if there will be such enticing promos in other markets as well, but we’re only a few days removed from the grand event now so we’ll find out soon enough.

RTC workers attempt to lay siege to MLA Gampa Govardhan house in Kamareddy

Kamareddy: RTC workers on Friday tried to lay siege the house of Kamareddy MLA Gampa Govardhan here. Earlier, along with the leaders of Telangana Teachers Union, who extended their support to the strike, the RTC staff took out a rally from bus stand to the MLA’s house, passing through several streets and they raised slogans against the State government and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.

They formed human chain in front of the bus stand and performed Bathukamma dance. Their protest continued for one hour leading to traffic jam. From there, they went to the MLA’s house as a rally and as the MLA was not there in the house, they submitted a petition to the house gate. The RTC workers criticised that the Chief Minister is conspiring to privatise the public transport system. Speaking on the occasion, the Teachers Union leaders said that the RTC workers are not alone in their strike and they will support them. They demanded the CM to respond to the RTC workers’ strike immediately and to address their legitimate demands.

V V Vinayak, Tharun Bhascker don heroes’ hat

HIGHLIGHTS

With the big launch of popular director V V Vinayak’s debut flick ‘Seenayya’ as a hero on Wednesday, the bandwagon of directors-turned-actors gets a booster shot.

With the big launch of popular director V V Vinayak’s debut flick ‘Seenayya’ as a hero on Wednesday, the bandwagon of directors-turned-actors gets a booster shot. “I didn’t believe Dil Raju when he approached me to play a hero in his film. Initially, I thought he was playing a prank on me but finally he convinced me with a good script,” said V V Vinayak at the muhurat.

V V Vinayak, Tharun Bhascker don heroes' hat

Whereas, his younger colleague Tharun Bhascker had no such doubts as he began shooting for his film ‘Meeku Matrame Cheptha’ since his friend and actor Vijay Devarkonda believed in his acting talent. “Vinayak playing a massy role, while Tharun essaying the role of a confused youngster in a new-age drama. But both have set a new trend of sorts and showed that directors can don hero roles and not just confine themselves to character roles like in the past,” says producer C Kalyan.

Earlier, Ram Gopal Varma announced that he will turning actor with his upcoming film ‘Cobra’, after rocking behind-the-camera for 28 years, “Personally, I think RGV is turning an actor to create hype around his film and not to pursue acting as such, unlike others,” says director Chandra Siddharth, who also appeared in a cameo in ‘NTR Mahanayakudu’ wherein he played legendary Dasari Narayana Rao on screen.
Actually, legendary Dasari Narayana Rao, played a protagonist in movies like ‘Mestri’ and ‘Picchodi Chethilo Raayi’ and did more than 20-odd movies. “Dasari Narayana Rao was always fascinated with acting and even bagged Nandi award for his performance in ‘Mestri’, while another legendary director K Vishwanath confined himself to dignified character roles in films like ‘Kalisundam Raa,’ ‘Narasimha Naidu’ and ‘Aadavari Matalaku…’ and others,” says director Srikanth Addala. Whereas, other young directors-turned-actors had to follow K Vishwanth and play father, brother and other character roles. For instance, Deviprasad who played dad to Sree Vishnu in ‘Needhi Naadhi Okate Zindagi,’ says, “I was interested in acting for quite some time and happened to get good roles to showcase my acting talent. Of course, I am a director, but like to explore acting as well,” he adds. Even director Bheemaneni Srinivas Rao, who played a key role in ‘Kudirithe Cuppu Coffee’ and ‘Friends Book,’ describes ‘acting as a hobby.’ Although V V Vinayak has been delivering duds like ‘Intelligent’ and lost his way, while Tharun is basking in the glory of hits like ‘Pellichoopulu’ and ‘Ee Nagaraniki Yemaiindi’ “For some directors, acting is just a break from their regular work. After taking lot of pressure as directors, few of them are turning actors since acting is much easier than direction. I would like to describe this scenario- a family man dancing in a marriage party, although he is not a professional dancer. Unlike Tamil directors like Cheran, S J Suryah and C Sundar who have become busy as actors,” concludes director B Gopal.

Bengal Police Takes To Twitter Over Murshidabad Murders As BJP Ups Attack

The police in West Bengal posted a rare status update on Twitter on Friday as a political row triggered by the horrific murder of a family of three in Murshidabad scaled up following the death of a priest in the Nadia district. Allegations of political violence have been flying in the charged build-up to the Bengal assembly polls in 2021 ever since the BJP snatched 16 seats from the Trinamool in parliamentary polls earlier this year.

two days after a 35-year-old schoolmaster, his pregnant partner and their six-year-old boy were chopped to death in their house in Murshidabad district, the body of a 42-year-old priest who had been missing since Monday, was found dead on the banks of a river in Nadia on Thursday.

Shortly after his body was recovered, BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar stated that he was a social worker and was murdered because of his political ties. The statement was supported by Union Minister Babul Supriyo.

With the BJP stepping up allegations of escalating political violence, West Bengal Police issued a clarification, saying the murders in Murshidabad had “nothing to do with politics”.

The bodies of Bandhu Prakash Pal, a 35-year-old primary school teacher, his wife, 30, and son Arya were located in different parts of their blood-splattered house in Jiaganj, approximately 210 km from Kolkata, nearby noon on the day Vijayadashami and Dussehra were being feasted. The woman was reported to be pregnant.

Babul Supriyo joined several BJP leaders to condemn the incident, who said Bandhu Pal had recently listed with the party’s ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and linked it with the priest’s death in Nadia.

“Supriyo Banerjee, a Hindu clergyman and BJP candidate from Nadia was cruelly killed. Eight personalities have now been shot in the last 4days. People of Bengal will take revenge~CHECK~ Wait&Watch,” the union minister had said.

Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar had also stepped into the row. He said Thursday evening that there must be no cover-up in the investigation into the case and it “cannot be brushed under the carpet”. He also displayed consternation over the “quietness” of the Mamata Banerjee government.

Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress answered that the Governor is “converging legal Laxman Rekha’s” and implied he must hold an eye on violations in Tripura, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh alternately.

Stalled Escalators, Empty Water Coolers as Budget Crunch Hits UN

Stalled escalators, the heating turned down, even the diplomats’ bar closing early at 5 pm: already the UN budget crunch, one of the worst in a decade, is making itself felt in a series of measures announced by the world body on Friday.

In a letter to staff, a copy of which was seen by AFP, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres laid out the looming cutbacks he said would mean fewer flights and receptions, limits on hiring, fewer documents, reports and translations and even an end to water coolers.

Guterres called the crunch the “worst cash crisis facing the United Nations in nearly a decade.” He warned the organization “runs the risk of depleting its liquidity reserves by the end of the month and defaulting on payments to staff and vendors”.

The UN announced a $1.4 billion shortfall in its operating budget this year, blaming the funding gap on around 60 states that had been late paying their dues. Of those, just seven countries made up 90 percent of the deficit: the United States, whose outstanding payments top a billion dollars, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Iran, Israel, and Venezuela.

‘The poor cop it’

Contributions to cover peacekeeping operations — which come out of separate pot — have also suffered from tardy payment. In 2019, France, for example, owes another $103 million.

For the peacekeeping budget, the US owes another $2.3 billion, according to UN documents. As a consequence, the United Nations (UN) is deferring payments to countries that have contributed troops, with some of the outstanding bills, such as Bangladesh, reaching huge sums.

“When the rich refuse to pay, it’s the poor who cop it,” said one UN official, asking not to be named.

The UN has always faced budget struggles, but these days they are getting bigger, surfacing earlier and lasting for longer, the UN said. The UN budget runs according to the calendar year, while the US fiscal year is from October 1 to September 30, and the UN hopes Congress will free up the funds by the end of the year.

The UN budgetary rules do not include any penalty or interest on late payments.

Virat Kohli Breaks Massive Don Bradman Record

Virat Kohli played the South African bowlers to all parts of Pune en route his 26th Test hundred. In the post-lunch session on Day 2 in India vs South Africa 2nd Test, Virat Kohli adopted a more attacking approach and in no time reached the 150-run mark — the ninth time he has done so whilst captaining the Indian team.

In the process, Virat Kohli broke the legendary Don Bradman‘s record of most 150-plus scores as captain.

The Indian skipper and the Australian great were tied at eight before the Pune Test but Kohli went past the former Australia skipper on Day 2 of the second Test with his ninth 150-plus score as captain.

India have dominated the second Test after Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat. Rohit Sharma, who hit two centuries in the opening Test of the three-match series, was dismissed cheaply but from thereon in, it was one-way traffic.

Mayank Agarwal, who hit a double century in the first Test, scored a hundred on Day 1 of the second Test while Cheteshwar Pujara (58) scored another gritty half-century.
Both batsmen were dismissed but Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane made sure India didn’t suffer any more setbacks on the first day.

Resuming on 273 for three, India didn’t lose even a single wicket in the first session of the second day as Kohli and Rahane made merry against a hapless South African attack.

Virat Kohli’s knock, though, wasn’t one without chances. The Indian skipper found the going a tad bit difficult against Rabada early on Day 2 but once he settled down, the picture-perfect cover drives and flicks off the pads were on full display.

Keshav Maharaj too found the edge of Kohli’s bat thrice in the span of two overs, but all three times the ball went past Faf du Plessis at first slip.

Overall, Kohli was just brilliant and peppered the boundary regularly in his superlative knock.

India finally lost a wicket on Day 2 shortly after lunch when Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed by Keshav Maharaj on 59.

Galaxy Note 10 Lite is Samsung’s new affordable Galaxy Note

We previously reported that Samsung is working on a new Galaxy Note handset. This will likely be a model that’s more affordable compared to the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+. We have received some information about this device that we would like to pass along.

Samsung appears to have decided on a name for this device. We hear that the new affordable model is going to be called the Galaxy Note 10 Lite. Since it carries the Galaxy Note 10 branding, Samsung could release it in the coming months.

Galaxy Note 10 Lite is what Samsung’s calling the SM-N770F

Samsung has already split the Galaxy Note series into two this year with the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+. There are some differences between the two models to justify the difference in price. That being said, many wouldn’t call the $949 Galaxy Note 10 affordable.

This is where a more affordable model comes in. Samsung has been developing one with the model number SM-N770F. We also know that it will be headed to Europe in at least two color options, black and red. We have now been told that this device is going to launch as the Galaxy Note 10 Lite.

As for what will make it an affordable Galaxy Note remains a mystery for now. Just how much can the company take away from the device to bring down the price and yet not dilute the Galaxy Note brand significantly remains to be seen. It would also need to offer S Pen support otherwise the device will go against the ethos of this series.

It would make sense for this device not to be branded the Galaxy Note 10e. The Galaxy S10e shared most of its specs with the Galaxy S10. That may not be the case for this device. Details about the specs and features of the Galaxy Note 10 Lite are limited at this point in time. We expect to hear more as the development progresses. Do keep in mind that this is all speculative at this point.

4.25 Crores Cash Found In Raids On Karnataka Congress Leader: Officials

Over Rs. 4 crore in cash was found by Income Tax officials during raids at multiple places linked to former Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara and his associates since yesterday, officials said this morning.

Rs. 4.25 crore in cash has been found till now from various premises that were searched, officials said.

Around 30 places linked in Bengaluru and Tumakuru linked to the senior Congress leader were searched. The tax department is continuing with the searches this morning as well. The raids are in connection with an alleged multi-crore tax evasion case linked to medical entrance exams, officials said.

In organized raids, over 300 Income Tax officials explored premises connected to two leading Congress leaders in Karnataka – Mr. Parameshwara and former MP RL Jalappa.

4.25 Crores Cash Found In Raids On Karnataka Congress Leader: Officials

The raids are being conducted based on a tip-off that medical seats were being sold at the rate of Rs. 50 lakh to Rs. 60 lakh for undeserving candidates, sources in the Income Tax department said. The massive search, they said, has resulted in the seizure of cash and incriminating documents proving the alleged irregularities in medical admissions.

The house of Mr Parameshwara’s brother’s son, Anand, and Siddhartha Medical College are being searched by the tax department today. The college is run by a trust related to the former minister.

While Mr Parameshwara’s family runs the Siddhartha Group of Institutions, which was established by his father HM Gangadharaiah 58 years ago, Congress leader Mr Jalappa’s son Rajendra runs the RL Jalappa Institute of Technology in Doddaballapura and Kolar.

On Thursday, Mr Parameshwara had said he was not aware of the searches and that he is ready to “rectify” if there is an error from his point. “I am not conscious of the raid. I don’t know where they are doing it. Let them search, I have no issue. If there is any error from our foe, we will revise it,” he had told news bureau.

“These raids are politically motivated. The Election Commission has indicated the calendar of events for the by-election to the Karnataka assembly, ” Mr Jalappa had told news agency.
G Parameshwara was the Deputy Chief Minister in HD Kumaraswamy’s JD(S)-Congress coalition government that collapsed in July after losing the trust vote in the assembly.

OnePlus 6T, OnePlus 6 to Get Android 10-Based OxygenOS This Month

OnePlus 6T and OnePlus 6 users are set to receive OxygenOS 10 based on Android 10 as early as this month, OnePlus announced while launching the OnePlus 7T series at an event in London on Thursday. Alongside the OnePlus 6 models, the Chinese company is in plans to bring Android 10 along with OxygenOS 10 to the OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5.

OnePlus at the launch event also announced an Instant Translation feature that is designed to offer real-time translations on video calls. The feature appears to be in the pipeline at the current stage, though the company promised to announce further details soon.

At the launch event, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei revealed that the OnePlus 6T ₹ 29,999 and OnePlus 6 ₹ 39,999 would receive the OxygenOS 10 update based on Android 10 later this month, whereas the OnePlus 5T ₹ 29,499 and OnePlus 5 would get the latest experience in the second quarter next year.

OnePlus has for the past few years maintained its promise for Android version updates for two years, and Android security updates for three years. This latest announcement matches that timeline, with the OnePlus 5 duo having been released in 2017 (and Android 10 having been released in 2019).

“Android updates are the key to our users, and, therefore, [they are] also key to us,” Pei said while addressing the audience at the OnePlus 7T series launch in London.

“At OnePlus, we want to make quality products that stand the test of time and are committed to updating our older devices so you can enjoy them for longer,” he added.

Elaborating on the roadmap, OnePlus in a forum post mentioned that the Oxygen 10.0 Open Beta based on Android 10 will be released for the OnePlus 6T and OnePlus 6 this month, while its official release is scheduled for next month.

“customers who bought OnePlus devices from our associates, including T-Mobile, Sprint and EE. We will work intimately with our associates to pass the best Android 10 software experience for your device,” the company added in the forum post.

OnePlus is indeed one of the few Android smartphone makers to provide the latest updates soon after their release. However, the Shenzhen-based company doesn’t provide the newest Android versions to its entire portfolio.

In the case of Android 10, OnePlus hasn’t revealed any of its plans to bring the latest update to its dated models such as the OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 3, and OnePlus 2. There may be some hardware limitations that are restricting the company to provide the new update.

Having said that, OnePlus released Android 10 with OxygenOS 10 on top for the OnePlus 7 ₹ 29,999 and OnePlus 7 Pro ₹ 44,999 soon for the formal release of the new Android version last month. The company is also offering Android 10 out-of-the-box on the newly launched OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro.
