Senior Advocate Rajeev Dhavan ‘Dismissed ‘ by Muslim Parties from Ayodhya Case

0

After the Sunni Waqf Board’s decision not to challenge the Ayodhya verdict, more cracks seem to have appeared among the Muslim parties even as they gear up to seek review of the November 9 judgment.
On Tuesday morning, senior advocate Rajeev Dhavan put out a Facebook post saying he has been sacked by the Muslim side in one of the cases and he was not associated with the filing of the first review petition a day ago.

“Just been discharged from the Babri lawsuit by AOR Ejaz Maqbool who was stewarding the Jamiat. Have granted a formal letter admitting the ‘sacking’ outwardly demur. No longer associated in the study or the case,” explained his social media post.

Maqbool is the advocate on record (AoR) for the review petition that was filed on Monday. This petition has been backed by the Jamiat Ulema I Hind and filed through one of the individual plaintiffs in the case.
Maqbool, when contacted telephonically, claimed that Dhavan was at his dentist’s clinic on Monday and therefore, he could not be consulted before the filing of the review petition.

When contacted, Arshad Madani, president of the Jamiat, maintained that Rajeev Dhavan was not well and hence the petition was filed without his approval. But in his second Facebook post on Tuesday morning, Dhavan snubbed these contentions.

He wrote: “I have been informed that Mr. Madani has intimated that I was dismissed from the case because I was ailing. This is complete rubbish. He has the power to command his lawyer AOR Ejaz Maqbool to dismiss me which he did on directions. But the idea being hovered is hateful and incorrect.”
Other advocates on record associated with the Muslim side in the case expressed their disappointment over the latest development.

One of them told the news agency that Dhavan was hurt after the first review petition was filed without waiting for his approval.

“He is a man of great stature and he is now hurt by the manner in which the first petition was moved. There are still four more petitions which will be filed with the support of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board. We will try to persuade Dhavan to come back in the case for us,” the lawyer said.

The latest fissure on the Muslim side has surfaced days after the Sunni Waqf Board said it will not be filing the review petition to challenge the Ayodhya verdict that gave the entire disputed land to the Hindus.

The Waqf Board said it is yet to decide on accepting the alternate five acres of land which has to be given to the Muslims in Ayodhya by the Centre or Uttar Pradesh government.

While there were reports that the Pink actress will be playing the role of the cricketer in the latter’s biopic, Taapsee never confirmed the same. Today, on Mithali Raj’s birthday Taapsee took to social media to announce the news.

Taapsee Pannu shared several pictures of herself with the skipper in which Mithali is seen cutting a cake. Along with the pictures, Taapsee wrote, “Happy Happy Birthday Captain @mithaliraj! Last year, when the news of Taapsee Pannu being signed for the said biopic broke, PTI asked the actress about it. To which, the Badla actress had replied, “The script is not in place so it’s too early to talk about it. Right now, they are gathering stock and the story has not been addressed yet. If they offer me, I will be very happy. I want to do a sports biopic.”

It seems Taapsee’s wish has been granted as she will be seen in several sports biopics, last being Saand Ki Aankh.

Redmi K30 Poster Shows Quad Cameras With Ring Design and 5G SoC

0

Xiaomi has finally released an official teaser poster of the upcoming Redmi K30 that shows the phone’s design from the back. The Chinese company has gone for a big design change from the Redmi K20 to the Redmi K30, and the same is evident from the comparatively minimalist finish on the rear panel, a stark contrast from the flashy flame gradient seen on its predecessor. The official Redmi K30 poster shows quad rear cameras in a vertical layout, while the camera module is surrounded by a circular ring with a different surface finish than the rest of the rear panel. Separately, it has been confirmed that the Redmi K30 will be powered by a Qualcomm SoC.

The official Redmi Weibo account shared the aforementioned Redmi K30 poster where the phone is shown sporting a light purple shade and what appears to be a matte finish. The vertical quad rear camera module is surrounded by a ring that has a glossy finish and what looks like a subtle concentric texture with some branding along the periphery. But this is not an entirely new design, as we have earlier seen the Huawei Mate 30 Pro rocking a similar circular ring pattern around its camera module in a variety of colors.

The dual-LED flash module sits below the camera and there is also a prominent 5G branding underneath it. To recall, Xiaomi has already confirmed that the Redmi K30 will offer dual-mode 5G (SA + NSA) support. In the comments section of another post by the Redmi Weibo account, someone has shared a different official poster of the Redmi K30 that shows the brand ambassador holding a different variant of the phone flaunting a pink gradient paint job with a subtle purple finish alongside the lower back.

Moreover, Redmi brand’s General Manager, Lu Weibing, has revealed via a Weibo post that the Redmi K30 will be powered by Qualcomm’s SoC. While he did not reveal the name of the 5G-ready Qualcomm SoC, we expect it to be one among the upcoming Snapdragon 7xx or the Snapdragon 6xx series chipsets that Qualcomm has teased and will officially unveil at the Snapdragon Summit this week. Weibing further added that the Redmi K30 will be a true 5G pioneer in the domain and will set a new benchmark for the user experience.

If these leaked images are legitimate, then the phone seen in Xiaomi’s official teaser might be Redmi K30 5G or even the Redmi K30 Pro, while the leaked live images might be depicting the standard Redmi K30 that only supports 4G connectivity.

“I Found Vikram Lander!”: Meet Chennai Engineer, 33, Who Alerted NASA

0

A Chennai-based engineer has been credited by NASA for alerting them about the presence of the debris of the lander of Chandrayaan 2, India’s ambitious moon mission. Shanmuga Subramanian, 33, found the debris from the Vikram moon lander that scientists had been looking for and helped guide them to the spot where it had crashed.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) had lost contact with the Vikram lander following its launch from Chandraayan 2 moon orbiter on September 6 when it tried to make soft-landing near the moon’s south pole.

The US space agency made the announcement today, releasing an image taken by its Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) that showed the site of the spacecraft’s impact (September 6 in India and September 7 in the US).

“The wreck first determined by Shanmuga is approximately 750 meters northwest of the foremost crash position and was a unique bright pixel description in that first mosaic,” NASA said in a statement.

The lander had lost contact shortly before the scheduled attempt to soft-land on the moon on September 7. Days after the failed landing, ISRO said it had located the lander but hadn’t been able to establish communication.

"I Found Vikram Lander!": Meet Chennai Engineer, 33, Who Alerted NASA

NASA said it released a mosaic image of the site on September 26 (but taken on September 17), inviting the public to compare it with images of the same area before the crash to find signs of the lander.
Mr. Subramaniam was the first person to come up with identification. He said NASA’s inability to find the lander on its own had sparked his interest.

“I had a side-by-side comparison of those two images on two of my laptops… on one side there was the old image, and another side there was the new image published by NASA,” he reported news bureau.
“It was quite hard, but (I) spent some effort,” said the self-professed space nerd, finally announcing his discovery on Twitter on October 3.

NASA then performed additional searches in the area and officially announced the finding almost two months later.

“I worked hard tracking the intended path of Vikram lander,” Mr. Subramanian told the news agency. “I am excited. It was a lot of hard work. I’ve always had a passion for space science. I would never miss a launch,” the space enthusiast said.

A top NASA scientist said Mr. Subramanian’s work was completely independent. “The story of this amazing individual (who) found it, helped us find it, is awesome,” NASA’s Noah Petro told news agency IANS.

He said that Subramanian “is independent of the LRO, totally independent of the Chandraayan 2 team, just someone who is very interested in the Chandraayan 2 mission (who) used our data and identified a spot where there was a change that we had not identified”.

“He went through the image, looking pixel by pixel and found that spot,” Mr. Petro added.

India had assumed to produce space antiquity amidst the Rs. 1,000-crore Chandrayaan 2 mission.

Williamson, Taylor deny England series draw

0

Just ahead of the drinks break, on the fifth morning in Hamilton, England thought they’ve got the opening they’d been looking for. Jofra Archer saw Kane Williamson chip back a well-disguised knuckleball straight to short-midwicket. Archer took off in celebration, not realizing Joe Denly had shelled the easiest of chances. Not that it would have had any defining impact on the game, with weather destined to dash England’s hopes of a series parity if not the Williamson-Taylor combo that was going strong at 213 not out.

The New Zealand skipper was on 62 then and went on to raise his 21st Test century just after the Lunch break. In a race against the rain gods, Ross Taylor rushed into his 19th with back to back sixes off Joe Root. And, as if on cue, the heavens opened up just then, washing away any faint prospect of a result. Numbers-wise, New Zealand’s lead stood at 140 with all eight wickets in hand when the players were taken off, while it was England’s time for a wicketless session filled with milestones for the hosts.

Though they have only themselves to blame, Denly wasn’t the only one to drop Williamson. As early as in the fourth over of the morning, at a time when a wicket or two could have thrown the game wide open, Ben Stokes saw Ollie Pope miss a regulation ‘keeper’s catch behind the stumps. England’s new wicketkeeper was late to react and the New Zealand skipper got his first reprieve on 39.

Two balls later, Williamson swivel-pulled Stokes behind square for a boundary that wiped out their deficit. He then went on to register his 32nd Test fifty and the century of his partnership with Ross Taylor as he drove Curran past mid-off in his final over of the opening spell. Taylor caught up quickly in the next over, with the first of the two consecutive boundary hits off Stokes as England looked for a double bowling change.

The second half was an extension of the same – Williamson and Taylor trying to match each other shot for a shot while England grew desperate to break the partnership that went past 150 and also pushed New Zealand’s lead into triple figures. Joe Root did indulge in a desperate review when Williamson failed to connect his pull and the ball landed in Pope’s gloves. Replays only confirmed it hit Williamson’s helmet and indeed made no contact with the bat. Taylor, meanwhile, became only the second New Zealand batsman after Stephen Fleming to breach the 7000-run barrier in Test cricket, with his 83rd run in this knock.

The rain allowed Williamson and Taylor just enough time to reach their milestones in a match headed towards a stalemate.

Brief scores: New Zealand 375 (B Watling 105, D Mitchell 73; S Broad 4-73, C Woakes 3-83) and 241/2 (R Taylor 105*, K Williamson 104*; C Woakes 1-12) drew with England 476 (J Root 226, R Burns 101, O Pope 75; N Wagner 5-124).

In the recent past, there have been enough speculations regarding the availability of Gayle for the tournament. Incidentally, last week, the veteran opener had noted, “I don’t even know how my name reached the BPL”.

”We are happy to announce that Gayle will play for us and there is no uncertainty about his participation in the tournament,” said Challengers’ Managing Director KM Rifatuzzaman. ”He is having a hamstring problem, so we will not get him from the beginning, but we are hopeful to have him at some point in the tournament. 6-yr-old girl raped, strangled with her school belt in Rajasthan

0

A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped and strangled to death in Tonk district of Rajasthan, the Hindustan Times reported on Monday. The child had gone missing on Saturday, and her body was found the next day in Aligarh town.

“The victim is of Class 1 in a government institution,” Aligarh Station House Officer Ram Krishan stated. “On Saturday, she was in class till 3 pm as there was a cultural celebration. After that, she didn’t reach her house. Her parents explored for her but they were helpless to find her.”

Preliminary investigation suggested that the girl was raped and then strangled to death with the school belt that she was wearing, Krishan added. Some locals found her body among bushes in a remote area in Aligarh and then informed the police.

The police alleged that the girl’s family did not report her missing on Saturday. “The girl used to live with her four matrilineal uncles,” Tonk Additional Superintendent of Police Vipin Sharma said. “All of them lived in nearby houses. Family members told us that they thought that she would be in a nearby house and must be sleeping there, that’s why they didn’t lodge any missing person report.”

The police have filed an FIR against unknown persons under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and the Indian Penal Code but have not yet made any arrests.
The incident comes amid increasing calls for better rules and policing to ensure the safety of women.

Last week, a veterinary surgeon was murdered after allegedly being raped near Hyderabad. Her charred body was found on Thursday, triggering protests. A 25-year-old law student was abducting and raped in Ranchi earlier last week, and in Delhi, a 55-year-old woman was allegedly raped and strangled in the Gulabi Bagh area on Saturday.

Telecom Stocks Zoom As Companies Hike Tariffs

0

Telecom stocks jumped on Monday after three of India’s telecom giants – Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio – announced higher tariffs from this month. Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea shares soared as much as 9.82 percent and 24.30 percent respectively, whereas shares in Reliance Industries – the parent company of Reliance Jio Infocomm – rose 4.07 percent at the strongest level in the morning. Analysts say the higher mobile tariffs will ease some of the pressure on the telecom service providers’ balance sheets.

Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel have decided to increase the tariffs with effect from December 3, while Reliance Jio will implement the hike from December 6.

The three telecom companies together account for more than 90 percent of the country’s 118 crore mobile subscribers.

Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel have announced new prepaid plans priced from Rs 19 to Rs 2,399, offering a validity period ranging from two days to 365 days.

Reliance Jio has not outlined its plans as yet but said that its tariffs will be 40 percent higher and bundled with 300 percent more benefits to the customers.

The hike in tariff comes in the backdrop of record losses reported by both Bharti Airtel and Vodafone for the quarter ended September 30 due to huge provisions towards dues owed over the telecom unit for adjusted gross revenue (AGR).

A Supreme Court ruling on the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) in October came as a huge setback for telecom companies, as it allowed the telecom department to recover dues worth Rs 1.33 lakh crore from them.

The top court rejected the telecom companies’ appeal against the government’s definition of AGR.
The DoT and the mobile carriers have done at differences aloft the sense of AGR. The organizations claim that AGR should include just interest gathered from core duties, while the DoT says AGR should include all revenue.

Telecom providers in the country pay the telecom department nearly 3-5 percent of their adjusted gross revenue in usage charges for spectrum or airwaves and 8 percent of AGR as license fees.

Additionally, Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel have an outstanding debt of more than Rs 1 lakh crore each. According to government data, the liabilities of Bharti Airtel add up to nearly Rs 35,586 crore, of which Rs 21,682 crore is license fee.

Virat Kohli Rewarded Himself With Fries, Chocolate Shake After his 235 Against England

0

Virat Kohli follows a strict diet and loves to remain fit. He has not had a cheat day in the past few years but the India captain makes it a point to have a heavy meal whenever his body requires. In an interview with a news agency, Virat Kohli said, he rewarded himself with “chicken burger, a big plate of fries and chocolate shake” after scoring 235 runs in hot and humid conditions in Mumbai during a Test match against England back in 2016. Virat Kohli also said it was an advice given by Shanker Basu, the then fitness trainer of the Indian cricket team.

“When I ended on 235, I was finished, I was heated because throughout the game I don’t like to eat densely, so I was concentrating on bananas and water and a slight bit of dal-chawal and so on. So Basu sir (Shanker Basu) told me, ‘tonight, you can afford to eat anything you like,’ but even then I ordered – and I was eating meat that time – I ordered a chicken burger, I took off the top bun – I couldn’t stop myself – I said, okay, one piece of bread is okay, not two, but then I had a large course of fries and then I had a shake simultaneously with that, because I acknowledged, my body requires it,” Virat Kohli said during the interview.

“So if my body required carbs, okay, go forward and break a meal, (but) not a fraud day,” the 31-year-old added.

Kohli has transformed himself a lot by maintaining a strict fitness regime in the past few years. He has occasionally posted his workout videos on Instagram. At 31, Kohli remains one of the fastest runners between the wickets.

After leading India to a clean sweep in the home Test series against Bangladesh, Kohli will be next seen in action during the limited-overs series’ against the West Indies, starting from December 6.

The two teams are scheduled to play three T20Is and three Tests respectively. clash. Captain Virat Kohli, who was rested from the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, is back to lead the side.

Also, the return of regulars like Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja in the T20I side suggests that India is close to finding their best combination after experimenting with Krunal Pandya and Rahul Chahar for a brief period. Krunal, however, has enough time to stage a comeback.

Test team pace spearheads Mohammed Shami, who has been breathing fire with the red ball, was also named in the T20I squad. This gives a clear indication that India is still ready to fall back on trusted soldiers in their quest to find the perfect balance before the T20I World Cup next year in Australia. Shami had last played a T20I back in 2017 against the West Indies.

India vs West Indies T20I schedule:

AUS vs PAK: Lyon traps the overnight batsmen in extended first session

0

Losing two wickets in an extended two-and-a-half-hour morning session isn’t quite catastrophic — unless you’re following-on and staring at an innings defeat like Pakistan. Nathan Lyon picked both the overnight batsmen on the fourth morning, finding occasional turn and bounce that combined with some unforced errors from Pakistan to reduce them to 167/5 at Tea on Day 4.

There wasn’t much on offer in terms of conditions. The pitch is still flat, and the old pink ball not doing enough. Laying exactly into that, Masood and Shafiq indeed started well. Masood was on the receiving end of some short balls from Mitchell Starc but he dealt it relatively well this morning, pulling a couple of them for boundaries. And he launched a six as soon as Lyon came into the attack.

But well set on 71, Masood decided to attack Lyon and handed out a simple catch to mid-off. Shafiq, Masood’s partner in the 103-run stand, was more stable at the other end before he came up against some fine bowling and captaincy.

Lyon, from round the wicket to the right-hander, extracted some turn and bounce and had Shafiq caught at leg-slip 20 minutes out from Tea.

Still 120 behind with only five wickets in hand, Pakistan will face an uphill battle in the second session. Pat Cummins bowled just the couple of overs at the start of the session, so he should be nice and fresh for the next.

Brief ScoresAustralia 589/3 declared Pakistan 302 & 167/5 (Shan Masood 68, Asad Shafiq 57; Nathan Lyon 2-44, Josh Hazlewood 2-50) by 120 runs.
