Samsung Note 10 Lite Spotted on Geekbench with Exynos 9810 SoC

0

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite, which is a watered-down version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10, recently surfaced online with a rumored launch timeline of December 2019. Now, a new Samsung phone tipped to be the Galaxy Note 10 Lite has been spotted on Geekbench carrying the model number SM-N770F. The Galaxy Note 10 Lite’s visit to the benchmarking platform revealed some interesting details about the phone such as the processor powering it and the clock speed, the amount of RAM fitted inside, and the software it runs.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite’s Geekbench listing was spotted by the news agency and it was uploaded on the benchmarking platform earlier today. The alleged Galaxy S10 Lite was listed on Geekbench with the model number SM-N770F, which is quite similar to the SM-G770F model number of the alleged Galaxy S10 Lite. The Geekbench listing reveals that the Galaxy Note 10 Lite will draw power from Exynos 9810 SoC clocked at 1.79GHz, ticking alongside 6GB of RAM. It must be noted the Exynos 9810 is the same processor that powered Samsung’s previous-gen flagships like the Galaxy Note 9 and the Galaxy S9 duo.

Samsung has traditionally launched two variants of its flagship phones – one powered by an in-house Exynos SoC and the other based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon-series. We expect Samsung to do something similar in this case as well and might eventually launch a Snapdragon-powered Galaxy Note 10 Lite in some markets. As per a previous report, the Galaxy Note 10 Lite will be launched in India next month alongside the Galaxy A91.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite’s Geekbench listing also mentions Android 10 as the phone’s operating system. As far as performance goes, the phone scored 667 in Geekbench’s single-core test and put up a tally of 2,030 in the multi-core test. Unfortunately, the Geekbench listing does not reveal any further information about the Galaxy Note 10 Lite’s internal hardware.

AFG Vs WI: Shamarh Brooks’ maiden ton inflates lead to 90

0

Afghanistan struck back with a rush of wickets to keep West Indies‘ lead in control, but they couldn’t stop Shamarh Brooks to power through to his maiden Test ton at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Breaking the stand between Shane Dowrich and Brooks that fetched 74 for the sixth wicket – West Indies’ highest sixth-wicket stand of the year – Afghanistan got their inlet. Given how West Indies started the day, Afghanistan will be stoked with their fightback to pick up the remainder of the five wickets in the session, bowling West Indies out for 277, with a lead of 90 by Tea on Thursday (November 28).

Rashid Khan continued to pose questions on a deteriorating wicket, beating the batsmen a fair few times. Still extracting turn and bounce, he flummoxed the batsmen with his guile and wily leg-spin. But the break didn’t come. It was Zahir Khan, who managed to break the fifty-run stand, beating Dowrich on the inside edge for 42. Jason Holder was stumped, and Rahkeem Cornwall was adjudged leg-before despite a huge inside edge as West Indies were crumbling. Amongst it all, Brooks stood tall and reached his maiden Test century – a knock of perseverance and grit. Amir Hamza then delivered the final blows, angling in an arm ball to Brooks, who went for the slog-sweep for 111 before trapping Kemar Roach leg-before to return his maiden five-wicket haul. And in his debut innings.

There was heavy fog in the morning with visibility levels being pretty low as conditions were tough to play in. However, play started on time and runs flowed upfront. John Campbell got to his maiden Test fifty before Afghanistan dented West Indies with quick wickets. It was Hamza who provided Afghanistan with the inlet once again, breaking the overnight stand that was nearing a century. Ihsanullah pulled off a stunner in the region of a leg-gully. Campbell went for the paddle sweep and lobbed one to the fielder, which put an end to his impressive innings of 55, that came off just 75.

Shimron Hetmyer’s dismal run in Test continued with another failure. Rashid Khan, who was getting lots of turn and bounce, forced another poor score after trapping him in front with the leg break as West Indies lost two wickets in the opening hour. Replays showed that the ball may have missed leg stump, but given Hetmyer’s uncomfortable stay in the middle, it was only a matter of time.

Brooks, meanwhile, continued unperturbed scoring his second consecutive Test fifty, which came at a vital time with wickets falling at the other end. Despite the wickets, runs came at a brisk pace as the batsmen found the boundaries regularly. The dependable Roston Chase fell cheaply to Zahir Khan, failing to negate the turn and dip and ended up with an edge to the short leg as Afghanistan’s spinners were causing all the damage. Rashid would’ve had another had it not been for Afsar Zazai putting down Brooks when on 59.

Brief scores: Afghanistan 187 (Javed Ahmadi 39, Afsar Zazai 32; Rahkeem Cornwall 7-75) trail West Indies 277 (John Campbell 55, Shamarh Brooks 111; Amir Hamza 5-74, Rashid Khan 3-114) by 90 runs.

Twitter Rethinks Plan to Delete Inactive Accounts

0

Twitter has put its plan to delete inactive accounts on hold for now as the social media giant first figures out a way to memorialize the accounts of the deceased users. Further, the company will also be working on broadening its inactive account policy in the future to comply with other regulations around the world and to ensure the integrity of the service. To recall, Twitter on Tuesday had revealed its plans to start deleting accounts that haven’t been active in the last six months.

The initial goal of Twitter’s decision to deactivate the inactive accounts was to present more reliable and credible information that people can trust. And this move also meant to encourage the people having a Twitter account to actively log in and use the service after they have registered an account. But the bigger picture the social networking giant missed in the midst of all this was that not only the users that have abandoned their accounts will be affected, but also the accounts of the users who are no more alive will be impacted as well. And, this could also affect the people who have been revisiting the accounts of the deceased loved ones just so they can relive some of the memories.

But, to the relief of everyone, Twitter won’t be taking any actions to remove the inactive accounts for now. According to a tweet by Twitter Support, the company has acknowledged that they didn’t realize the impact this move will have on the accounts of the deceased and their loved ones who have been holding on to those memories. And, the company has assured that until they can find new ways for people to memorialize accounts, they won’t be removing any inactive accounts beginning December 11. Additionally, the company has also apologized for the confusion and concerns caused and will keep all the users posted.

Pakistan leg-spinner Yasir Shah narrated his and his teammates’ encounter with an Indian taxi driver in Brisbane that won the hearts of many on the internet. In a video shared by the Pakistan Cricket Board on Facebook, Shah recounts how they met the cab driver and how he ended up having dinner with them.

In the video, he says that on their first day in Brisbane, where they lost the first Test against Australia, he along with teammates Imran Khan, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Musa, and Shaheen Shah Afridi, were looking for a nice Indian or Pakistani restaurant to go have dinner. That is when they met the Sikh taxi driver, whose story has now become viral.

“On our first day in Brisbane, we didn’t know where there was an Indian or Pakistani restaurant. So when the five of us stepped out – Imran Khan, me, Naseem Shah, Musa, and Shaheen Shah – we saw a cab and hailed it,” Yasir Shah said in the video.

https://www.facebook.com/PakistanCricketBoard/videos/2572788032802832/?v=2572788032802832

“We saw he was a ‘Paa ji’ from India. So we spoke to him in Urdu and asked him to take us to a nice restaurant,” he added.

“He recognized us and chatted with us about cricket and him,” the spinner continued.
“When we reached, he refused to take our fare,” Yasir Shah said.

“So I told him if you are not taking our fare, you have to join us for dinner,” Shah said.

“He agreed to the dinner and sat with us. He was very happy that we offered him dinner and clicked pictures with us,” he concluded.

Pakistan lost the series opener in Brisbane by an innings and five runs. The second match – a day-night Test in Adelaide – begins on Friday.

Galaxy A50 gets new update including December 2019 security patch

0

Neither Google nor Samsung has revealed the December 2019 security patch, but the Galaxy A50 has surpassed all the other devices to the thrust as it is now getting a new update in Israel, which combines the newest security firmware. The December 2019 security patch update is added in the newest Android 10 beta, but this is the first time that it reaches a Galaxy smartphone on a live build.

The new update reaching the Galaxy A50 provides version number A505FDDU3ASKA, and the character U after ‘DD’ in the variant number indicates the update should technically introduce new characteristics along with enhanced security. As of yet, there are no confirmed new features. Although the rollout is restricted to Israel as of now, it should grow into more quarters sooner rather than later.

As usual, the upgrade is followed by a notification which users can tap to begin the update method, or users can launch the Settings app on your Galaxy A50, go to software update option and check for the latest software build manually.

BJP Condemns Pragya Thakur’s Godse comment, Dumps Her From Defence Panel

0

BJP MP Pragya Thakur has been removed from the consultative committee of the defense ministry a day after she described Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse as a patriot in parliament. Her comments had sparked outrage, with the opposition in Lok Sabha condemning what it called the “BJP’s deplorable hate politics.”

“We have decided that Pragya Singh Thakur will be removed from the consultative committee of defense, and in this session, she will not be allowed to participate in BJP parliamentary party meetings,” said BJP’s working president JP Nadda.

“Her statement yesterday in the parliament is condemnable. BJP never supports such a statement or ideology,” said Mr. Nadda.

Pragya Thakur, a first-time MP, made the Godse comment during a discussion on the Special Protection Group (Amendment) Bill on Wednesday. As protests erupted in the house, BJP members asked Pragya Thakur to sit down. “That is the heart of the RSS and the BJP. That is their soul and no matter how much they say otherwise, it will always come out,” said Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.

Later, pressed by reporters to clarify her remarks, Pragya Thakur said, “Listen to what I said first. I’d reply tomorrow.”

“The very soch (thinking) of Nathuram Godse being deshbhakt (patriot), should end,” Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said in parliament today.

There was outrage and much social media debate after Pragya Thakur was last week listed among the 21 members of the parliamentary consultative committee on Defence chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The BJP had said that the first-time MP can help in “framing right methodology” so that innocents are not “victimized” the way she was by the Congress-led government.

Pragya Thakur, a 2008 Malegaon blasts accused, is out on bail and is facing trial for charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

She had been berated earlier this year by her party for calling Nathuram Godse a patriot.

strike by employees illegal, they are not entitled to salaries

0

The TSRTC management further said that they have powers to deduct salaries and recover losses from the protesting employees.

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) management on Wednesday told the Telangana High Court that the workers are not entitled to salaries as they went on an ‘illegal’ strike. The court was hearing a writ petition filed by Telangana Jathiya Mazdoor Union seeking a direction for the payment of salaries for the month of September.

Additional Advocate General J Ramchander Rao representing the TSRTC management, however, told the court that the management is vested with powers not only to deduct salary of the workers who went on the ‘illegal’ strike but is also empowered to recover losses suffered by the Corporation during the strike period under the provisions of the Payment of Wages Act. The AAG further contended that the high court cannot issue any direction in the issue, The Hindu reported.

According to the management, the 52-day strike by the TSRTC employees which began on October 5 was ‘illegal.’ The merits of the strike’s legality have been transferred to the Labour Commissioner by the High Court. The labor court is yet to make a decision on this. Though the 48,000-odd employees called off their strike on Monday, the government refused to take them back, stating that they would take a call on the matter only after the Labour court hears the matter and passes directions.

The New Indian Express reported that after hearing the arguments, the court said that prima facie appeared that the employees were entitled to the salary. However, as the petitioner’s counsel couldn’t make a convincing argument contesting the AAG’s observation, Justice Shavili directed them to come prepared for the next hearing scheduled for December 4.

It must be recalled that earlier in October, the court had asked the management to pay the salary for the month of September to the protesting workers. However, the TSRTC management expressed its helplessness and said that it requires Rs 239 crore to pay the salaries to over 48,000 employees while it had only Rs 7.49 crore.

Thackeray’s Big Oath Today Likely With 6 Ministers, From 3 Parties

0

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray will take over as Maharashtra Chief Minister today and head a Sena-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)-Congress alliance. He is likely to be sworn in with six ministers -two from each party.

The ministers likely to be sworn in this evening are the Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde and Subhash Desai, NCP’s Jayant Patil and Chhaggan Bhujbal and Congress’s Balasaheb Thorat and Ashok Chavan.
NCP’s Ajit Pawar, who returned to the party fold after an 80-hour stint as Deputy Chief Minister of a BJP-led government, may remarkably get the same post in the Maha Vikas Aghadi government. Sources say, however, that he may not be sworn in today.

Ajit Pawar may face competition in the form of party colleague Jayant Patil, who had replaced him as chief of the NCP legislature party during his short-lived rebellion.

Congress will be given the post of Speaker, for which the name of former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan is being speculated.

Of the 43 Maharashtra ministries, the Sena is likely to get 16, the NCP 15 and the Congress 12. The allocation of ministries is yet to be decided, say sources, indicating tough negotiations ahead.
With the Congress getting the Speaker’s post, the NCP has reportedly demanded an extra ministry.

The Shiv Sena, which emerged the second largest party in last month’s Maharashtra election with 56 seats in the 288-member assembly, tied up with the NCP (54) and Congress (44) after ending its alliance with the BJP (105) over power-sharing.

The Sena had insisted on rotational chief ministership, which the BJP rejected.

The BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis resigned on Tuesday, four days after a controversial early morning oath ceremony in which Ajit Pawar was sworn in as his deputy. Before the oath, President’s Rule was revoked at 5.47 am following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approval through a rarely used rule in which allows the bypassing of the cabinet for emergency decisions.

Mr. Fadnavis resigned after the Supreme Court ordered him to prove his majority in an immediate floor test. The BJP was 40 short of a majority and Ajit Pawar had failed to bring in NCP MLAs required to close the gap.

Hyderabad road accidents three persons killed, 2 injured in separate road accidents

0

Three persons were killed and two were injured in four separate accidents which took place on Wednesday in Hyderabad.

Just a day after a 35-year-old woman riding a two-wheeler was mowed down by an RTC bus in Banjara Hills, another woman was killed in a similar accident by a lorry in Kushaiguda. The deceased was identified as Saritha, a resident of ECIL. She was travelling on her scooter from Kushaiguda towards her house when the lorry hit her from behind. The incident occurred at around 3pm.

In the accident, Saritha suffered head injury and succumbed. After the accident, the lorry driver fled from the spot leaving the vehicle behind. Police have registered a case under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC.

In another series of road accidents which took place at Malakpet and Kukatpally, two persons identified as 20-year-old Shekar and 25-year-old Syed Khasim died. While Shekar was hit by an RTC bus, Khasim died after being hit by a speeding lorry.

According to The Times of India, Shekar, a resident of Dilsukhnagar was travelling from Dilsukhnagar to Moosarambagh on his two-wheeler, when an RTC bus proceeding towards Secunderabad from Dilsukhnagar crashed into his bike. Shekhar died on the spot.
Syed Khasim, a resident of Ayyappa Society, who reportedly works as a bus driver at a college died after his two-wheeler was hit by a speeding lorry from behind, near Vasanth Nagar Bus Stop in Kukatpally on Wednesday. Khasim was crushed under the rear tyre of the lorry.

In another accident which took place in LB Nagar, two women were injured after a car hit them before overturning. The victims are availing treatment at a private hospital.

England aim to hit back with a win in the final test vs New Zealand

0

It is such a shame that New Zealand’s excellent, commanding victory in the first Test at Bay Oval last week will not be rewarded with World Test Championship points. That this series is not in the WTC is yet another example of those who run the game finding ways to make themselves look not so genius. But with or without the points that should be due to them, New Zealand’s performance highlighted once more how very good value they are for their second place in the Test rankings.

Given their form, New Zealand’s next two series against Australia and India, the former away and the latter at home, look set to be absolute belters, particularly the match-up against Virat Kohli and his world number one side in February. Given New Zealand have now won eleven of their last 13 Tests at home, it will be some challenges for India and their captain. But for now, at least, the future can wait. First, Kane Williamson’s side has the second Test in Hamilton against England to navigate.

Given this series does not form part of the WTC, and that Trent Boult and Colin de Grandhomme have been ruled out with injuries, the match is a chance for New Zealand to test their depth ahead of the harder tests to come. They certainly won’t be taking England lightly – this New Zealand team doesn’t do arrogance or get carried away – but the second Test is an opportunity to get a couple of fringe players up to Test speed in case they are needed in Australia.

Having already played nine T20Is, all-rounder Daryl Mitchell is confirmed to make his Test debut in place of de Grandhomme after being called-up ahead of James Neesham. Mitchell is a similar type of cricketer to de Grandhomme, more of a batsman but with the ability to bowl good medium pace. He averages 35 with the bat and 33 with the ball in first-class cricket and has seven centuries from 67 games. Whether he can match de Grandhomme’s indifferent ‘I am so chilled I could be playing in a park with my mates’ demeanor is doubtful, however.

Which one of Lockie Ferguson or Matt Henry replaces Boult remains to be seen but each has its strengths and both will almost certainly be in the squad for the three-match Australia series. As Boult’s injury has proved, fast-bowlers often go lame and getting some Test match intensity overs into either Ferguson or Henry will be good preparation should they be called upon in Australia. With all due respect to Henry, a debut for Ferguson – all pace and mustachioed aggression – would be the most fun.

After their innings defeat last week, only the here and now matters for England. The four-match series against South Africa next month can wait as they look to prevent this winter lurching into crisis before it has begun. Given England are only one game into a new coaching regime and their supposed new focus on Test cricket, suggestions of crisis might seem harsh? But such has been the inconsistency of England’s play since 2015, patience is in short supply, particularly with the manner of their overseas struggles.

The aftermath of the defeat in Mount Maunganui has been rather more eventful for England than they would have wanted. The racist abuse suffered by Jofra Archer on the final day at Bay Oval is still being investigated and will have proven an unsavory and unwelcome distraction. Head coach Chris Silverwood will head home after the second day’s play in Hamilton following a family bereavement. The form and leadership of captain Joe Root have also come into focus after a disappointing performance in the first Test. England might well be relieved to get back onto the field.

When they do, there are few aspects of their game that do not need improvement from the effort in Mount Maunganui. While there was no shortage of hard work in the first match, even during New Zealand’s mammoth innings, that only goes so far against a team as skilled and disciplined as the home side. England’s batsmen need to bat for longer, the bowlers need more of a cutting edge, the fielding and body language needs to be more consistent and Root needs to do better tactically. Aside from that, they are pretty much there.

England’s ability to bounce back from defeat is one of their major strengths. True, if they didn’t lose so much they wouldn’t have to major in bouncebackability. But given they have lost 41% of their matches under Root, it’s a useful quality to have. After the defeat at Edgbaston in the Ashes, they had much the better of a rain-affected game at Lord’s, for instance. After losing at Old Trafford, they followed it up with a convincing win at The Oval. From the ridiculous to the sublime in the space of a week is how England tends to operate. It is one of the many maddening things about this team.

controversy director I like poking people, says RGV

0

Maverick director Ram Gopal Varma claims that he always liked taking a dig at people. “From my childhood, I liked poking people, so my films are extension of that trait,” says the director in an interview to promote his upcoming hard-hitting film ‘Kadapa Rajyamlo Reddlu’ set to release on November 29. “It is a spoof on political situation post-Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh. For the first time, we will be showing what is going to happen in the future also in Cuddapah, like the rise of factionalism which no one showed before. I have a look-alike of Pawan Kalyan but nothing to do with real-life Pawan. Even reference of ‘pottodu’ is not Jr NTR. Resemblance or reference to real-life persons is mere coincidence,” he laughs.

But the trailer was targeting only one particular party-Telugu Desam Party and its top leaders. “I am just showing the fictional story of rumblings in a party that has lost elections. In fact, I got to know that some Telugu Desam party leaders liked my trailer. Particularly, the ‘Pappu’ scene because I was showing what they couldn’t express in person.
I have not received any threat calls, probably they are worried about my recording them,” he points out. He claims to have worked hard to find look-alikes of various political leaders and celebrities for his movie. On K A Paul moving the Court, he says “Firstly, KA Paul is a funny man to me and also he is busy stalling World War 3. I have faced court cases even in the past,” he opines.

He also denies that he is supporting one community and deriding another one. “That’s not true. Once you watch the complete film, then you will know. It is just fun-centric political satire,” he adds. However, he says that he is dedicating his film to two famous people-father and son. “You guess the names,” he chuckles. On receiving brickbats and cuss words for his work, “I can’t sleep well if I don’t hear cuss words against me every day, so I am used to it,” he points out.

The director of ‘Shiva’ says that he is able to make films faster than others because he has a dedicated team. “From the germination of story idea to completion of the movie, parallel teams work for me. Hence, I could make more films.” On shifting his focus to political dramas from gangster and horror flicks, he adds “I do stories that excite me at that point of time,” he informs. He claims to be observing the political happenings in Maharasthra over the last one month, “I have to make another ‘Sarkar,’ but no such plans for now as my next film will be a love story and another one would revolve around martial arts,” he signs off. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will be meeting governor Tamilisai Sounderarajan today at Raj Bhavan. He will be holding talks on the ongoing TSRTC strike and privatization of 5100 bus routes. The Chief Minister is likely to take a decision on the strike, sustainability of RTC and privatizing 50 percent of the organization. The meeting comes after the High Court backed the government’s decision of privatizing RTC.

The court said that there is nothing wrong with the government’s decision and gave a green signal. However, the RTC employees vented out anger with the court’s verdict and the chief minister’s stubborn attitude towards RTC workers. It may be recalled that the RTC JAC asked the chief minister to allow the workers to rejoin duties and decided to call off the strike. With no response from KCR, the unions resumed the strike.

Wagner paths a way for New Zealand to stunning win

0

Neil Wagner‘s fiery burst on the final day piloted New Zealand to a remarkable come-from-behind victory against England in the first Test in Bay Oval. The tourists were cleaned up for 197 in their second innings to lose by an innings and 65 runs.

England began the final session eight down and on the brink of an innings defeat. However, Jofra Archer (29) and Sam Curran (30*) gave England slim hopes of saving the Test with a 59-run stand. The duo played and missed, a few of the edges didn’t go to the fielders and also survived a string of reviews. Curran and Jofra were also prepared to attack by cracking cuts, flicks and the odd drive.

Just that, with the score reading 197 for 8, Wagner once again gave the crucial breakthrough by removing Archer. The lower-order batsman couldn’t resist pulling the pacer straight to the fielder positioned at fine leg. Wagner then provided the finishing touches by dismissing the last man Stuart Broad LBW off the very next ball. The veteran placed his belief in the review but to no avail.

The New Zealand camp was jubilant with the hard-earned win as England slipped to yet another loss away from home in the longest format. The visitors, though, had a decent chance of saving the Test, after Joe Denly and Ben Stokes raised hopes of taking the visitors to safer waters in the second session. Despite Mitchell Santner and Tim Southee troubling the duo, Stokes and Denly were able to hold the innings together on a track that was showing signs of natural wear and tear.

However, Southee continued to apply the pressure on Stokes by using the crease and also the quarter-seam ball. His efforts also bore fruit in the 69th over when Stokes chopped one onto the stumps. The all-rounder was livid with himself for attempting a cut shot on a track that was consistently staying low on the final day.

Wagner took over from his pace colleague by dismissing Denly, Ollie Pope and Jos Buttler to more or less seal the deal for the hosts. The left-arm pacer hit one of the cracks hard to snare the important scalp of Denly. From wide of the crease and round the wicket, he got one to kick viciously and Denly could only glove it to the ‘keeper. Meanwhile, Santner deserved a large share of the credit for Pope’s wicket as he showed amazing reflexes to leap in the air at short-cover to grab the catch. Wagner then nailed the yorker from round the wicket to castle Buttler. The wicketkeeper-batsman paid the price for his misjudgment.

Earlier, the first session of the final day turned out to be a battle of survival for England. The visiting side’s batsmen stuck to their task quite well, losing just one wicket. On a slow pitch, showing signs of natural wear and tear, Root and Denly began the day with an intent to stonewall New Zealand. It was the introduction of Colin de Grandhomme’s medium pace that caused a few problems. His lack of pace resulted in Denly attempting a couple of loose drives. However, it was his teammate, Root, who was dismissed by de Grandhomme in the 43rd over of the innings. Denly then in the company of Stokes took the side to Lunch.

BJ Watling (205) was the grand architect of New Zealand’s impressive win. At stumps on Day 2, New Zealand was in a spot of bother at 144 for 4. However, Watling wore down England’s bowlers with his long vigil at the crease. He also found able allies in de Grandhomme and the ever-reliable Santner (126), as he went about his task of scripting a stunning turnaround. Watling and Santner’s 261-run record-breaking stand for the seventh wicket turned out to be the decisive partnership that broke the back of England.

Going into the second Test in Hamilton, the only major worry for New Zealand would be Trent Boult suffering a rib injury on Day 5. He bowled a solitary over before walking back to the pavilion. The pacer is set to undergo an MRI scan tomorrow.

Meanwhile, England has a lot to ponder about. The batting unit couldn’t get a substantial score in the first innings on a flat pitch. The bowlers largely maintained their disciplines but just couldn’t find a way to dismiss Watling and Co. Archer and Curran, who are both inexperienced in terms of bowling with the Kookaburra ball, would look to learn from the chastening experience ahead of the final Test, starting from November 29.

Brief scores: England 353 & 197 (Joe Denly 35, Rory Burns 31; Neil Wagner 5-44) lost to New Zealand 615/9 decl. (BJ Watling 205, Mitchell Santner 126; Sam Curran 3-119) by an innings and 65 runs.
