0

Joe Denly has been ruled out of the T20I series against New Zealand after suffering an ankle injury. Denly damaged a ligament in his ankle during practice prior to the opening T20I in which he was expected to feature. Following the injury, England handed a debut to Lewis Gregory and went on to win the contest comfortably by seven wickets.

Denly had earlier found a spot in the squad after several regulars were rested for the ongoing series. He recently featured in the Ashes, at home, scoring 312 runs in the series. The 33-year-old has also been named in the Test squad for the two-match series in New Zealand. Denly ‘will now start a rehabilitation program and will be routinely assessed ahead of the two-match Test series’ according to an ECB spokesperson.

England will not call for a replacement for the rest of the series and will hope Denly recovers in time to feature in the longer format. The second T20I will be played in Wellington on Sunday (November 3).

Rahul not only impresses with his voice but also with his performance in the Bigg Boss house. The final week of Bigg Boss 3 is going on, and Rahul is the first finalist in the Bigg Boss house. Seeing his craze on social media pages, Rahul Sipligun is much likely to win the title this time. But, it seems like Bigg Boss is planning to get him out of focus. Bigg Boss has been targeting Rahul and is indirectly focussing on other contestants like Sreemukhi and Baba Bhaskar. In terms of the craze, Rahul has nothing less than Kaushal Manda from Bigg Boss 2. Seeing the craze for Rahul, it appears that Bigg Boss is intentionally reducing his footage and focussing on other housemates. So, unless Bigg Boss makers play some tricks and ignore the voting, Rahul Sipligunj is much likely to get crowned.

“Will Soon Drop Wait And Watch Mode”: Sena

0

Amid a power tussle with the BJP over government formation in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena today sharpened attack on its ally saying that the “President’s rule threat” by BJP minister Sudhir Mungantiwar is an “insult” to the state and people’s mandate as it warned that it will soon drop its “wait and watch mode”.

On Friday, Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar had stated that Maharashtra “may direct for President’s control if the new government in the state is not in place by November 7”. He said the main hurdle in government formation in the state was Sena’s demand for Chief Minister’s post for 2.5 years.

Reacting to the comments, Sena leader Sanjay Raut today warned its ally that the party will soon drop its “wait and watch mode”. “In India, President protects the constitution,” he said. “Has this threat been given after the party exhausted all its means to claim power? Sena will soon drop its wait and watch mode in Maharashtra,” Mr. Raut told reporters.

Upset with the BJP for not accepting its demand for rotational chief ministership and a “50:50” deal for power-sharing, the party also launched a scathing attack in an editorial in the party’s mouthpiece “Saamana”. “Mungantiwar’s statements are a proof of the toxicity brewing with the party (BJP) and in his mind,” the article titled “Is President In Your Pocket? Insult To Maharashtra”, which has been published in the party’s mouthpiece today, reads.

“Is the President under your (BJP’s) control or President’s stamp is at BJP’s office which will be used if the party is not able to form government in the state and President’s rule can be imposed in Maharashtra?” the article further reads

The BJP has occupied 105 of the Maharastra’s 288 seats whereas Sena ended up getting 56 in the state election last week. Together, they are comfortably past the 145-majority mark. However, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray brought up the “50:50 arrangement” last week after results were announced, which he said, was discussed before the national election earlier this year. Sharad Pawar’s NCP placed third in the Maharashtra election with 54 seats, just two behind the Shiv Sena. The Congress won 44.

The tenure of the existing Legislative Assembly in Maharashtra ends on November 8.

In its editorial, Sena said the BJP leader’s comments are an “insult to the state”. “The threat by Sudhir Mungantiwar is unconstitutional… It is an insult to Maharashtra and people’s mandate,” the party said in its editorial. Taking a potshot at its ally, the party said that “Maharashtra politics has become an interesting procession” as it called Mr. Mungatiwar “a firefly that doesn’t light up”.

“The question is why is the government not being formed in Maharashtra… Who will answer? Should people of Maharashtra be held responsible for the announcement of a BJP leader becoming chief minister again and no claims to form a government? The warning to impose President’s rule is like Mughals threatening…,” the Sena further added in its editorial.

Maharashtra does not care about these threats, the party stressed in its mouthpiece, concluding the article saying: “The President is the supreme institution of the Constitution… not an individual but representative of the entire country. The country is not in anyone’s pocket”.

Jersey, which also featured Shraddha Srinath, was hailed by film critics when it released in April this year. The film also performed quite well at the box office. Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh was panned by critics but as of now, it is 2019’s second highest-earning film after Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff’s War.

Meanwhile, the remake of Jersey is the second confirmed cricket-based Bollywood film of 2020. The first is Kabir Khan-directed ’83, which is a fictionalized retelling of India’s historic cricket world cup victory in 1983. The film features Ranveer Singh in the lead role.

Intel has launched a Special Edition version of the company’s existing Core i9-9900K 8-core CPU. The Core i9-9900KS Special Edition Processor, which was launched globally, is capable of running all its eight cores at a turbo frequency of 5GHz. More interestingly, it does not require any extra tuning. Unveiled during Computex 2019, this processor is primarily designed for gamers and for the ones who like to push the limits and overclock their CPU for increased performance. The processor is special in terms of its base and turbo boost clocks, as compared to its predecessor. The turbo boost clocks help to enhance binning of the chips to meet the performance criteria.

The newest addition to Intel’s lineup is built on the 14nm++ manufacturing process, packing 8 cores and 16 threads with a base frequency of up to 4GHz. If needed, it can push all eight cores to 5GHz. It features a TDP of 127W, which is comparatively much higher than Core i9-9900K’s 95W. The chip also has a 16MB Intel Smart Cache and up to 40 platform PCIe lanes.

Frank Soqui, Intel VP and GM of the Desktop, Workstation and Channel Group, in his statement said, “Intel has raised the bar for desktop gaming with the new 9th Gen Intel Core i9-9900KS Special Edition processor. Based on the 9th Gen Intel Core i9-9900K architecture, it’s the world’s best gaming desktop processor made even better and created specifically for extreme gamers who want the most performance possible. This processor demonstrates another innovation milestone for Intel, following last year’s limited edition 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8086K.”

Currently one of the fastest processors available right now, it is said to offer the highest performance in gaming and graphics tests. Intel’s new Core i9-9900KS desktop processor is priced at $513 (approx. Rs 36,400). Official India pricing is yet to be confirmed, but we are expecting it sell higher than the Core i9-9900K which means anything upwards of Rs 50,000.

Instagram has started testing Augmented Reality-based shopping on its platform. Instagram is also testing in-app payments for products. Both features are an extension of Instagram Shopping, a feature which is already available globally.

Instagram will start testing these features first in the US. There is no word on when the new Instagram Shopping features will launch in the US and other markets. Coming to the AR integration, Instagram will let users try out products like makeup on the app.

Instagram demonstrated a user trying out different shades of lipstick from a cosmetics brand. At present, users will be able to experience these products with the selfie camera. The company plans to extend this to the rear camera as well.

This feature isn’t something new as brands like Loreal and Lenskart already offer such experiences for their products. But it’s interesting to see how Instagram will start implementing this considering the platform is already big on brands and advertising.
Moving on to in-app payments, Instagram users will be able to make purchases within the app. An extension of Instagram Shopping, this feature will enable payments on the app itself. This means that users can select a product and purchase it from Instagram without leaving the app.

Instagram Shopping offers product tags with descriptions and a link to the brand’s website. With the implementation of payments, Instagram will most likely drive consumers to its platform for brands which already have a big influence on it. An IPSOS study states that 95 percent of people said Instagram helps them decide whether to buy a new product or service.

Pacers, Vince fetch series lead for England versus New Zealand

0

England put in a clinical performance with both bat and ball on Friday (November 1) to go 1-0 up in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand. Going into this contest with a new-look side against New Zealand sans Kane Williamson and Trent Boult, England were in control right from the word go. After restricting New Zealand to 153/5, the visitors eased to a victory with seven wickets in hand.

Scott Kuggeleijn’s 18-run over got the chase going after two quiet overs to begin with. Jonny Bairstow, who lost his Test spot recently, looked in good touch, slamming the pacer for three fours and a six. It was Mitchell Santner who struck for New Zealand in the final over before the powerplay. Dawid Malan came down the track but managed only an outside edge that was taken with ease by Ish Sodhi at short third man.

James Vince then got off to a flyer fetching two boundaries off his first four balls but Santner slowed down proceedings with another wicket. This time, it was Bairstow who fetched a wide delivery to smash it to deep midwicket where Guptill took a nice running low catch. At the halfway mark, New Zealand were still in with a shout as England needed 84 runs off the last ten overs. However, Vince switched gears to put the game beyond New Zealand’s reach.

He first hammered back-to-back boundaries off Ish Sodhi before picking a Kuggeleijn slower ball to perfection to launch one over midwicket. 24 runs in two overs shifted the momentum firmly in England’s favor and from thereon, it was easy pickings. Vince eventually got to his maiden T20I fifty and even though Santner came back for his final over to get rid of the well-set batsman, skipper Eoin Morgan got the job done with a flurry of boundaries towards the end.

Earlier in the day, the England pace attack kept things tight to keep New Zealand to just 153 on what looked like an ideal wicket to bat on. Taking the pace off the ball did work for England especially at the start with the new ball and that ploy even fetched a maiden in the second over against Colin Munro. New Zealand scored just 6 runs off the first 16 balls and the pressure did result in Martin Guptill getting an inside edge on to his stumps to gift Sam Curran his first wicket in the format.

Morgan’s decision to bowl the left-arm seamer for the third time in the powerplay backfired as New Zealand finally found some momentum. Tim Seifert first flat-batted one over midwicket and Munro finished the over with successive sixes to take 21 from that over that finally pushed the run rate beyond six. But before Munro could tee off, Chris Jordan came into the attack and finished the powerplay with the left-hander’s wicket — a low full toss chipped straight to the midwicket fielder.

The dismissal earned Colin de Grandhomme a promotion and the allrounder did keep himself busy at the crease. After nailing a one-handed six against Patrick Brown, one of the three debutants, de Grandhomme could only mistime a delivery off Adil Rashid at the halfway mark. Seifert was the next to go as England kept chipping away to deny the hosts any momentum. This time, Jordan bowled another full toss with the batsman finding the fielder but replays did suggest that the call was touch and go. With the ball appearing to dip on the batsman – the impact being made a little earlier – the umpires deemed it was not over waist-high to be called a no-ball.

New Zealand had to heavily rely on Ross Taylor and Daryl Mitchell for the finishing touches and even though the pair did click with a half-century stand, the addition of just 48 runs in the final five overs didn’t help their cause. Mitchell fetched a six each off Brown and Jordan whereas Taylor cracked a four and a six at the other end. Brown came back strong to finish proceedings with a top over which summed up New Zealand’s struggles with the willow.

Brief scores: New Zealand 153/5 in 20 overs (Ross Taylor 44, Tim Seifert 32; Chris Jordan 2-28) lost to England 154/3 in 18.3 overs (James Vince 59, Jonny Bairstow 35; Mitchell Santner 3-23) by 7 wickets

Pak PM Says No Fee For Indian Sikhs On Kartarpur Corridor Opening Day

0

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted today that no fee would be charged from Indian pilgrims on the opening day of the Kartarpur corridor on November 9. He also declared that Sikh pilgrims from India would not need a passport to travel to Kartarpur.

“For Sikhs reaching for pilgrimage to Kartarpur from India, I have declared two conditions: i) they won’t need a passport-just an original ID; ii)they no longer have to enroll 10 days in advance. Also, no payment to be debited on the day of initiation and Guruji’s 550th anniversary,” Imran Khan tweeted.

The Kartarpur corridor connects the Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan with the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the corridor in Gurdaspur on November 9 while Imran Khan will declare it open from the other end.

It is the place where the originator of Sikhism Guru Nanak Dev is assumed to have spent the last 18 years of his life.

India has objected to a $20 service charge Pakistan intends to impose on Sikh pilgrims. Disagreement over the issue even led to a delay in launching online registration for pilgrims intending to visit the shrine.

WhatsApp Gets Fingerprint Lock Feature on Android

0

WhatsApp on Thursday announced the launch of Fingerprint Lock for Android. With the move, the Facebook-owned company is finally bringing biometric authentication to the Android app, with iPhone users enjoying both Touch ID (fingerprint recognition) and Face ID (facial recognition) since February this year. With the feature, Android users can now have the app lock automatically and unlock only with their fingerprint. The move comes at a time WhatsApp is making headlines thanks to a recent hack, and its fallout including a lawsuit against spyware-maker NSO Group alleged to have made the hack possible.

WhatsApp Fingerprint Lock for Android

Just like the Touch ID feature enabled for iPhone users, WhatsApp for Android users can now choose to lock the app – with their fingerprints as authentication to unlock it thereafter. Users can also choose how much time the app will automatically lock-in, from immediately after closing, to after 1 minute, and after 30 minutes. Users will also be able to choose whether the content of their messages will be visible in notifications, including the sender of the message.

The features are visible clearly in the company provided the screenshot above. To turn WhatsApp Fingerprint Lock for Android on, users will have to visit Settings > Account > Privacy > Fingerprint lock. Once they enable the Unlock with fingerprint option, they will have to confirm their fingerprint. The feature should start rolling out soon for Android users across the globe.

WhatsApp for iOS has an additional feature for now – users can also choose to use Face ID as their means of biometric authentication. As we mentioned, both Touch ID and Face ID options were enabled for iPhone users back in February. As for Android, the feature first appeared in beta back in August, and the company has now announced its rollout to users of the stable version.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted very heavy rainfall in isolated areas over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Lakshadweep. The weather department has also predicted heavy rain showers at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana as well as Rayalseema.

The MeT department has issued an orange alert in Ernakulam, Malappuram, Thrissur, Kozhikkode for today. A yellow alert has been sounded in other districts of Kerala for today.

Trivandrum in Kerala has already started to receive light rainfall this morning.

Rameswaram District Collector Veeraragavarav has declared a holiday in all the schools across for district today, due to heavy rain forecast.

According to IMD, ‘extremely severe cyclonic storm’ – Kyarr over West-central and adjoining East-central and the north Arabian Sea, moved ¬northwestwards and is likely to move west-southwestwards across west-central Arabian Sea in the next four days. The report said Kyarr is “very likely to weaken into a severe cyclonic storm by early hours of October 31 and into a Cyclonic Storm by the evening of October 31.”

The IMD has also issued an advisory to fishermen to avoid venturing into the west-central Arabian Sea till November 3.

In Puducherry, all government and private schools have been asked by the Chief Minister to declare a holiday today, due to heavy rain.

Tamil Nadu is also receiving rain showers for the past few hours and the state is expected to witness more rain today. Schools in the state have been asked to remain closed for the second consecutive day today because of heavy rain prediction.

Meanwhile, a deep depression in the Arabian Sea has intensified leading to a very severe cyclonic storm – Maha (pronounced as M’Maha) on Wednesday. The cyclonic storm is likely to weaken in the next 12 hours, the weather department said, adding that the storm would move over Lakshadweep Islands before entering the east-central Arabian Sea.

The weather department has sounded a red alert in Lakshwadeep, predicting extremely heavy rainfall today.

Government Asks WhatsApp To Explain Breach Amid Snooping Row

0

The government today said it had asked WhatsApp to explain the breach of privacy of Indian users who were targeted by Israeli spyware earlier this year. It also said attempts to malign the government for the reported breach were completely misleading and “strict action” would be taken against those guilty of violating the law.

“The government of India is committed to protecting the fundamental rights of Indian citizens, including the right to privacy. It is clarified that the government operates strictly as per provisions of law and laid down protocols. There are adequate safeguards to ensure that no innocent citizen is harassed or his privacy breached,” the home ministry said in a statement.

At least two of the activists allegedly on the snoop list have alleged the role of the government, which has emphatically denied it.

The Israeli NSO, the cybersecurity company believed to have used the spyware, said, “Our technology is not designed or licensed for use against human rights activists and journalists” and is licensed only to “vetted and legitimate government agencies”. Facebook has sued NSO, accusing it of using WhatsApp to spread malware.

Union Law and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also hit out at the opposition Congress, accusing it of snooping on “highly reputed individuals” at the instance of one family.

Mr. Prasad’s statement came after WhatsApp confirmed that several Indian users had been targeted by Israeli spyware earlier this year in a hacking spree that included journalists, activists, lawyers, and senior government officials. The journalists and activists are believed to have been spied on for two weeks in April. WhatsApp’s parent company Facebook has sued Israeli cybersecurity company NSO alleging it used WhatsApp servers to spread malware to 1,400 users across 20 countries. Pegasus, a spyware developed by NSO, was used to break into the phones.

“The government of India is concerned at the breach of privacy of citizens of India on the messaging platform WhatsApp. We have urged WhatsApp to describe the kind of violation and what it is doing to safeguard the secrecy of millions of Indian residents,” Mr Prasad said.

“The government is committed to protecting the privacy of all Indian citizens. Government agencies have a well-established protocol for interception, which includes sanction and supervision from highly ranked officials in central and state governments, for clearly stated reasons in the national interest,” said the minister.

As the discussion emitted this morning, Congress claimed that the government had been “caught snooping” and should be taken to the Supreme Court.

“Modi Government caught snooping! Appalling but not Surprising! After all, BJP Govt- 1. fought against our right to privacy. 2. Set up a multi-crore surveillance structure until stopped by the Supreme Court. The court must take immediate cognizance and issue notice to BJP government,” tweeted Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala.

In a sharp rejoinder, Mr Prasad reminded the Congress of snooping scandals on its watch.

“Those trying to make political capital out of it need to be gently reminded about the bugging incident in the office of the then eminent Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee during the UPA regime. Also a gentle reminder of the spying over the then Army Chief General VK Singh. These are instances of breach of privacy of highly reputed individuals, for personal whims and fancies of a family,” the minister said.

“China Illegally Acquired Indian Territories..”: India Hits Back On J&K

0

India has hit back at China after it called the separation of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh into two separate Union Territories “unlawful and void”. In a strongly-worded statement the Ministry of External Affairs also called out China for its illegal occupation of parts of Jammu and Kashmir, stating: “We do not expect other countries, including China, to comment on matters that are internal to India, just as India refrains from commenting on the internal issues of other countries.”

At midnight on Wednesday, nearly three months after the center scrapped special status for Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Constitution, it replaced the former state with two Union Territories – Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

China today objected to India’s move, stating the decision to include certain areas “challenged” its sovereignty.

“The Indian government formally declared the enterprise of so-called J&K and Ladakh Union Territories which added some of China’s region into its administrative jurisdiction,” Geng Shuang, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

“China deplores and firmly opposes this. This is unlawful and void and this is not effective in any way and will not change the fact that the area is under Chinese actual control,” he stressed, urging India to “earnestly respect Chinese territorial sovereignty” and “uphold peace and tranquillity in the border areas”.

India has delivered a sharp response, reminding China that it expected other countries to “respect India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity”.

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar visited China in August, shortly after the center announced its decision on Article 370. Mr Jaishankar told his counterpart, Wang Yi, that revocation of special status was an internal matter and did not affect either external boundaries of India or the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

“There was no implication for either the outside borders of India or the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. India is not proposing any further territorial demands. The issue associated with changes is a brief preparation of the Constitution of India and was the individual privilege of the country,” the Foreign Minister told China.

China occupies large tracts of land in the newly-formed Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. It also illegally acquired Indian territories from Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) under the so-called China-Pakistan Boundary Agreement of 1963.

India’s decision on Jammu and Kashmir also drew strong criticism from Pakistan, with Prime Minister Imran Khan raising the issue repeatedly – but unsuccessfully – at global forums like the United Nations, only to be told that the decision on Article 370 is India’s internal matter.

In October, India slammed Pakistan for raising the Jammu and Kashmir issue at the UN, calling out its neighbor for employing “empty rhetoric” to serve a “distorted agenda”.

Delhi T20I will go ahead despite pollution concerns – Ganguly

While the gloom of pollution hangs over the upcoming first T20I between India and Bangladesh in Delhi on November 3, with the air quality level in the capital city plunging into hazardous levels, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is hopeful that the match will not be affected by it. While admitting that better planning is needed when it comes to scheduling matches at certain venues in North India, Ganguly said the current schedule cannot be tinkered with.

“It’s too late to do anything, because a lot of preparations go into matches, tickets, crowds and everything, so it’s not possible to cancel things at the last minute. Fingers crossed. I hope the match gets through. I spoke to the DDCA and they are confident to get through it,” said Ganguly, who spoke to reporters at Eden Gardens on Thursday (October 31).

“I know post-Diwali it’s a bit tough in the North. As I said fingers crossed. It’s too late to change. I hope everything goes fine. I spoke to the groundsmen he says once the sun comes out, it’ll be fine. He was my groundsman in Delhi Capitals. I know him well so he said everything will be fine. So fingers crossed. We want the game to happen,” he said.

Back in December 2017, when Sri Lanka faced India in a Test match in Delhi, high pollution levels forced the game to be halted on several occasions. Several Sri Lankan players complained of breathing difficulty, with some of them taking the field sporting masks. A couple of them even vomited while some needed a supply of oxygen during the second day’s play of the Delhi Test. In November 2016, a Ranji Trophy game between Gujarat and Bengal was abandoned due to high pollution levels.

“Delhi should be worried about the contamination levels rather than the cricket match that happens. Not only players, it’s also for the common people of the capital city as well. A match is a very small thing, I think we can say whether we want to shift the match or not. ,” Gambhir told IANS.

“Yeah, yeah, I think we will do that (consultation),” said Ganguly when asked if the BCCI would work on the scheduling issues. “In the future when we schedule – especially in the northern part of India during the winter – we will have to be a little bit more practical. But we have spoken to the Delhi authorities in the last two days. They’re expecting the match to go through.

“The match was already scheduled so we couldn’t cancel it at the last minute because we came in on October 23. I hope it goes through but post-Diwali is a bit of a difficult time in the North because the winter comes in, there’s a lot of smoke and dust and everything,” Ganguly said.
