Cricketers are not just showcased on the field earning crores of rupees through match fee or endorsements. There are some champion players who are actively involved in social causes and are brand ambassadors of campaigns against evils that gnaw at society.

VVS Laxman, the former Indian batsman and presently occupied himself as a commentator, is in the news now, for his dedication to a demanding social call extending his support for the equality of transgenders.

A lady, Rachna Mudraboyina, who is based in Hyderabad has started a YouTube Channel Transvision with Sonia Shaikh and Anjali Kalyanapu to highlight the problems and myths surrounding the transgender community.

Cricketer, Laxman has endorsed in so many social causes, recently tweeted saying “May there be no discrimination against anyone and may we live with inclusiveness”.

This was well received by everyone and many came in support of his tweet. Batting legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid earlier promoted many such causes. Tendulkar even adopted a village in Andhra Pradesh and is a brand ambassador of Kerala Government’s fight against drugs.

While Rahul Dravid has been an active promoter of drive safely campaign of Karnataka Government among many others. He is also seen on television, campaigning about ill-effects of smoking and Cigarettes.

Google Doodle honors Har Gobind Khorana

Today, the search engine giant ‘Google’ has designed its doodle after the great Indian scientist Har Gobind Khorana, who was awarded Noble Prize in Physiology or Medicine, for decoding the Human Genetic Code along with Robert W Holley and Marshall W Nirenberg.

Khorana was born in a small village, having a population of fewer than 100 residents, in Raipur on January 9^th, 1922. He was one among the five children and the only one who was practically the only literate one in his whole family. With constant support in the form of scholarships and grants, Khorana completed graduated from Punjab University in Lahore with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in 1943 and 1945 respectively. He completed his Ph.D. from University of Liverpool, the UK in 1948 after with the support of Indian government.

It was during Khorana’s time in the US, while he was working at the University of Wisconsin, Khorana and his team made the astonishing breakthrough that fetched the prestigious Nobel Prize in Medicine. Khorana’s team was able to decipher (decode) the human genetic code, and its function in protein synthesis. He is also known for the construction of the first artificial gene, which he got to function in a bacterial cell. Khorana opted for the US citizenship in 1966. He received servaralawards and accolades through out his life. Khorana is survived by his three children at the time of his death on November 9^th, 2011.

It is on the same day, exactly 35 years ago, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao Garu, or just NTR, has taken oath as the Chief Minister of the united Andhra Pradesh. The three letters NTR itself bring a smile on every Telugu person living on this earth. He is an inspiration to millions of Andhra people, who have placed him next to god in their hearts. His first speech as the Chief Minister of the state on this very day, 35 years ago, changed the way politicians interact with the common people.

Even after 2 decades of his demise, he is still remembered for his on-screen performance as a legendary actor, and off-screen as one of the best Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh. Prior to the 2014 AP Assembly elections, many political leaders approached YS Jagan to contest in the elections. Few leaders even left TDP, hoping that YS Jagan would grant them a ticket. But shockingly, Jagan ignored many prominent leaders prior to the 2014 elections. Things do change with time, and at times go against us too. Things are far different, with YSRCP busy in its 2019 elections preparation. Even though YSRCP is ready to offer seats, there is no one willing to contest on behalf of the party.

Meanwhile, local political leaders opinionated that YS Jagan fell into Bharat’s trap. If Bharath wins, he will become MLA, and even if he loses, he will still be financially sound. The young politician clearly trapped YS Jagan.

US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued a statement which confirmed that the Trump administration is going to end H1-B Visa extension. This feared many as it can affect up to 7.5 lakh Indian Techies in the US and even their families could be deported if the bill gets passed.

US Authorities on Tuesday assured Trump administration is not going to move any proposal that forces H-1B visa holders to leave the US much to the respite of Indian Techies. An official informed USCIS isn’t considering a regulatory change that would force H-1B visa holders to leave the nation. This means, there is no issue with extending H-1B visas for a six-year period. Even if there comes any such new law, employers could seek extensions in one-year increments as per section 106(a)-(b) of AC21.

On an average of about 65,000 H-1B visas get issued every year in the general category and another 20,000 visas for applicants wishing to have higher education such as Masters in US Universities. H-1B visa program lets companies hire highly skilled foreign professionals. Trump’s “Buy American, Hire American” campaign has definitely increased insecurities among Indians residing in the US.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended Indian cricket all-rounder Yusuf Pathan for five months on the grounds of a doping violation. An official statement has been issued stating that the All-Rounder had involuntarily ingested a prohibited substance which was found in cough syrups.

Earlier as well, the BCCI ordered the Baroda Cricket Association not to select him for the recently concluded Ranji Trophy giving the same reasons.

Last year, On March 16^th, Yusuf had submitted his urine samples as part of BCCI’s anti-doping test program during a Domestic T20 match. He alleged to have taken the medication containing Terbutaline which was mistakenly prescribed to him. BCCI was satisfied with the explanation given and decided to end the suspension as soon as possible.

Suspension of Yusuf Pathan has been continuing since August 15^th last year. The five-month Ban will end on January 14^th, 2018 which means that the all-rounder will be available for Indian Premier League 11^th edition.

Despite the incident happened like last year August, the information came out about his suspension only recently. Hopefully, this time the cricketer would be more careful about his intake of medications.

Katthi Mahesh recently claimed that Power star Pawan Kalyan was lobbying with Telangana Chief Minister KCR, for the approval of premier shows for ‘Agnyaathavaasi’, and termed Pawan’s meet with KCR as a promotion for the film.

The Apex Court on Tuesday made few modifications in its order and said that it is not mandatory to play national anthem in cinema halls from here after. It must be left to the discretion of the cinema owners.It, however, said the patrons have to mandatorily show respect in case the cinema hall plays the anthem. A person who stands up shows proper respect, it said.

Earlier, on November 30, 2016, a Supreme Court Bench led by Justice Dipak Misra, before he became the Chief Justice of India, directed that “all cinema halls in India shall play the National Anthem before the film starts featuring and all those present in the hall are obliged to stand up to show respect to the National Anthem.” The Apex court justified its decision by saying it is an opportunity to express your love for the motherland. The bench had observed that said the protocol of showing respect and honor to the anthem was rooted in “our national identity, national integrity, and constitutional patriotism”.

However, on Monday, the center asked the Supreme Court to take back the order saying an inter-ministerial committee has been formed for framing guidelines on all aspects pertaining to the playing and singing of the National Anthem.It also said the guidelines will require six months’ time for extensive consultations and once they are ready, the government would issue the requisite circular.

Fire erupts on Trump Tower

Two people were injured as fire erupts in the early morning hours near the top of Trump Tower in midtown Manhattan at the time of city’s workday rush hours, said New York Fire Department on Monday. While U.S. President Donald Trump was in Washington at the time of the incident.

One firefighter was hospitalized with minor injuries and a building worker, who also suffered an injury that was initially described as serious is now treated at the scene and declined further medical attention, said the fire department.

Eric Trump, one of the President’s sons tweeted that it was a small electrical fire in the cooling tower on the roof of the building.

Both the injured persons were given immediate first aid and were removed to safety.

The younger Trump was in full praise for the New York Fire Department who did an incredible job by their presence within few minutes of the incident. He tweeted “The men and women of the FDNY are the true heroes and deserve our most sincere thanks and praise!”

However, investigations will be on, once the cause of fire report is submitted

Chinamay Sagar Maharaj, a 57-year-old-Jain Muni, is popularly known as “Jungle Wala Baba,” who resides deep inside forests, doing his meditation. The Muni is expected to arrive in Shravanabelagola on 28^th January for the Mahamastakabhisheka (head anointing ceremony) of Bahubali statue.

The Muni stays at Chandragiri Hill and meditates at the spot where Chandragupta Maurya, the greatest of Mauryan emperors, accomplished penance several centuries ago. National secretary of the Chinmaya Sagar Charitable Trust, Abhishek Modi says Chinmay Sagar is the only saint in the world today to live in the forest and meditate for the betterment of mankind.

The munis have simple daily rituals to do, he eats once a day and after giving darshan to his disciples he returns to the woods by 4 pm. He gives a brief introduction to whoever meets him, which he was born on August 6, 1961, at Jugul village of Belagavi district and took Deeksha in 1988 on Mahaveer Jayanthi in Madhya Pradesh.

After taking Deeksha, the saint’s spiritual guru advise him to visit various places and hence he traveled barefoot in UP, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Karnataka, among others. Very different from all other religious heads, this Muni does not live in posh ashrams. He says “Forests are open spaces and all are welcome regardless of their religious leanings”.

Tamil Nadu politics have become more interesting than a nail-biting finish between India and Pakistan. After the death of former CM Jayalalitha, the political equations in Tamil Nadu changed rapidly. Rajinikanth announced his entry into politics when everyone ruled him out. His inclusion in TN politics made things more complicated and worse. It was observed that even Kamal Hassan had slightly toned down his voice on social media with Rajini’s entry. The effect of Rajinikanth is mammoth on the state politics.

His fans and Tamil people were taken back after Rajinikanth announced that his party would fight for ‘Spiritual politics’. Many mistook it as ‘religious politics’ and linked Rajinikanth to BJP. Even the presence of ‘Lotus’ flower in the logo that was in the background of Rajinikanth’s political announcement speech sent similar signals to a common man. Though Rajinikanth removed the lotus flower from the logo and came up with ‘Apana Mudra’ and a ‘Snake’ encircling it, the common was left scratching his head to know the difference between spiritual and religious politics. Such is the situation in Tamil Nadu.

People often consider BJP as a synonym for religious politics. The party hardly has any foothold in the state and is desperately trying to make its presence felt. Meanwhile, the ‘spiritual concept’ introduced by Rajinikanth is far from the reality. ‘Spiritual’ politics mean; politics free from the influence of caste and religion. The main goal of spiritual politics is to achieve truthful, clean and straightforward politics.

Will Spiritual Politics work in our society?

We live in a society, where voters take money to vote for a given leader. Who is at fault? Is it the voter who is taking the money? Or the contestant who is offering the money? It is highly debatable. Given this kind of situation, is it really possible for a voter to stand upright? Reject the money he is being offered during the election campaigning? Can he proudly say ‘I’m not for sale’? No. He cannot. If not everyone, at least 95% will not reject the money being offered.

No wonder Rajinikanth speaks about ‘spiritualism’ and ‘spiritual’ politics. He has lived a life of a king, at least from last 2-3 decades. He might have realized happiness is more important than money. But that is not the case of an average working citizen. A common man has to strive for his livelihood each day. Whatever may come, and whatever may happen, he still needs to go to work every day. For many living in the society, happiness and luxury are linked with money. Spiritualism cannot feed him or can get his children educated. Everywhere it is money, and the hunger for money in the society has become so much, that many people are ready to do anything for money; be it a murder, theft or vandalizing.

For such kind of society, can Rajinikanth’s ‘spiritual politics’ mean any sense? Isn’t it foolish to preach about spiritualism to someone who is starving? If this is the way, Rajinikanth has chosen, one can say, he will meet the end of the road very soon.

Is there a way out?

Definitely, there is a way out for the cinema superstar, to become a superstar in politics too. The primary responsibility of any political leader is to concentrate on the rising and prevailing socio-economic problems. Yes, Rajinikanth’s aim and dream of ‘spiritual politics’ is really inspiring and commendable, but not in a day-to-day life. The superstar must come out with various welfare schemes, without burdening the economic resources and at the same time. The change should come in a step-by-step manner. Nothing can be achieved overnight. And one shouldn’t expect the people to come out of their ‘nature’ of being habituated to corruption, bribery and indiscipline in their social lives. It can take a decade, or even a couple of decades, to bring a change what Rajinikanth is aiming to achieve under ‘spiritual politics’. Most of the voters wish for a government that showers subsidies, free usage of public services and welfare schemes that demand the least documentation, and verification. No one is interested in a government that cuts down the subsidies for unqualified people, puts a price on the exploitation of public services, and demands discipline at the social level.

Rajinikanth should be more careful in choosing the path towards his ultimate goal. He should be prepared to face reluctance and resistance, given his political ambitions, from the same people who have made him ‘demi-god’. The path to the destination is more important than his determination and dedication to better the lives of millions in Tamil Nadu. If that is not put into practice, Thalaiva should digest the fact that, someone who is starving, doesn’t give a damn about his ‘spiritual politics’.

In order to clear extra rush of passengers during Pongal, South Central Railway (SCR) will run 84 special trains between Tirupati-Visakhapatnam, Kacheguda-Visakhapatnam, Visakhapatnam-Tirupati, Tirupati-Kacheguda, Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam, Secunderabad-Darbhanga & Hyderabad-Raxual from January 6 to April 3.

In a statement here, the SCR on Wednesday said that Tirupati-Visakhapatnam- Tirupati AC Special Trains (Train Nos 07487/07488) will run 16 services, Kacheguda – Visakhapatnam special Train (07016) via., Guntur, Vijayawada & Eluru will run 4 services, Visakhapatnam Tirupati special Train (07479) via., Eluru will run 4 services, Tirupati – Kacheguda special Train (07146) via.,Vijayawada, Kazipet will run 4 services, Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam- Hyderabad Special Trains (07147/07148) will run 4 services, Secunderabad – Darbhanga Secunderabad Special Trains (07007/07008) will run 34 Services and Hyderabad Raxaul Hyderabad Special Trains (07005/07006) will run 18 Services, the statement added.

1.Tirupati-Visakhapatnam- Tirupati AC Special Trains (16 services):-
Accordingly, Train No. 07487 Tirupati-Visakhapatnam Weekly AC Special will depart Tirupati at 22:30 hrs on 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th January & 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th February, 2018 (Sunday) and arrive Visakhapatnam at 10:45 hrs on the next day.
In the return direction, Train No.07488 Visakhapatnam-Tirupati Weekly AC Special Train will depart Visakhapatnam at 19:20 hrs on 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th January & 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th February, 2018 (Monday) and arrive Tirupati at 08:10 hrs on the next day.
Enroute, these special trains will stop at Renigunta, Nellore, Ongole, Vijayawada, Eluru, Tadepalligudem, Rajahmundry, Samalkot and Duvvada stations in both the directions.

Tammareddy Bharadwaj, the well-known producer, has once again voiced his opinion. In a recent video shared by him on his YouTube channel. Tammareddy went on to criticize media’s double-stand on telecasting content.

In the video, he said, ‘they ask ‘A’ certificate films to be telecasted only after 10 pm. Then why are this news channels telecasting Ghazal Srinivas sexual videos and about anchor Pradeep repeatedly? Don’t they have any social and moral responsibility?

It makes sense until you cover any incident to a limit. The media has been pro-active in covering about Ghazal Srinivas. But to what extent? The coverage could have been called off once Ghazal Srinivas was arrested. But that did not stop there. It has gone overboard, and the news channels started telecasting his sexual adventures on TV. So, according to the TV Channels, can private videos be telecasted through-out the day?

And the same as in the case of Anchor Pradeep. What made the TV channels to run special shows, stories and coverage on him? Don’t they have other important stuff? This is absolutely ridiculous, and shows the media’s desperation for TRP ratings’.

Kona Venkat asked Pawan Kalyan fans to hold their emotions, and not make any comments against Katthi Mahesh until the 15^th of January. Now everyone is eagerly waiting for 15^th January, and what would happen to Mahesh Katthi post that. Few are speculating that Pawan Kalyan himself might respond over Katthi Mahesh’s comments, while others are hoping that Kona Venkat would mediate between Katthi Mahesh and Pawan Kalyan.

It is known that Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Agnyaathavaasi’ movie is gearing up for its release on 10^th January. Given the movie release and the fragile situation in this issue, it looks like Pawan and his team are patiently waiting for the right time.

Punjagutta Police Station is being ranked second best police station in the country. It is located adjacent to the Central Mall in Hyderabad. In a joint survey conducted by the quality council of India and Ministry of Home Affairs, Union Home Ministry has come up with ten police stations that are listed in top 10 based on their quality of policing and citizen-friendly atmosphere.

RS Puram Police Station (B-2) in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore topped the list. These ranks were announced at the All India Conference of Director Generals/Inspector Generals of Police 2107.The Hyderabad Police appreciated the recognition from the Union Ministry and they are proud of their achievement. This wouldn’t have been possible without their collective effort, sincerity, skill and good coordination.

Sara Tendulkar, daughter of the legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar is in the news. She was reportedly harassed by a stalker who claims to have fallen in love with her. The man is a 32-year-old who is a native of Mahishadal in East Midnapore district of West Bengal has been arrested after making an official complaint at Bandra police station.

Debkumar Maity says he is in love with Sara after watching her at the pavilion during a match. He also informs the police that he managed to get the landline number of Sachin and made some 20 calls. So far, I haven’t met her in person, he said.

The Bandra police are likely to charge Debkumar with stalking, passing lusty comments and threatening statements. He is most likely to be produced in Haldia Court before shifting to Mumbai on transit remand. Police have recovered a dairy in his house where the accused mentions that Sara is his wife and even claimed to have married her.

However, family member’s version is different and they say, Debkumar is mentally not sound and is undergoing treatment for the past eight years. He also happens to be a college dropout and unemployed. The medical analysis will be done to determine his mental stability. Now all the mystery is surrounded around, how a mentally unstable person can attain the phone number of Sachin.

Pradyuman Thakur was found with his throat slit in the school’s washroom on September 8 last year. In regard to the case, the session’s court on Monday dismissed the bail plea kept by the juvenile who was accused in the murder of a seven-year-old student of a prominent private school. He has also levied a fine of Rs.21000 on the accused of wasting its time in “baseless” litigation.

The court also ordered the media personnel to use imaginary names used in the judgment to refer to the people or the facts of the face from now onwards.

The session’s court Judge Jasbir Singh Kundu, rejected the bail application of ‘Bholu’, the imaginary name used in judgment for the juvenile accused saying that there was no ground for the default bail of the appellant at this stage.

The court also said it was only to devoid the merits and called for dismissal with costs. He said the appellant knew well that a request to such default mail at this stage is premature and still has still moved the bail taking away valuable 28 days out of the 90 days of the investigating agency.

The court indicated that no one can take the proceedings for a joy ride and the proceedings will be conducted in –camera. The court used “Prince” as the imaginary name for the seven-year-old victim and “Vidyalaya” for his school.

Thirty-two crew members, including 30 Iranians and 2 Bangladeshis have all gone missing when an oil tanker collided with a cargo ship off the coast of east China.The oil tanker is a Panama –registered and is carrying 136000 tons of oil condensate, caught fire minutes after it collided with a Hong Kong-registered bulk freighter at around 8 pm yesterday, said the transport ministry.

The collision happened in water about 160 sea miles east of the Yangtze River’s estuary. A total of 32 went missing and they are identified as crew members of the oil tanker. While the members from the bulk freighter have been rescued, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The authorities of Chinese maritime have dispatched eight vessels for search and rescue. After the coordination of China Maritime Search and Rescue Center, South Korea has dispatched a coast guard ship and a fixed-wing aircraft to back in the rescue operation, the report said.

However, the reasons are yet to be known for the collision, investigation agencies are speculating that the tankers are en route to North Korea. Once the rescue operations complete proper investigation will take place.

He later spoke to Poonam’s mother and assured that he would try to put her career back on track. Holding himself partially responsible for the mishap, Pawan Kalyan paid Poonam’s hospital bills and ensured that she is safe in her mother’s hands before he left the premises.

Cutting the scene to September 11^th, 2017, Poonam Kaur was announced as the brand ambassador for ‘Handloom Industry’ in Andhra Pradesh. It was understood that Pawan Kalyan who promised Poonam Kaur in the past about a promising future, suggested her name to the AP CM Chandrababu, who went into 2014 election with Pawan Kalyan’s support.

Lalu Prasad Yadav’s only Sister Gangotri Devi passed away on Sunday, a day after the RJD chief was sentenced to 3.5 years jail in relation to fodder scam case. Lalu’s wife, Rabri Devi rushed to her sister-in-law’s residence who had died of shock after hearing the news of her brother’s 3.5 years sentence.

Rabri Devi said that the 73-year-old Gangotri had for the past few days been praying continuously for Lalu’s acquittal in the case. Even on Sunday, she spent the entire day praying for her brother’s release, Rabri said.

But she died out of shock as she could not bear hearing the sentence, she told the media. As soon as the news came out, Lalu’s son Tejaswi and Tej Pratap paid floral tributes to their aunt.

In the meantime, a pall of gloom descended in the RJD circles, after the party chief was arrested and now after his sister shocking death, no one seemed to be in a mood to talk and answer to any questions.

Lalu’s sister is four years elder to him and a resident of Chakrapan village in Gopalganj district, Gangotri was currently staying with her son Rudal Yadav. She was later cremated at her native village on Monday. Though the news was communicated to Lalu, he will not be able to attend his sister’s funeral because of imprisonment.
