Arvind Kejriwal has his say on pollution ahead of Ind Vs Ban T20I

0

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday hoped pollution will not affect the India-Bangladesh T20 in the city on November 3, emphasizing that his government has been taking steps such as the odd-even scheme to improve the air quality.

Kejriwal said matches have been played in this season in the national capital and the cricket match, scheduled to be held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, should be played. The prevailing air pollution in Delhi has become a cause for concern. The air quality on Monday, a day after Diwali, plummeted to the “severe” category for the first time this season.

“I hope that pollution will not come in the way of cricket. To reduce pollution, we are also implementing the odd-even scheme from November 4,” Kejriwal told reporters at the Delhi Secretariat. “I have seen that in this season, matches have been played earlier as well. Match should be played in Delhi,” he added.

In December 2017, the Sri Lankan cricket team was left gasping for breath during a Test match at the same venue, then named Feroz Shah Kotla Ground, forcing most of their players to wear protective masks even though some fell ill.

“Look, we have factored in the post-Diwali air contamination in Delhi but considering the match is a week apart, we are confident that the players won’t encounter any health risks,” a senior BCCI official told PTI last week. The official, however, acknowledged there are practical concerns.

The rotation procedure ensured by the BCCI and the touring route for the visiting team urged the BCCI to record the first match of the tour in Delhi, and they now believe the city’s poor air condition doesn’t enhance an issue during the night-time game.

According to the Ministry of Earth Sciences’ air quality monitor, SAFAR, levels of PM2.5 — tiny particulate matter of diameter 2.5 or less than 2.5 microns that can enter deep into the lungs — reached as high as 735 at Delhi University on Monday.

Delhi’s overall air condition index attained at 463 at 11.30 am, according to the System of Air Condition and Weather Forecasting And Research.

The AQI at Pusa, Lodhi Road, Airport Terminal T3, Noida, Mathura Road, Ayanagar, IIT Delhi, Dhirpur, and Chandni Chowk was 480, 436, 460, 668, 413, 477, 483, 553 and 466, respectively.

2020 iPhone Models to Sport 120Hz Refresh Rate Displays: Report

0

Apple is reportedly looking to bring 120Hz display panels on next year’s iPhone series. The 120Hz refresh rate display panel will provide an improved display experience, and 2020 iPhone models will also have OLED panels alongside to bring the best displays in the market. Currently, Apple’s ProMotion iPad Pro devices support 120Hz display although they sport an LCD panel.

This will be the first time Apple brings 120Hz refresh rate displays to its iPhone lineup. Currently, the Asus ROG Phone 2 is one of the few smartphones to support a 120Hz display refresh rate.

DigiTimes reports that Apple is looking to bring a 120Hz refresh rate to its 2020 iPhone lineup. While the 120Hz screen refresh rate will help smoothen the display experience, the ProMotion display tech used in the iPad Pro models is also claimed to have better responsiveness i.e., the display’s ability to understand touch and gestures and translate them into on-screen motion. The 120Hz refresh rate will enable a smoother touchscreen experience, scrolling and swiping feeling a lot more fluid.

All iPhone models to date have had a 60Hz display refresh rate, so doubling up this number will prove to be significant. The 10.5-inch iPad Pro and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro launched in 2017 were the first Apple products to get a 120Hz refresh rate.

Currently, many phones including Pixel 4 and the OnePlus 7T offer a 90Hz refresh rate. The report cites industry observers to state that refresh rates of smartphone panels used in the 5G era are likely to be upgraded to 90Hz or even 120Hz from the current 60Hz as displays with higher refresh rates will greatly enhance user experience.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said in one of his research notes that 2020 iPhone models will feature a major design change. The next-generation iPhones will include a metal frame while still using glass on the front as well as on the back. The metal frame surface will resemble the design on the iPhone 4. The 2020 iPhones are expected to have 5G support on board.

Chidambaram, In Custody, Taken To AIIMS After Stomach Ache Complaint

0

P Chidambaram was taken to Delhi’s premier AIIMS hospital this evening after he complained of a stomach ache. The former Finance Minister is in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate in the INX Media case. He was later discharged and taken back to the investigating agency’s office.

Mr Chidambaram, during a court hearing last week, requested two-day bail so that he could go to Hyderabad for treatment of his acute stomach pain. He had said that his custody could continue after the treatment.

The Enforcement Directorate, however, said the 74-year-old Congress leader could be taken to AIIMS or All India Institute of Medical Science for any health needs.

This morning, Mr Chidambaram was taken to the RML hospital. After he complained of a stomach ache, he was taken in the evening to AIIMS.

Mr Chidambaram is in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate till October 30.

He was shifted from the Tihar jail to the agency’s custody earlier this month.

The Enforcement Directorate had asked for seven-day custodial interrogation of Mr Chidambaram.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Enforcement Directorate, had opposed the request and said it would be a serious miscarriage of justice if the agency’s investigation was curtailed.

Mr Mehta told the court that documentary evidence had surfaced which showed Mr Chidambaram’s links with money laundering. Mr Mehta told the court that there were glaring discrepancies between the statements of witnesses, co-conspirators and Mr Chidambaram and therefore he needs to be confronted with witnesses and other evidence.

Mr Chidambaram, arrested by the CBI on August 21, had been in judicial custody in Tihar jail until a fortnight ago, when he was handed over to the Enforcement Directorate.

The INX Media case includes accusations that Mr Chidambaram, as the Finance Minister of the nation, aided foreign funding for the organization INX Media – co-founded by Peter and Indrani Mukherjea in the year 2007 and his son Karti obtained kickbacks for it.

Mr. Chidambaram, Karti Chidambaram and 13 others including senior bureaucrats and private companies have been accused in a CBI charge sheet of causing losses to the government. The charge-sheet alleges the Chidambaram’s received Rs. 9.96 lakh as bribes.

Peter Mukerjea is also an accused but Indrani Mukerjea, who has turned approver against Mr Chidambaram, does not face charges. Both Peter and Indrani Mukerjea are currently in jail in connection with the murder of Indrani’s daughter Sheena Bora.

“Should Give Clear View Of Governance Priorities”: PM Modi

0

A group of MPs from the European Union, ahead of its visit to Jammu and Kashmir, today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said their visit “should give them a clear picture of the development and governance preferences of the area”.

Twenty-seven EU MPs will fly tomorrow to Jammu and Kashmir, where restrictions are in place since the center’s decision to end special status to the state under Article 370 and split it into two union territories.

Sources said the group met PM Modi as well as National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
In a communique, the PM’s office said, “Prime Minister, while welcoming the delegation to India, expressed the hope that they have a fruitful visit to various parts of the country, including to Jammu and Kashmir. Their visit to J&K should give the delegation a more reliable perception of the social and religious differences of the region of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh; apart from providing them a fair sense of the development and governance preferences of the area.”

Without naming Pakistan, PM Modi told the EU lawmakers that urgent action was required against all those who support or sponsor terror activities and use terrorism as a state policy.

Last week, a group of US lawmakers expressed concern about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir following the Centre’s move to end the state’s special granted under the Constitution and bifurcate it into two union territories.

Alice Wells, the Acting US Assistant Secretary of State, had said the US State Department had “raised concerns with the Indian government regarding the detentions of residents and political leaders, including three previous Chief Ministers of J&K”.

“We have urged Indian authorities to respect human rights and restore full access to services, including internet and mobile networks,” she said at the meeting held last week.
The US had earlier agreed that the government’s move in Jammu and Kashmir was an internal matter of India. The Centre had also assured the international community that it was taking steps to normalize the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Congress’s Jairam Ramesh hit out at the government for allowing the European lawmakers to visit Jammu and Kashmir.

Following the news of the visit, Iltija Javed, the daughter of detained Kashmiri leader Mehbooba Mufti, tweeted: “Hope they get a chance to speak to the people, local media, doctors and civil society members. The iron curtain between Kashmir & the world needs to be lifted and GOI must be held accountable for pushing J&K into turmoil”.

A former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Ms Mufti has been under detention since the government’s announcement of the move to end Kashmir’s special status in August. Two other former Chief Ministers of the state – 83-year-old Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah – are under detention as well.

The detention of more than 400 political leaders was a part of the Centre’s security measures following the announcement to prevent a backlash in Jammu and Kashmir. Over the last weeks, much of the restrictions have been lifted. Among other things, phone services – both landline and post-paid cellphone – have been restored, though cellphone internet is still out.

Bangladesh Cricket Chief Alleges “Conspiracy To Sabotage India Tour”

0

Bangladesh cricket’s turmoil just doesn’t seem to end. Ever since Test and T20I captain Shakib Al Hasan announced that the team is going on strike last on October 21, things have become worse for the Bangladesh players and the national cricket board. The players called off the strike late on Wednesday, but that was not the end of their troubles.

There was the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan’s outburst at Mehidy Hasan during a team meeting, before a top official said the BCB would sue Shakib. And then, senior batsman Tamim Iqbal pulled out of the team’s tour of India.

In the latest development in the saga, Nazmul Hassan has said that there is a conspiracy to sabotage the four-week-long tour of India.

“You people (media) haven’t yet seen anything about the India tour. Just wait and watch. If I am saying that I had specific information that this was a conspiracy to sabotage India tour, then you should believe me,” he was quoted as saying to Bangladesh daily “Prothom Aalo” by news agency PTI.

It was Tamim Iqbal’s decision to pull out of the India tour that tipped him off to the alleged conspiracy, he said.

“Tamim had initially told me that he will only skip the second Test (in Kolkata from November 22-26) for the birth of his second child. However, after the meeting with players, Tamim comes to my room and says he wants to opt-out of the whole tour. I asked him ‘why so?’ But he simply said he won’t go,” Hassan explained.

“Now after this, I won’t be surprised if I find that someone else pulls out at the eleventh hour when we would be left with no other options. I have called Shakib to have a chat. Now if he also pulls out, where do I even find a captain? I might have to change the whole combination. What do I even do with these players,” he said.

“I still can’t believe it. I speak to them every day. They didn’t even intimate me before calling a strike. I feel that it was a mistake on my part to have agreed to their demands. I should have never done that,” Hassan lamented.

“I should have told the players, ‘Unless you call off strike, we will not sit with you guys across the negotiation table.’ Speaking to various member boards, I felt that this should have been our approach but the media also created pressure on us,” the BCB President added.

Bangladesh are scheduled to play three T20Is and two Tests against India, with the first T20I scheduled to be played on November 3 in Delhi.

Mi Note 10, Note 10 Pro may launch soon, phones get certified in Thailand and Russia

0

Xiaomi could be bringing back the Mi Note series from the dead. After the Mi Note 3 in 2017, Xiaomi is said to launch the Mi Note 10 and Mi Note 10 Pro this year. It has been reported a few times in recent past that the company is looking to launch the Mi Note 10 series soon despite company CEO Lei Jun claiming there were no plans for the Mi Note in 2019. Now, the Mi Note 10 and Note 10 Pro have been certified in Thailand and Russia, suggesting imminent launch.

The Mi Note 10 and Mi Note 10 Pro received certifications by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) in Thailand and the EEC in Russia, according to a tweet by tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore. This suggests the phones will launch soon in South Asian and European markets. The Mi Note 10 has been listed with model number M1910F4G, while the Mi Note 10 Pro carries the model number M1910F4S.

Xiaomi has so far been quiet about the Mi Note 10 series. The company has not teased its arrival yet, so it doesn’t look like the phones will launch in October despite a tip by Ice Universe. Last week, a leaked image of the Mi Note 10’s retail box seemingly confirmed the existence of the phone.

It is unclear whether the Mi Note 10 and Mi Note 10 Pro are mid-range or flagship devices. According to some rumours, the Mi Note 10 phones will come with the Snapdragon 855+ chipset and a 120Hz display, but one should consider these leaks with a pinch of salt. To recall, the Mi Note 3 that was launched in 2017 offered a mid-range Snapdragon 660 SoC. As a Note device, the Mi Note 10 and Note 10 Pro are expected to be big phones with large displays. We should know more about the Mi Note 10 series in the days to come.

Mitchell Starc to miss second T20I against Sri Lanka

0

Australia will head into the second fixture of the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka on Wednesday (October 30) without Mitchell Starc, who will be away to attend his brother’s wedding. In Starc’s absence, Billy Stanlake and Sean Abbott will be in a two-way tussle for the vacant spot in the second game at the Gabba.

Both Abbott and Stanlake come into the series with identical outings in the Marsh One-Day cup, picking five wickets each in as many fixtures for New South Wales and Queensland, with the former finishing with a better average and economy rate.

Stanlake, however, has been part of the Australia squad more recently and has made a comeback from injury that saw him miss a T20 Blast stint with Derbyshire in July-August this year. Abbott, who has played one ODI and one T20I for Australia back in 2014, wasn’t picked initially but came in as a replacement for the injured Andrew Tye.

Having started off their home summer in emphatic style with a 134-run win in the first T20I, Australia will head into the second fixture with the opportunity to pocket the series even before it gets to the last fixture.

Sena Plays Hardball with BJP in Maharashtra, Shah Likely to Meet Uddhav Thackeray on Oct 30

0

BJP president Amit Shah might meet Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on October 30 after visiting a gathering of the BJP’s recently elected MLAs to select the leader of the House in Mumbai.

Shah’s conference with Thackeray, if it occurs, allows large political consequence given the Sena’s desire for equal partition of power in the next government in imitation of the senior ally’s weakened tally.

According to sources, Sena’s equal distribution of power causes chief ministership for Thackeray’s son Aaditya Thackeray, a first-time MLA.

“A conference of the BJP legislative party will take place in Mumbai on October 30. Our national president Amit Shah and leader Saroj Pandey will also be present at the meeting,” BJP MLC Girish Vyas said. “After the meeting, Shah may visit Uddhav Thackeray.”

Thackeray had made it obvious that his party would not know the obstacles of the BJP every time.

When results of the elections were being declared on October 24, Thackeray had prompted the BJP of the 50:50 formula accepted upon” between himself, Shah and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

“I cannot support the BJP every time. I want to mention the BJP about the method which was worked out in the presence of Amit Shah,” Thackeray had said.

On Saturday, the Sena asked a composed promise from the BJP that it will achieve the formula for equal sharing of power. Thackeray had told MLAs of his party that though “other options” were open for him, he didn’t want to examine them given that the support of the BJP and the Sena is connected by the “Hindutva beliefs.”

Shiv Sena has achieved 56 seats, where seven less than in 2014, in the 288-member House. The Sena has more support now as the BJP, whose poll got down from 122 in 2014 to 105, requires it more to traverse the midway mark of 144.
