In recent years, India has emerged as one of the largest buyers of defense equipment. The defense ministry last week announced that it would be buying 240 precision-guided bombs at a cost of Rs. 1254 crore from Russia’s Rosoboron export. These bombs are KAB-1500 laser guided and will be obtained for Sukhoi -30MKI fighter jets.

This procurement will address the deficiency of Precision Guided Munitions in the IAF arsenal, apart from enhancing the offensive capabilities of the IAF. Defense ministry also has plans to buy 131 Barak Missiles and other related equipment from Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems at a cost of Rs. 460 crore.

These bombs are designed to destroy ground targets such as railway lines, ammunition depots, bridges, military facilities, and ships. The bomb warhead weighs 1100 kgs. It has the feature of folding fins that allow it to manoeuvre while being guided to the target.

Unlike normal bombs, these can be guided by being dropper so that it can find the target exactly. These help to avoid risks of coming under direct contact with the enemy. The bombs can deviate from the vertical path to the target by as much as 5 miles allowing the aircraft to operate from distance.

Pakistan’s opposition leader and Ex-cricketer Imran Khan on Sunday said that he had proposed marriage to a lady who is supposed to be a faith healer. He otherwise denied reports of his secret marriage with her.

In a statement given by Khan’s spokesperson, Imran Khan had proposed marriage to Bushra Maneka, who has “asked for time to make a final decision after consulting her family that includes her children”.

The notification said, “It is sad to see the extremely private and sensitive matter be made the subject of inaccurate story leading to all manner of public speculation”, it also added that it was “regrettable” the story was reported as it involves “a very private person who is not in public life”.

The spokesperson has said that it has put the burden on the children of Maneka and Khan who have had to learn of such a private and intimate issue from media”.

Imran Khan was in touch with Maneka for spiritual guidance, since two years that led to the marriage proposal. If this proposal is accepted, this would be his third marriage.

He first tied the knot with Jemima Goldsmith on May 16, 1995, that ended in divorce after nine years on June 22, 2004. While, his second marriage was with Reham, who was a TV anchor, but continued only for 10 months.

Incidentally, 315 people have been reported to have lost their lives in mishaps on AP roads due to heavy dense foggy mornings. It is becoming dangerous proposition for students going for special classes this winter season with a series of road accidents occurring in the early hours.The heavy dense fog has been troubling drivers to get a clear view of the road.

Low visibility, driving speed and absence of warning signs on the roads are the main causes of fog-related accidents. On an average day, thick mists hang in the air until 8 am, which is when people are unable to view vehicles on the road. As per reports, nearly 22,241 fog-related road accidents were registered in the country in 2016 resulting in the death of 10,000 people. 1100 of these mishaps happened on roads in AP, killing 315 people.

Driver B.Jayararaju said that earlier they used to get training in different weather conditions. Now they don’t have skills to drive in severe weather conditions and hence proceed with caution. While transport industry exerts too says that biggest public transport APSRTC did not offer weather-related training to its drivers. Also, ANU engineering college professor Dr. Srinivasa Reddy said that the normal road symbol signs are not visible during cold winter days, hence electronic signboards must be put on the roads to alert drivers of the conditions.

The woman did not show any sign of recovery to the treatment eventually the doctors decided to conduct a keyhole surgery which is the only option left in front of them. The procedure led to the detection of pieces of plastic packaging coming from a sachet of Heinz tomato ketchup piercing the woman’s intestine.

For Doctors, this was said to be one of the rare cases where the plastic packaging swallowed by a person impersonating symptoms of the serious ailment which affects at least 115000 people in the United Kingdom alone.

Medical science is finding answers to several diseases and is coming up with treatment for more, sometimes practitioners can go wrong in identifying the exact problem. While there are cases which are seemingly minor issues turning out to be major ailments have been also reported. A Picnic trip by four engineering students of a private college at Bhogapuram in West Godavari district was found them dead in a tank near the village. According to the police, the incident happened on Saturday but only came to light on Sunday.

As per the Eluru superintendent of Police (DSP) K. Eswara Rao, the four students- K.Harikrishnam Raju, 21, of Kothavuru, G.Vijaya Sankar, 21, of Chintalapudi village, A.S.K. Parasuram, 21, of Kothuru village and Kota Sai, 19, of Patachintalapudi village, went to Goa Gardens, near Vatluru tank in Bhogapuram.

Initially, three of them stepped into the tank for a dip. They lost their footing and went down in the water and then the fourth student Kota Sai made an attempt to help them out drowned in the lake. Later the victim’s bags, clothes and identity cards were collected from the site in the garden. As per police investigations, they are suspecting the victims might have consumed liquor before going into the lake.

DSP Eswara Rao said that a man from the village who went to the tank for nature’s call on Sunday morning observed some footwear and clothes on the banks and informed the police. The police found bags containing college books, identity cards, lunch boxes, liquor bottles and few other items near the spot.

Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, gave a piece of advice to one and all on health. He asked everyone to exercise every day at least for an hour and keep the hospitals at bay. He also asked to ease the pressures of life and lift one’s spirits.

Chief minister Naidu, who was present at the third Amaravati Marathon in the capital on Sunday from the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium, here, said many such marathons and sports would be organized in the state since they bring health, wealth and fame to people. He was there as chief guest who flagged the program.

On Sunday morning around 7500 people took part in the 5k, 10k and Half Marathon run. The enthusiastic participants are from different age groups ranging from four years to 70 years.

Mr. Naidu mentioned that next year, this marathon would be an international event. He also appreciated Managing director and ex-officio secretary of the AP State Housing Corporation, Kantilal Dande, who also partook in the event.

Naidu reminded that he had started the Hyderabad Marathon 23 years ago, which has now become a major event.

Four international flights were forced to make an emergency landing due to heavy fog on the Sunday morning at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. These four flights were flying from Saudi Arabia to Delhi, Jeddah to Lucknow, Singapore to Delhi and Dubai to Bangladesh.

These flights were forced to make an emergency landing in the northern part of India was totally covered with snow and heavy fog.

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is covered under a blanket of fog. An official said that the airport had CAT-IIIA system which assisted the landing and taking off of the aircraft even at foggy conditions.

Lalu gets 3.5 years jail

Former Chief Minister of Bihar, Lalu Prasad Yadav has been sentenced 3.5 years in jail and fined him 5 lakh rupees in the case relating to fodder scam. A special CBI court, which took up the case, delivered the verdict in Ranchi, Jharkhand, on Saturday. There were 15 convicts that included Lalu as well, in the Rs.950 crore scandal of mid-1990 under his government. He incidentally was the chief minister of one of the most penniless states in the country.

Lalu’s counsel is trying for bail, but there is no possibility as the jail sentence is for more than three years. There are six more cases attached to the scam and Saturday’s verdict related to only one of them, which is the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs.89.27 lakh from Deoghar Treasury between 1991 and 1994 when Lalu was chief minister.

Among the convicts, seven others were also sentenced to a similar jail term and fine as Lalu. Last year on December 23rd, Lalu was convicted by the same court and has been in Birsa Munda prison since then. Earlier, RJD leaders and Lalu’s lawyers had appealed for leniency in sentencing him, quoting his poor health. Hope, more Justice prevails in all cases relating to Lalu.

He is one of the greatest finds in world cricket. He had fans all over the world apart from his country. He was a stylish left-handed batsman and a great stroke player. It was a treat for any cricket fan to watch him play. He is none other than Sanath Jayasuriya. He is well known for his explosive batting and he played a very key role during Sri Lanka’s 1996 World Cup victory which is in the memory of many till date.

He was not in the limelight or in public glare post his retirement. But recently few people who saw him were in dismay and disbelief. The star batsman was seen taking the help of crutches to walk. It is understood that Jayasuriya has been suffering from a knee injury for a while now. The 48-year-old- batsman will be traveling to Melbourne in Australia for a surgery. He will need minimum one months to recover post the operation. Till then, he will under observation.

As a batsman, his career records were: In test matches, he scored 6,973 runs and took 98 wickets. In ODI’s he made 13,430 runs and took 323 wickets. He played in T20’s as well, where he made 629 runs and took 19 wickets.We along with all his fans wish Jayasuriya a speedy recovery.

Yogi Government Paints Haj Committee wall Saffron

BJP Government, recently painted the boundary wall of the Uttar Pradesh State Haj Committee Office in saffron sparked a huge uproar. This place is located close to the Headquarters and UP Secretariat Lok Bhavan.

However, UP Haj Minister Mohsin Raza said, people should not make controversy out of nothing. He said the Haj Committee Office looks even more beautiful in Saffron. ‘As the opposition party has nothing to complain against the government, they take up these small things, he opined.

Uttar Pradesh State Haj Committee Office assists the pilgrimage to Mecca. Center for Objective Research and Development’s Lucknow Director Athar Hussain alleged that BJP is famous for doing such things keeping a clear political agenda. But he, however, clarified that there is importance to any specific color in Islam.

However, Muslim Clerics raised objections about the painting of Haj Office in saffron as it is closely associated with BJP and Hinduism.

It is still not clear, why there should be any problem with painting a particular and that too to an office wall. It is not considered to be hurting sentiments of a particular religion. There are so many things in this country to look at to raise objections and make corrections.
