India A will first play two tour games and three one-day games before finishing the tour with two four-day games. While Shubman Gill has been named skipper for the two tour games and the three one-dayers, Hanuma Vihari will lead the side in the four-day matches. Dhawan, Bumrah return from injuries; Rohit rested for SL T20Is

0

Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and opener Shikhar Dhawan have been drafted back into the India squad for the two upcoming home series – three T20Is vs Sri Lanka (from January 5) and three ODIs against Australia (from January 14). Rohit Sharma, who has enjoyed a phenomenal 2019 across all formats, has been afforded rest in the first series of the new year – against Sri Lanka.

A lower-back stress fracture has kept Bumrah out of action since the completion of India’s tour of West Indies in August, where he starred with 13 wickets in two Tests. He missed the home assignments against South Africa and Bangladesh – which involved Tests and T20Is. After a lengthy rehabilitation, Bumrah is now back to full fitness and even bowled in the nets before India’s ODI against West Indies in Visakhapatnam.

Dhawan, who had missed more than half of the 2019 World Cup with a thumb injury, returned to action in West Indies and played the home series against Bangladesh too before suffering another setback last month. Dhawan suffered a deep cut to his knee while putting in a full-length dive to get back to the crease in a Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament and needed multiple stitches. He has now recovered from that layoff, returning to both the T20I and the ODI sides.

While Dhawan takes Rohit’s spot in the T20I squad, Bumrah walks in, in place of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who missed the West Indies ODIs because of a groin injury. In the ODI squad, Dhawan’s returns mean Mayank Agarwal – who came in as the left-hander’s replacement against West Indies – goes out.

Bumrah comes in for Deepak Chahar, who has now been sidelined until April 2020 due to a stress fracture to his lower back. Kedar Jadhav, who scored 40, 16* and 9 in the games against West Indies, has retained his place in the squad.

Squad for Australia ODIs V Kohli (Capt), R Sharma (vc), S Dhawan, KL Rahul, S Iyer, M Pandey, K Jadhav, R Pant (wk), S Dube, R Jadeja, Y Chahal, K Yadav, N Saini, J Bumrah, S Thakur, Mohd. Shami

Ruler movie three days box office collection report

0

Ruler is one of the latest movies at the Tollywood box-office. Balakrishna Nandamuri played the lead role in the film while Sonali Chauhan and Vedhika played the heroines. KS Ravi Kumar directed the project and C Kalyan produced it. The trade buzz reveals that the movie is inching towards receiving huge losses.

Since the biopic on NTR, made by Balakrishna failed at the box-office, his market worsened and it is having an impact on Ruler now too. The expectations of the audiences and fans are not reached and there is no way that the movie is going to recover the investments, says the trade experts.

Although the film made a decent sum on the first day of the release, there is no growth further. The movie collected only 5 crores so far and it is slowed down now during the weekend.

Clinical Pakistan take series with comprehensive win

0

It took just 16 balls for Pakistan to wrap up the proceedings on Day 5, as they clinched the second Test and also sealed the series versus Sri Lanka 1-0. Naseem Shah, the tearaway quick, ripped through the lower order to bag his maiden five-for in Tests, with the tourists slipping to a 263-run loss.

Sri Lanka began the day at 212/7, with Oshada Fernando holding the fort. However, the very first ball of the day’s play, Naseem dismissed Lasith Embuldeniya with a brute of a bumper. The lower-order batsman could only glove it to the ‘keeper. The on-field decision was not out but reversed by Pakistan via the review system. Yasir Shah, the veteran spinner, then dislodged the centurion Oshada, with the opener guiding one to slip.

In the very next over, Naseem aptly provided the finishing touches by dislodging Vishwa Fernando LBW. The tailender took the review but to no avail. Naseem became the youngest cricketer to bag a five-for in Tests. The pacer was unlucky not to have picked up wickets in the first innings, but his efforts were rewarded in the second. On the other hand, Sri Lanka lost their last four wickets without adding a single run.

The foundation for Pakistan’s victory was laid by Shan Masood, Abid Ali, Babar Azam, and Azhar Ali – who all notched up tons in the second innings to turn the match around. The hosts had found themselves in a bit of trouble after Sri Lanka took a first-innings lead of 80. However, Pakistan’s mainstays in the batting order crunched hundreds in the second innings to pilot the side to 555 for 3 declared.

Brief scores: Pakistan 191 (A Shafiq 63; L Kumara 4-49) and 555/3 declared. (A Ali 174, S Masood 135, A Ali 118, B Azam 100*; L Kumara 2-139) lead Sri Lanka 271 (D Chandimal 74; S Afridi 5-77) and 212 (O Fernando 102; N Shah 5-31) by 263 runs.

Kieron Pollard impresses as captain for West Indies

0

There’s so much clarity that comes to West Indies with Pollard in charge. He kicked off the India leg with a 3-0 ODI series win over Afghanistan, a series which could have been “competitive” if a West Indies team with scrambled heads had turned up. But under Pollard, you see definitive roles assigned to different players. It was on display in the ODI series against India which Pollard had termed “more important right now than World T20” even before it had started. He even scored his first fifty as captain in Cuttack, a whirlwind knock of 74 not out off 51, suggesting how he continues to be relevant for West Indies even with the bat.

Kieron Pollard impresses as captain for West Indies

Both Pollard and Phil Simmons talked about a “plan” and “direction” for the team, and how a loss in India wasn’t going to offset the ground they had covered. With Dwayne Bravo returning to the international fold, albeit in the T20I format, you can see how Pollard’s trust network is starting to affect already.
