AP Secretariat – A Blend Of Kalankari Designs, Modern Architecture, And Engineering Marvel

Designs For AP Secretariat Finalised

AP Secretariat design has been finalized. Norman Foster and Partners Company designed the AP Secretariat. The secretariat complex will comprise of 5 main skyscrapers and other buildings around the skyscrapers.

Talking about the design, it will include a blend of Kalankari designs, and modern architecture. The skyscrapers will be constructed using the ‘Diagrid’ framework of construction. Diagrid is an acronym for Diagonal Grid. In Diagrid constructions, the intersecting metal beams will be intersecting with each other, forming diagonal shapes. This not only minimizes the use of steel, but also removes the need for columns, thereby enabling construction of column-free expanses of roofing, and interiors.

 

In Diagrid constructions, only the core; comprising of elevators, staircases, and offices, will be having columns. The complete structure will stand on the exterior Diagrid construction.Diagrid will be constructed of high-grade steel, having light weight and high tensile strength. The interior structure of the Diagrid will comprise of polygonal grid configurations, resembling locally available Kalankari designs. This is the first India structures of this kind, and scale is being constructed in India. The exterior diagonal structures will be manufactured somewhere else and will be assembled at the construction site.

 

The 5 Skyscrapers 

As already mentioned there would be 5 skyscrapers, and various other buildings as a part of the AP Secretariat. Following is the description of the skyscrapers:

  1. Total Number of Skyscrapers – 5
  2. One Chief Minister Tower & 4 Other Towers
  3. Height of CM Tower – 207 meters
  4. Height of each tower – 180 meters
  5. Total built up area – 40, 00, 000 sq. feet

Chief Minister’s tower – 1 ( 46 Floors) (with Helipad)

  • 44th – 46th Floors (3) – Exclusively for Chief Minister
  • 42nd – 45th Floors (3) – For AP Chief Secretary
  • Each tower will be connected through a skyway bridge that is constructed at 9mts above the ground level. These bridges will connect the 3-story buildings to the skyscraper.
  • Employees and officials will use these skyway bridges to move between the skyscrapers and the 3-story buildings.  

3-story buildings alongside the skyscrapers:

There will be a total of nine 3-story buildings around the 5 skyscrapers. Each tower is connected through the skyway bridge to three 3-story buildings. These buildings will host employees, along with various facilities and amenities for tourists. Food courts will be present in these buildings.  

What’s more interesting in the construction is the inclusion of ‘Viewing point’ of Paalavagu. Three skyscrapers (including the Chief Minister’s Tower) are built on side of the Paalavagu, and the other two are built on the opposite side. A skywalk bridge, much larger in length, will be connecting two 3-story buildings present on either side of the Paalavagu. There are plans to develop a viewing point just above the Paalavagu.

Sources close to the AP Government confirmed that the idea of ‘viewpoint’ is inspired by the Marian Barrage, Singapore. It would at least take 3-4 years for the complete construction of the AP Secretariat.

The Telangana Assembly Budget Sessions have concluded with today. After functioning for 13 days, the Telangana Assembly has been adjourned indefinitely. On a whole, the TS Assembly carried its business for 60 hours and 58 minutes. During the sessions, the Telangana State government introduced the 2018 – 2019 Telangana State Budget, for the fourth time since the state’s formation.

During the sessions, apart from Budget discussions and other government programs, 11 new bills have been passed in the assembly. On the final day i.e., Panchayat Raj bill has been passed without any corrections or amendments. Meanwhile, many political analysts believe that Telangana Assembly has fared well than the Indian Parliament itself.

‘We know the scenes in Lok Sabha. In the Telangana Assembly, the opposition is completely suspended. Putting aside, who is correct and who is wrong, the TRS government managed to pass 11 key bills that contribute to the growth of the state. But that isn’t the case in Lok Sabha. Except for ‘forcibly’ passing the bills, the parliament hasn’t been functioning’, said a political analyst.

Indigo flight 6E 7117 is scheduled to fly from Tirupathi Airport at 08:55 pm and reach Hyderabad RGIA (Rajiv Gandhi International Airport) at 10:30 pm. As the flight reached the premises of the RGAI, the pilot received the permission from the command centre to land the flight.

During its landing procedure, the flight tires suddenly burst, giving rise to flames. Though the flames were not serious, the tire burst incident gave nightmare to everyone on the flight. With the tires bursting, the aircraft was stranded on the runway. The firemen immediately rushed to the spot and put off the small fire. The pilot immediately informed the passengers about the incident.

Everyone in the aircraft is reportedly safe, and no one suffered any injuries. YSRCP MLA (and former heroine) Roja was also in the flight at the time of the incident. She took to social media, thanking Lord Venkateshwara, the major deity in Tirupathi for saving her life, and the people on board the aircraft. 77 people were on board at the time of the mishap.

The police seized counterfeit currency worth Rs 6.77 crores between January 2017 and February 2018. Out of this, Rs 2.31 crores have been seized in Gujarat, and Rs 1.23 crores have been seized in Mizoram.

Income Tax Department Freezes Bank Accounts Of Cognizant

In what could be termed as the biggest shock after the Facebook Data leak controversy, the bank accounts of the IT giant Cognizant (American MNC) have been frozen by Income Tax officials.

‘Few bank accounts of Cognizant has been frozen today. The company failed to pay Rs 2,500 crores of DDT (Dividend Distribution Tax) to the government as per the Income Tax Act. The amount is due for the FY 2016 – 2017. Within few days, the FY 2018-2019 is about to begin.

The DDT issue arose after Cognizant purchased its own shares from a shareholder in May 2016. Both the parties came to a compromise. An American Company and a Mauritius company were holding the shares previously with 46% and 54% of shares respectively.

It deduced 10% as a tax on the remittance to the US Company, but did not deduct the same on remittance to the Mauritius Company’, said an IT official.Reacting on this, Cognizant issue a press note. ‘Until the further hearing, the HC ordered the IT Dept. not to take further actions. Cognizant has paid all applicable taxes on the transaction. The IT Department’s actions are without merit and contrary to law’.Only time can tell whether this is a politically motivated attack or a genuine one.

When BJP IT Cell Head Amit Malviya tweeted Karnataka Assembly Elections polling date, and result date, everyone was shocked. Along with common citizens, even politicians wondered how did he manage to get such sensitive information. Things became more interesting after the ECI (Election Commission of India) came up with the same dates: Polling on May 12, and results on May 15.

In the press meet held by ECI to announce the Karnataka Assembly Elections dates, the Chief Election Commissioner Om Prakash Rawat also pointed out the tweet made by Amit Malviya and assured strict actions at all levels. In this context, a senior official from ECI confirmed that a special committee has been directed to probe this matter.

‘The investigation probe is underway with CBI and IT Dept. A special committee comprising of senior officials has been asked to submit the report regarding the leak. We are expected to receive the report in a week’s time’, said the official.It looks like Amit Malviya is in grave trouble with the ECI leak.
