Airtel Brings Rs. 179 Prepaid Recharge Plan

0

Airtel has launched the Rs. 179 prepaid recharge plan with life insurance cover of Rs. 2 lakhs. The telco has partnered with Bharti AXA Life Insurance to offer the bundled insurance benefit to consumers. This is notably not the first time when Airtel is offering life insurance cover with its prepaid recharge plan. Earlier this month, the New Delhi-based operator brought the Rs. 279 prepaid plan with Rs. 4 lakh insurance cover from HDFC Life. That plan also included access to a four-week course from Shaw Academy.

The Rs. 179 Airtel prepaid recharge plan brings unlimited voice calling alongside 2GB high-speed data and 300 SMS messages for 28 days. It also includes additional benefits such as access to Wynk Music and Airtel Xstream App Premium with the ability to watch content from platforms such as Hooq, Zee5 as well as more than 370 live TV channels and over 10,000 movies.

However, what makes the Rs. 179 Airtel prepaid recharge plan different from the competition is the bundled Rs. 2 lakh term life insurance that comes from Bharti AXA Life. The insurance cover is provided to all customers recharging with the Rs. 179 prepaid plan who are between 18 to 54 years. It doesn’t require any additional paperwork or medical test and the policy or the Certificate of Insurance will be instantaneously delivered digitally, the operator said in a press statement. Customers can also ask for a physical copy of the insurance.

The insurance process will be accomplished digitally at any Airtel retail store or through the Airtel Thanks app. Moreover, the Rs. 179 prepaid plan is targeted at entry-level smartphone users and feature phone users in semi-urban and rural markets.

Back in May last year, Airtel launched the Rs. 129 and Rs. 249 prepaid plans with Rs. 4 lakh life insurance cover from Bharti AXA and HDFC Life. It expanded the trend by offering an identical life insurance coverage with the Rs. 599 prepaid plan in September last year. The operator, however, recently discarded the earlier plans and brought the Rs. 279 prepaid plan as the fresh option to offer bundle insurance cover.

The cabinet is likely to approve the bills Andhra Pradesh Decentralisation and Equal Development of All Regions Act 2020 and CRDA amendment Act 2020. Earlier, following the call given by Amaravati JAC for Chalo Assembly, the farmers and opposition parties in the likes of TDP, CPI, and Jana Sena have turned up in massive numbers. In the wake of the opposition rally and farmer’s agitations, chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has arrived the secretariat with tight security. The police have imposed section 144 and police act 30 in and around the secretariat and assembly premises.

On the other hand, the police have deployed huge forces, and house arrested the TDP leaders. At the same time, the agitating farmers were also taken into custody. While the CRDA amendment bill is to abolish the CRDA act 2014 introduced by then chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, however, the Government will bring a new Urban Development authority comprising Vijayawada, Guntur, Mangalagiri and Tenali and will be named as VGMTUDA. However, the Government is said to be transferring all the contracts, works and others from CRDA to VGMTUDA.

Simmons, Lewis help West Indies to draw series Against Ireland

0

Lendl Simmons carted 10 sixes and five fours on his way to jaw-dropping 91* off 40 balls as West Indies made mincemeat of Ireland’s above-average total of 138 in the series finale in St. Kitts. Having been stunned in the series opener – by the slightest of margins, West Indies’ hopes of going into the last game on level terms was scuppered by rains.

Kieron Pollard had bowled his heart out, producing his career-best spell (4 for 25), only for showers to kill the game right at the start of their chase. Ireland went into the final fixture with a series lead, and the opportunity to create history with a series win, but their flight of fancy was brought down crashing to earth via West Indies’ thorough all-round performance.

If the first three overs of the game was anything to go by, Ireland once again showed gumption to post a high, 200-plus total. They had 48 runs on the board by the end of the third, thanks largely to Kevin O’Brien who raced away to 35 of 15, which included a Sheldon Cottrell over riddled with five successive boundaries. But Ireland’s march towards maximizing the PowerPlay was cut short by the experience that Pollard and Dwayne Bravo brought to the West Indies side. They took out both openers – O’Brien and Paul Stirling – in the space of seven deliveries.

From 61 in 6 overs, captain Andrew Balbirnie set out to carry forward the consolidation job but was devoid of a stable batting partner at the other end. In less than five full overs since the PowerPlay, Ireland lost four more wickets – including that of Balbirnie – to put themselves en route to an underwhelming total. Pollard followed his 4 for 25 with another fine spell of bowling at the same venue, finishing with 3 for 17 while Bravo too accounted for three dismissals. The utter collapse in the middle-order – with five of the batsmen contributing single-digit scores – saw Ireland fold for 138 in the 20th over, giving West Indies a clear shot at series parity.

West Indies took it, and how. Simmons began the carnage against the medium pace of Barry McCarthy in the second over, hitting him for 15 runs and bettered that against Craig Young in the sixth, with 16 to the tally. Ireland fired blanks in their quest for early breakthroughs as West Indies waltzed to 57 for 0 in 6 overs. Simmons made up his mind to not offer any respite that generally accompanies the relaxation of the field restrictions, as he brought up a 28-ball half-century with a six.

There just was no restriction to Simmons’s six-binge. At the halfway stage, West Indies had already polished off 123 runs, with Simmons smashing 85 off it – which included nine sixes. Though Lewis was dismissed in the 11th over – giving Simi Singh and his teammates something to cheer about – Simmons took his sixes tally to double-digit and sealed the game in style.

Brief Scores: Ireland 138 in 19.1 overs (Kevin O’Brien 36, Andrew Balbirnie 28; Kieron Pollard 3-17, Dwayne Bravo 3-19) lost to West Indies 140/1 in 11 overs (Lendl Simmons 91*, Dwayne Bravo 46) by9 wickets

BCB to send security team ahead of Bangladesh tour of Pakistan

0

Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan said on Sunday that they are sending an advance security team to Pakistan while they will be accompanied by personnel from national security agencies during their upcoming three-match T20I tour.

According to BCB officials, a group of security teams will travel to Pakistan a day before the team is scheduled to fly while National Security Intelligence (NSI), regarded as the top-most security agency, will be also in Pakistan during the tour.

The BCB and PCB on January 14 reached a consensus to ensure Bangladesh’s upcoming tour of Pakistan would go ahead as planned though doubts were raised after the tourists decided not to send their team for more than seven days at a stretch due to security reasons, for the three-match T20I series along with the two Tests.

Subsequently, under the new agreement, Bangladesh will play the series comprising two Tests, three T20Is and one ODI in three phases to make sure they are staying not more than a week. The tour kicks off with the first installment comprising the three T20Is, scheduled to be played between January 24 and 27.

The Asian nation will return to Pakistan to play the first Test, starting on February 7 and return once again to play the lone ODI on April 3.

“Yes, our advanced security team is going before we travel to Pakistan,” Nazmul told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Sunday. “We will have security from NSI. They will go first while some of them will arrive later.

Nazmul said that he is totally convinced with the security plan provided by the PCB but added that they don’t want to leave any stone unturned as far as the players’ safety is concerned.

Bangladesh had a forgettable experience on their last New Zealand tour, which makes all the measures being undertaken by the BCB quite rational.

“I have seen the security plan of PCB. There is nothing more they could do. But there could be uncertainty at any time. But we will have to remember that this is not just a bilateral series, there are Test Championship matches ahead. This is sort of World Cup. After T20I and One-day, they have started Tests on home and away basis. So there is no option. As a full member of the ICC, we need to participate. There was pressure. I think after playing this T20I series, we will be able to realize what the situation is and if we have some problem, we will be able to discuss.”

India eye series win against Australia in the decider

0

It was a game of dissimilitude in Rajkot for India and Australia. Coming into the game on the back of a ten-wicket drubbing, India’s determination to remind the opposition of their might, especially in their own backyard, shone through as they amended all the wrongs of Mumbai. By the end of Australia’s 36-run loss – the first of their summer – two things were axiomatic: a solution to India’s three-opener conundrum presented itself, while Australia’s lack of a finisher was glaring.

Virat Kohli’s decision of accommodating KL Rahul after Shikhar Dhawan’s return from injury meant India was competing with three openers in their ranks. In Mumbai, Kohli demoted himself to No.4 to make provisions for Rahul at 3, which didn’t serve him too well.

In Rajkot, he returned to his regular slot to play sheet anchor to India’s innings with a stoic 78, as Rahul was pushed to No.5. While Kohli’s innings was instrumental for India to get to a strong total, it was Rahul’s blitzkrieg that took them to a winning one of 340. With a 47 in Mumbai and a 52-ball 80 in Rajkot, Rahul’s adaptability and versatility in milking the purple patch that he finds himself in has left India with the power of choice.

India being unable to get into Australia’s middle order in Mumbai inadvertently exposed a weakness for the visitors in Rajkot. Their over-reliance on the top order cost them in a steep chase. The middle and lower-middle order failed to pose any threat to India’s attack that had its tail up. The lack of explosiveness of a Glenn Maxwell kind, lower down the order also hurt the visitors.

The conspicuous positive, was, however, Marnus Labuschagne’s seamless transition from Test cricket to ODIs, who, with idol Steve Smith impressed with a 47-ball 46 in their 96-run stand to keep Australia in the chase. Labuschagne was initially slotted to come in at No.3, but David Warner’s early dismissal prompted Smith to assume the role of the anchor to steer the chase. It could pronounce a new middle order for Australia with Labuschagne making No.4 his own and Alex Carey being promoted to No.5. But that missing finisher is what Australia need if they are to relieve the top order of performance pressure.

Jasprit Bumrah’s return to form will also please India, who after an ordinary first game, returned 1 for 32 in 9.1 overs. Kuldeep Yadav, too, was among the wickets, derailing Australia’s chase with the key wicket of Smith, backed well by Mohammed Shami and Navdeep Saini who executed their yorkers to perfection in the death.

The defeat in Rajkot ended Australia’s ten-match winning streak in Asia, but coming to Bangalore, Australia can take heart from the fact of having won three of their four ODIs at the venue. With the hosts bouncing back to set up the series in prime fashion for the decider, they have all to play for in Bangalore with India’s supremacy up against Australia’s spunk.

Tamim Iqbal, Rubel Hossain return for Pakistan T20Is

0

Tamim Iqbal has returned to the Bangladesh T20I side for series against Pakistan, Bangladesh Cricket Board announced on Saturday (January 18). Hasan Mahmud, the 20-year-old pacer, has earned his maiden call-up with Rubel Hossain also making a comeback for the first leg of the three-part tour of Pakistan.

Tamim hasn’t played international cricket since last year’s World Cup. His poor run of scores in that tournament forced him to take a break from the game. He was supposed to return for the India tour in October but pulled out because of personal reasons. Tamim, who last played a T20I in December 2018, has recovered from a groin injury and was medically cleared to feature in the Pakistan series.

Rubel has had a long break from T20I cricket with his last international game in the format coming in August 2018 against West Indies in Florida.

Mahmud has played 13 T20 games and has 10 wickets at an average of 37.9 and an economy of over nine. However, he has been fairly successful in first-class cricket (24 wickets from nine games) and List A cricket (19 wickets from 15 matches).

The first T20I will be played on January 24 while the second and third games will be held on January 25 and 27 respectively. All three games will be in Lahore before the visitors return to Pakistan for the first Test of the two-match series from February 7.

Squad: Mahmudullah (c), Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Moammad Naim, Najmul Hossain, Litton Das, Mohammad Mithun, Afif Hossain, Mehidy Hasan, Aminul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Shafiul Islam, Al-Amin Hossain, Rubel Hossain, Hasan Mahmud

There can be no proof of religious persecution: Assam BJP leader on CAA

0

Assam minister and the BJP’s Himanta Biswa Sarma said those applying for citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) cannot prove if they face religious persecution on Friday. However, he added that the central government will work out a process to verify their claims. “There can be no proof of religious persecution. But they will need proof that they came before 2014. How can there be proof of religious persecution? Will any police station in Bangladesh give them a document that says they faced religious persecution? But the Indian government will have some in-house processes to check whether the place that they are coming from had any incident of atrocities against minorities,” the leader added.

The controversial Citizenship Amendment Law, which came into effect last week, promises citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh who came to India before December 31, 2014. Critics said that the law, which makes religion a test of Indian citizenship for the first time, goes against the principles of the constitution and can be used to target Muslims who cannot prove their ancestry.

Protests have also protested in north-eastern states, including Assam, against the law as indigenous communities fear the law could legalize lakhs of immigrants who have come in from Bangladesh over the decades, thereby disturbing the natural cultural fabric of the state’s local population. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP have maintained that the law is essential to help those who have faced religious persecution in the three countries. Himanta Biswa Sarma said proving religious persecution may prove challenging for the applicants and it was up to the Indian government to verify the claims.

Watch: Shikhar Dhawan Takes Over Chahal TV

0

Shikhar Dhawan played a starring role in India’s series-leveling 36-run win over Australia at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on Friday. Opening the batting with Rohit Sharma, the left-hander smashed 96 off just 90 balls to set the perfect platform for KL Rahul’s assault later in the innings that powered the hosts to 340 for six in the second ODI. Australia was bowled out for 304 in 49.1 overs as India drew level at 1-1 in the three-match series. Yuzvendra Chahal has been in and out of the playing XI in recent times but still has been a constant presence all thanks to his post-match interviews on Chahal TV. However, the leg-spinner was missing from action on Friday with Dhawan taking over his duties. Not only did the opener do a great job with his guest KL Rahul, he also came up with a hilarious reason for Chahal’s absence.

https://twitter.com/BCCI/status/1218392570931187713?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1218392570931187713&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsports.ndtv.com%2Findia-vs-australia-2019-20%2Fshikhar-dhawan-takes-over-chahal-tv-savagely-trolls-leg-spinner-watch-video-2165921

On a more serious note, Dhawan praised Rahul for his brilliant knock despite dropping down from one-down to No.5 and asked him about his thought process.

Rahul blasted 80 off just 52 balls, which included six fours and three sixes. Captain Virat Kohli too played a fine knock, scoring 78 off 76 balls as India posted an imposing total on board.

Steve Smith scored a brilliant 98 and got support from Marnus Labuschagne, who scored 46 off 47 balls, but Australia were always behind the eight ball in the run-chase and eventually fell well short.

Mohammed Shami took three wickets while Navdeep Saini, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets apiece. Jasprit Bumrah took one wicket but was the most economical bowler of the match, giving away just 32 runs off his 9.1 overs.

The third and final ODI of the series will be played at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday.

BTech student held for sharing morphed photos of women online

0

A BTech student was arrested on Friday by the Rachakonda Cybercrime police for sharing the morphed photos of a woman on social networking platforms. N Akshay (20), who was pursuing engineering in a college in Narapally had sent a friend request from a fake ID. When the woman accepted his request, the accused downloaded the photos of the woman. He then morphed the pictures with the nude photos and sent her.

The accused set one of the morphed pictures as display picture and posted the remaining on the fake account. The police said Akshay also made video calls to her and later deleted the fake account when she rejected his calls. A complaint was lodged by the victim’s mother in November 2019 with the Cybercrime police. She stated that an unidentified man had shared her daughter’s morphed pictures on the social networking site. The police who investigated the case caught hold of the accused on Friday at Lalaguda.

Labsuchagne ‘at home’ in Australia’s new-look middle-order

0

The Steve Smith – Marnus Labuschagne duet sounds just as dulcet in the yellow as it does in the whites. If ever there were apprehensions to how Labuschagne would adapt to the subtle beats of middle-order batting in ODI cricket, he brushed those fears away as coolly as he lofted Kuldeep Yadav over his head off just his sixth delivery. The 25-year-old more than looked his part in a 96-run stand with his idol – Smith – which kept Australia abreast in a steep chase of 341.

Australia eventually fell 36 short of the target, but Labuschagne in his 47-ball knock of 46 provided an early glimpse of the enterprising-but-not-reckless kind of batting Australia have wanted as a follow-up act to David Warner and Aaron Finch. Labuschagne’s ODI call-up, a just reward for a prolific run in red-ball cricket, has come at the expense of the swashbuckling Glenn Maxwell, whose inability to balance attack and defense has been a longstanding problem for Australia.

“I thought Marnus played well in his first bat in one-day International cricket,” validated Smith after the defeat.

Australia were accorded an early glimpse at what their ideal middle-order could look like when they pushed Alex Carey up to No.5. Carey didn’t particularly enjoy the best of nights and was dismissed for a 17-ball 18, but his promotion to five follows a very productive World Cup, where he was left to do most of the mopping job behind Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis. Carey batted at No.4 for South Australia in the domestic One Day Cup to start, averaging 46, and has also taken a middle-order role with the Adelaide Strikers to replicate his expected position with Australia in the shortest format.

“No reason why No. 3, 4, 5 can’t stay as is, I think,” said Smith, who himself missed out on a century and a chance to take the chase deep, departing in the same Kuldeep over as Carey.

WhatsApp Dark Theme Spotted in Latest Beta, Stickers Updated

0

WhatsApp has been working on Dark Theme integration for a while now, and its latest beta for Android users show a slight improvement in the ‘system event bubble’. This change was also spotted to be under development, and hasn’t been enabled in the latest beta for the users to see. Separately, sticker packs have reportedly received a server-side update from WhatsApp, and users should see a new ‘update’ button next to the packs in the Stickers section. Speaking more about Facebook pulling back on WhatsApp ads plan, features tracker WABetaInfo reports that since the 2.19.356 Android beta version, there is no code about status ads.

The instant messaging giant has released a new beta update for Android, bringing it to version 2.20.8, and this latest update has been scanned by features tracker WABetaInfo to fish out new up and coming features. The tracker notes that WhatsApp is continuing to work on the Dark Theme, improving the last details before the release. Also noticed was an improvement in the layout of the System Event bubble that shows up on the top of every new chat. Tap for more info.” This bubble uses a yellow color text when in Dark Theme, something that wasn’t the case before in the 2.19.311 Android beta update. Of course, this change was spotted to be under development, so you may not see it even if you update to the latest bets. WABetaInfo notes that it is still not known when Dark Theme will be officially released.

In a separate tweet, the tracker claims that sticker packs are getting a server-side update which presumably includes improvements, although exact details are unknown. To check for this update, head to WhatsApp > Chat > Stickers section > the ‘+’ icon. You will see a new Update option next to the few packs in your previously downloaded list. Not all packs are getting the update button, and only select ones see the change. WABetaInfo claims that the exact reasons for the update are unknown at the moment.

A recent report suggests that WhatsApp will focus on helping businesses connect with customers for now, and will backtrack on its plans to launch the status ads feature. The tracker claims that WhatsApp has stopped working on status ads since 2.19.356, and there has been no code about the feature since then. Although, WABetaInfo claims that the company has stalled plans momentarily, and WhatsApp revenue generation plans haven’t been completely shelved forever.

Rohit Sharma Surpasses Amla, Sachin To Make This World Record

0

Rohit Sharma on Friday became the fastest batsman to score 7,000 ODI runs as opener, leaving behind Hashim Amla and Sachin Tendulkar. Rohit achieved the feat during the second ODI against Australia at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot against Australia.

While Rohit took 137 innings to reach the milestone, Amla, who now stands at the second spot, had achieved the feat in 147 innings. Tendulkar had completed 7,000 ODI runs in 160 innings. Rohit also became the fourth Indian opener to complete 7,000 ODI runs. Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag are the three other batsmen to have reached this milestone.

The 32-year-old, who had failed to score much during India’s thrashing in Mumbai, looked to be in fine form in Rajkot before he was dismissed by Adam Zampa after scoring 42 off 44 deliveries.

The Mumbaikar missed out on completing another record as he fell four runs short of reaching 9,000 runs in ODIs. Even though Rohit started as a middle-order batsman in the Indian team, then skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni promoted him to the top during the 2013 Champions Trophy.

England Dominate in 1st Session on day 2 with Stokes Ton

0

The blueprint to pick wickets was laid out on the opening day itself, with two successes to boast for – a packed legside field in the inner ring waiting to pouch catches flicked off the middle and leg stump line. Faf du Plessis stuck to the same plan on Day 2 morning but Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada didn’t bowl with as much discipline; and the English batters – Ben Stokes and Ollie Pope – didn’t fall for it as easily. Instead, the batsmen, who had resumed the innings having already stitched a 76-run stand on Thursday, grew comfortable through the course of the first 45 minutes.

With the original plan not yielding results, du Plessis urged them to play the cut shot with a vacant backward point. Even that didn’t do them any good. And if anything, it leaked some runs. One of which helped Pope bring up his fifty. With Rabada, Nortje, and Philander failing to make inroads with the newish ball, it took almost an hour before Keshav Maharaj – South Africa’s most impressive bowler – was brought into the attack. He got the ball to turn sharply, but Stokes played him with as much ease.

The southpaw, who hogged the majority of the strike in the partnership on Friday, went on the attack soon after. In the 100th over of England’s innings, he swept and slog-swept the spinner for a boundary and a six. Soon, as Stokes kept marching on, South Africa’s captain ran out of plans, before the all-rounder eventually brought up his ninth Test century. It wasn’t the most fluent innings, but in conditions where run-making hasn’t been easy, it wasn’t surprising that it was his second slowest. En route to that landmark, he also became the seventh player to complete a Test double of 4000 runs and 100 wickets.

If at all South Africa came close to break the partnership, it was only a few overs before Lunch when Pope was adjudged leg-before off Dane Paterson, only to have the decision overturned with a review. He went to Lunch safely at 75, with the unbeaten 187-run stand for the fifth wicket-taking England to 335/4.

Brief Scores: England 335/4 (Ben Stokes 108*, Ollie Pope 75*; Kagiso Rabada 2-70) vs South Africa

Rabada out of Johannesburg Test for Root dismissal celebration

0

Kagiso Rabada has been banned for the last Test of South Africa’s series against England. The fast bowler was punished for what was deemed an overly aggressive celebration after he dismissed Joe Root on the first day of the third Test at St George’s Park on Thursday.

Rabada roared in triumph after he pegged back the England captain’s off stump. He did not attempt to confront the departing Root, but the pair were uncomfortably close to each other in the aftermath.

But Rabada had gone into the match with three active demerit points, and the addition of the fourth triggers his removal from the equation for the match at the Wanderers in Johannesburg, which starts next Friday.

Rabada was in similar trouble in March 2018, when he collided with Steve Smith in the throes of his reaction to trapping the Australian in front. One of South Africa’s most prominent senior counsels, Dali Mpofu, was enlisted to argue Rabada’s appeal, which was successful and saw his sentence reduced from three demerit points – which would have taken him to eight points and prompted a two-Test ban – to one. This time there will be no reprieve because level one offenses are not subject to appeals.

Rabada’s supporters will say he has been unfairly dealt with, but he would have escaped a ban if he did not have three points hanging over him from previous incidents in the past 24 months. In February 2018 he was punished for a send-off of Shikhar Dhawan, and in the same match as the Smith incident – that demerit point remains active – he was also nailed for sending David Warner on his way in an unseemly manner. All four of Rabada’s current demerit points have been earned at St George’s Park.

Rabada is the series’ leading wicket-taker with 14 strikes, and his absence at the Wanderers will significantly impact South Africa’s chances. He is also the only black African who has featured in the rubber so far. In terms of their selection policies, South Africa should include two black Africans among six players of color in every XI.

Jeff Bezos Says Amazon India Will Create 1 Million New Jobs by 2025

0

A day after Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal snubbed him during a public event, Amazon Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos on Friday announced that the e-commerce giant will create 1 million new jobs in India by 2025 through continued investments in technology, infrastructure, and its logistics network.

The new expected jobs are on top of the 700,000 jobs Amazon has already created in the country since 2013 — thus totaling 1.7 million Amazon direct and indirect jobs by 2025, the company said in a statement.

On Thursday, Goyal commented on Bezos announcement, saying Amazon is not doing India a favor by investing a billion dollars but also raised concerns if its losses were a result of predatory pricing and if Amazon and Flipkart were gaining entry into multi-brand retail by using loopholes.

Speaking at the Raisina Dialogues in Mumbai, Goyal tore into the MNC e-commerce players like Amazon and Flipkart, signaling a very strong government and policy intent to scrutinize their practices which traders and others have been protesting against.

More importantly, alluding to the $1 billion (roughly Rs. 7,094 crores) investment announced by Bezos in India, Goyal had a different take.

“(If) they have made a loss of a billion dollars than they jolly well have to finance the billion dollars.

On Wednesday, Bezos announced that the company plans to invest $1 billion (roughly Rs. 7,094 crores) to help bring 10 million traders and micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs) across India online, enabling $10 billion (roughly Rs. 70,940 crores) in cumulative exports by 2025 and supporting India’s economic diversification.

Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza cruised into the women’s doubles final of the Hobart International with her Ukrainian partner Nadiia Kichenok here on Friday. Sania and Kichenok sailed past the Slovenian-Czech pair of Tamara Zidansek and Marie Bouzkova 7-6 (3) 6-2 in the semifinal contest that lasted one hour and 24 minutes. The fifth-seeded Indo-Ukrainian combination will lock horns with second seeds Shuai Peng and Shuai Zhang of China.

The Chinese pair got a walkover after Belgium’s Kirsten Flipkens and Alison Van Uytvanck conceded the other semifinal match because of injury. While Sania and Kichenok had to fight hard in the opening set, the second set was a cakewalk for the combination. The first set was a tough contest between the two pairs, bringing the tie-breaker into the equation after it was level at 6-6.

In the tie-breaker, Sania and Kichenok upped their game by a few notches to outsmart their opponents and take the lead. The second set was a no-contest as Saina and Kichenok broke their opponents thrice — in the second, sixth and eighth game — to easily pocket the set and a place in the summit clash. Saina and Kichenok got 11 break chances out of which they converted four, while their opponents utilized two out of the five break chances that came their way.
